Food Network Star -- Season 9 Thread -- Premieres June 2, 2013

http://www.foodnetwork.com/the-next-...tar/index.html

In a summer of heated competition, 12 Star hopefuls will face off in the ultimate interview for the chance to score their dream TV job.
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,124,0" width="400" height="323"><param name="movie" value="http://common.scrippsnetworks.com/common/snap/snap-3.2.19-embed.swf?channelurl=http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/channel/xml/0,,116013-VIDEO,00.xml&channel=116013"/><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"/><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"/><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF"/><embed src="http://common.scrippsnetworks.com/common/snap/snap-3.2.19-embed.swf?channelurl=http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/channel/xml/0,,116013-VIDEO,00.xml&channel=116013" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" width="400" height="323"/></object>

They've already started airing some pre-season specials, which have been snagged by my Comcast DVR.

Thought it was odd they brought on Chris Hodgson to be a contestant after being a finalist on the Food Truck show. Seems like they could have just given him a show or special since a lot of the audience already knows him.

10 bucks says the guy in the middle, with the beard and the patterned shirt, will be the first one to go home.

I'll go with the douchebag in the hat as the first one to go.

Giada and Alton Brown need to hacked to death by a meat cleaver. Bobby Flay? Hit by a speeding car.

As usual Food Network picks out a whacko oddball group of misfits to compete on their show.

I would love to see Survivor and Food Network Star trade casts so we could see how all these chef wannabes do with those kind of challenges...

Ok, so we know Hodgson was on GAFTR. And the Vietnamese guy was a contestant on Iron Chef and beat Flay. I know I've seen the super model chef somewhere before (can't remember where) and I'd swear the one who's 2nd on the right side (the one constantly talking about a vintage POV) was on Resturant: Impossible and needed Robert to come in to save the place. Had bought with her father.

This is the 7th season now and the contestants are still not prepared and shocked by the 30 second pitch video that they have to do?

The guy with the hat is apparently from Hell's Kitchen also. Danushka's even been part of a season of the Bachelor.

Every cast member it seems has probably done another reality show at some point. And I did get confirmation about the lady I was wondering was the one from Restaurant Impossible.

Danushka is annoying......sort of a Paris Hilton type. Too early for me to root for anyone at this time.

I liked him the best after the first episode.

I wanted to like Danushka just because of physical attractiveness, but she was really lame and annoying.

Lovely was really annoying too. I agree with the description of the cast as misfits and oddballs, and everyone seems to be a token something.

Poon-Kinney was the 2nd season of Rest. Impossible
Lovely was Season 6 of HK and was out in the 4th episode

I didn't see Viet beat Bobby.

I recognized him from the food truck show, Danushka (don't know where I've seen her before, though) and Stacey (she was on an episode of Restaurant: Impossible)

Edit: Danuska was on Chopped. That's where I saw her.

Re: Food Network Star -- Season 9 Thread -- Premieres June 2, 2013

I've only seen a few episodes of Chopped but one if the ones I remember is the episode with Danuschka. She was SO incredibly annoying, and the first one to go if I recall. She was a "personal chef" who could barely cook worth a damn. I knew Viet from that episode of Iron Chef, but the fact that nearly all of these people have had exposure at some level (the one YouTube cooking girl) is kind of lame. It sounds like they all have hadsome industry connection to be on the show.

Knowing this now, and since I didn't care for any of the contestants (what's with the douchebag with the hat, or even the "underground chef" ), I may just pass this season.

Re: Food Network Star -- Season 9 Thread -- Premieres June 2, 2013

If they wanted to complete the trifecta they should have had Amy Bouzaglo from Amy's Baking Company as one of the participants. The Nielson numbers would have been thru the roof...

Oh God, Danushka was so annoying. That video was awful and she was so off putting. She deserved to go home more over Daniela.

I really liked Chad Rosenthal, the Jewish BBQ guy. He seems to have a good on camera presence and spoke really well. His food seems good too.

I also thought Nikki was good, but I kind of agreed with Susie that she could come across as too cutesy

BTW, apparently Justin Warner who won last season never actually got a show. He hosted a 1 hour special on Food Network called "Rebel Eats" that aired back in March.

I watched the special. But that's all he's done? I wondered why I never saw any commercials for his series. Wow, did the pilot suck that bad they scrapped it. Then again, I haven't seen any new Aarti Parti's in a while either.

Fieri and Jeff Morrow are the only ones who they like there I guess.

Timing wouldn't have been right for this show, but you have to figure there are negotiations going on to have her on Chopped or something. 10 minutes would be about my limit for watching her anyway.

I watched that and had no idea it wasn't a series.

Re: Food Network Star -- Season 9 Thread -- Premieres June 2, 2013

I've only seen the last 3 seasons prior to last season, but Melissa D'Arabian, Aarti and even Jeff the sandwich King got shows, so that seems wrong that Justin got screwed out of a show.
