The One and Only KITCHEN NIGHTMARES / HELL'S KITCHEN Thread

Thought I'd make a one stop shopping thread for these two Gordon Ramsay shows, since sometimes threads pop up for them and sometimes not.

KITCHEN NIGHTMARES comes back Friday, January 29th on FOX! That's this Friday!

Chef Ramsay visits Hot Potato Cafe, a family run restaurant in Philadelphia, PA in the Season Premiere airing Friday, January 29th.

Judging from that photo it would appear that the producers are going out of their way to find the biggest dumps for Gordon this season.

Kitchen Nightmares is completely formulaic, but i still watch every episode. For some strange reason, it hasn't made me want to swear off restaurants forever, which is surprising.

Another note to fans, it looks like it's airing two episodes a week for a while at least, also showing on Tuesdays.

Re: The One and Only KITCHEN NIGHTMARES / HELL'S KITCHEN Thread

I've done season threads for the last 3 seasons of Hell's Kitchen, very unlikely this one will get bumped once summer comes around.

As for Kitchen Nightmares, blah, I initially enjoyed watching it, but it got way to formulaic/scripted for me. And once they had Gordon become a family/marriage counselor in certain episodes, that's when I threw in the towel.

Is he not doing the British K.N. anymore? Those were actually worth watching, without all of the bullshit Fox hijinks and hyperbole. Guess he's going where the money is.

That's actually how I feel about Hell's Kitchen these days. At least in KN I can enjoy the before and after aspect if I ignore the drama/conflict nonsense. HK has become, for me, easily the most artificial of the competition-style reality shows.

I honestly think I would enjoy Hell's Kitchen more if they flipped the show's premise on its end. Drop the 'executive chef at blah blah blah' prize, drop the facade that they are trying to cast 'experienced chefs', and embrace the fact that people watch the show to watch Gordon scream at crappy kitchen workers by openly casting people with little-to-no cooking experience? Then the focus could be on Gordon trying to shape these cooking newbies into okay chefs, and whoever makes the most progress gets $100,000 or something. This show is never going to be about 'Top Chef'-level skill, so why not just admit it and focus on what the show is really about?

I like 'Kitchen Nightmares' but I watch it one of the BBC channels.

I thought the US one had failed and gone the way of all flesh.

I sort of feel the same way at the end of a season. But by the next year, I'm always amped again for the new season. KN is definitely better if you haven't seen the superior UK version, but it's still watchable. Just letting Ramsay do the voiceovers would be an instant improvement though (for both shows IMO).

lol, they're fucking with Dollhouse even more by essentially having the finale at 8pm instead of 9

At this point I'm just thankful to have a proper finale and all the episodes aired.

As far as Kitchen Nightmares goes, there's no question it's the same formula every episode but it's still thoroughly entertaining. Same goes for Hells Kitchen. I don't watch it for anything else other than Gordon Ramsay and as long as he's yelling at someone, I'm pretty satisfied.

Worst thing by far about KN is the FOX editing. It's obvious that things are shot at different time periods, and the manufactured drama is horrible.

A much more interesting show would be one that focuses in on Gordon's downfall over the past year or so and how he's had to close restaurants after the combination of boneheaded business moves and a collapsing economy.l

I'll watch, bc my gf and I love Ramsay, but this show is a total joke. I much prefer the UK version, where he actually tries to do something contructive each episode, and they always do a follow-up.

They've been airing the US version a lot on the BBC channels in the US

It is a tad funnier than on Fox since they still bleep out "Fuck" but "Shit" gets through just fine.

Of all of Gordon's shows, the only one that seems real is The F Word. Catch it on BBC America or find an Internet source. Currently airing season 5.

There already were two series similar to that: Boiling Point (1998) and Beyond Boiling Point (2000). Neither series was exactly 100% flattering to him, but regardless they actually rocketed Ramsay up the pop culture ladder.

It is pretty laughable how they try to fool us. But Ramsay always entertains me, so I can look past the reality show lies.

Re: The One and Only KITCHEN NIGHTMARES / HELL'S KITCHEN Thread

The british kitchen knightmares is heaps better because there isn't over the top editing, no ridiculous expensive makeovers etc Its more organic and real

Still the US version is fun to watch. At least there was no one unlikeable in this first episode

Re: The One and Only KITCHEN NIGHTMARES / HELL'S KITCHEN Thread

No doubt the British version is better, but this new episode seemed to turn down the over-the-top voice-overs and editing. Good sign.
