Worst game this generation: Hail to the King baby
So, after forcing myself to finish Turning Point, I was thinking it was the worst game I have played this generation. I know threads like this always end up with most disappointing games, with people throwing in a game like Mass Effect 3 or something, but I was wondering what everyone thought the actual worst game was this gen? Bonus points if you actually finished it.
My vote is easily Turning Point...
The fact that I finished it still amazes me...

Re: Worst game this generation: Hail to the King baby
personally, i hated Eternal Sonata. My best friend and I used to love playing rpgs (Final fantasy's on SNES anyone?) so we have been looking for a co op jrpg type game for a while. after seeing a lot of great reviews for ES, we decided to pick it up. a few playing sessions later (maybe 10 hours) we really couldn't even stand to look at it. we realized it was a chore, and video games shouldn't be a chore. MGS4 was the same way for me.
worst game of the generation? no, neither of them were, but it shows the subjectivity of this. I have heard, though haven't tried, that "Kane and Lynch 2" was just terrible. also, i think excluding Wii shovelware from this will increase standards some

The Big Bumpin game that Burger King did. Pocketbike Racer & Sneak King held some enjoyment, but Big Bumpin was completely awful and pretty much broken in my opinion. I still cringe when I think about it.

I don't think you can count Totemball since it was free. Just an awful, awful tech demo.
Speaking of free XBLA disasters, who can forget Prius?
As far as paid XBLA games, I'd select either of the two Dodgeball games.

X-Men: The Official Game & Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer both jump immediately to mind. I'd be tempted to lump Game of Thrones in there too, but I only made it 45 minutes in and it might've not been that bad for people used to turn-based RPGs.
As for worst game that I actually finished, easily Heavy Rain. Just a pompous turd that was so intent on being interactive cinema that it overlooked being a game. This could've been forgivable if it didn't have a story/script that would've been lucky to be a low-budget, crappy tv movie if it'd been filmed instead of put forth in a game.

You sir... are out of your cotton picking freaking mind! '
Heavy Rain was good.
Maybe you just waited too long to play it.

Yeah I dug Heavy Rain as well, great atmosphere, shame there was literally only 1 puzzle in the entire game though. The rest were just, QTE.
Does Limbo of the Lost count?

I would play it again, just don't think of it as an action game... lot of scripted sequences if I remember correctly.
Yeah, lots of QTEs.

To each his own but I actually consider Heavy Rain one of the best (if not top ten) of this generation. My vote would goto Assassins Creed III....but that's just cause i'm still sore over paying full price on that one.

If we were including computer games, I'm sure the newest Sim City would be on some lists.
Personally, I remember being really really disappointed in Crackdown 2; it may have just been because I liked Crackdown 1 a lot and the sequel felt like a glorified expansion pack with less content. Also, I avoided most Kinect games, but I was warned against stuff like that Star Wars Kinect and Fable Kinect even at the dirt cheap black friday deals the Microsoft store had.
Oh, how could I forget Steel Battalion Heavy Armor? I change my vote, that's the winner. Utterly unplayable. Shoehorn Kinect-only controls into a game that's already very difficult to play and you have a game that, even with a perfect Kinect setup (and really, who has that?), feels more like work than fun.

Nope, I was excited for it and had it pretty close to when it came out, if not day one. I detailed my disappointment/criticisms at length in the official thread here (post #608 if you want to look it up). At the time, I admired the ambition and idea of the game, but thought it was a pretty poor execution. As the generation's progressed, it's left a worse and worse taste in my mouth. I can think of games that I started and abandoned that I'd call worse, but nothing that I played all the way through.

So it is the worst game that you completed.... but not the worst game of this generation?

Yeah, I was differentiating between games I played vs games I finished. For games I played, I'm having a hard time topping the two Marvel games I mentioned. For ones I finished, Heavy Rain.

This is the reason I only buy top rated games. Anything less than an 8.0 or 4 out of 5 stars or what ever the rating system you use is just not worth my time. Saves money and grief.

Yeah, it's hard for me since I don't play a lot of games. Maybe 10 max in a year. Much less in the past couple of years.
The last one I couldn't finish because I didn't like is Assassin's Creed 3, but don't think it should be included in this list.
For me it probably would be one of the Burger King games.
