Opinions of new Sony DVD players?

Does anyone have opinions of the newly introduced Sony DVD players, DVP-NS300 and DVP-NS400? I think they replace the 360 and 560 models.
One of the complaints I've read about the older models was the noisy drive. I was checking out the 300 and 400 at the store but it was hard to tell because of the general store noise.
Any info would be much appreciated.

I own the Sony 560D Slim player and the noise is not heard loud, nor is a distraction. That is bullcrap.
I were you..I pick the progressive player from Sony even if you don't own a Progressive TV..you can still use the Interlace mode I assume. It's the silver DVDNS 700.

My 560D just died on me today, right in the middle of a movie. 4 months old. pretty pissed about it. It gives me the "no disc" (dvd middle-finger) no matter what disc I put in. I even tried to auto-calibrate the laser; no-go. Dammit. I really liked the sony player, but having to take it in to get serviced is just plain annoying.

I went back to BB and exchanged it for another 560, new in box. I hooked it up, same problem. I boxed it once again and headed back for BB. The ambient noise in the store wasn't too bad and so I ended up test driving a bunch of DVD players with the help of a friendly BB guy. Even the display model made the noise, though you had to be within a foot or so of it to hear the squeal because of surrounding noise.
I ended up getting a Toshiba. I was pretty disappointed, because I loved the look, features, etc, of the 560, especially the size - that sucker is small.
I find myself a bit more sensitive to extremely high pitched noises, like high RPM harddrives at work, etc. My wife couldn't hear the noise I was complaining out. It's not an extremely loud squeal, but it was loud enough to hear across the room and at a high enough pitch for me to decide that I just could not live with it.
The 560 is definately a noise-troubled unit. If you don't hear it or can otherwise live with it, consider yourself lucky.

I purchased a S330 when they came out a year ago and the disc noise caused my to return it. My really old Sony S300 makes no noise at all. Not sure if the new NS series is that noisy. The demo unit at my Best Buy was not plugged in.

I just got the new 700 and I will be doing some more tests later.
My initial reaction is that this is a great player. Gladiator and Titan A.E. both looked awesome.
I am using a 36 XBR 400 as my TV.

Sony DVP-NS700P
I also just purchased the 700 and have it hooked up to my HDTV for the progressive scan. Just received it yesterday and watched Vertical Limit (looked incredible!!). I'll be checking out Cast Away later this evening.

I just bought the Sony 700
I just picked up the 700 last night ($349). My first DVD player. I haven't done anything fun with home theater since buying the Sony MDP605 (?) years and years ago for a fortune. I haven't had a chance to try out the 700 yet, probably this weekend, but I love the look. My biggest problem now is that my pro-logic receiver isn't equiped to play DTS or 5.1 and will need to be upgraded. Can anyone recommend a good receiver for around $500-600 that will make a nice companion to the DVD player? and yes, I know I didn't need the onboard decoders that came with the Sony since I'll be buying a receiver that can do the same thing, but I wanted Progressive Scan and the price was pretty good. I've heard the Outlaw 1050 is a good receiver - if you can ever get one that works.
I'd love to hear everyone's suggestions on a receiver with DTS and 5.1 and also a good Progressive Scan capable TV to round out the package. It would get me pointed in the right direction.
I'm new to this forum (new to DVD's), but this looks like a great board. THANKS

Anyway, not that I'll be very helpful, but I just bought the NS300 as a Father's Day present for my father-in-law. I'll be hooking it up this weekend for him, since he has no idea how to do anything technical. I'll let you know how it goes.
And by the way, I've got the Sony 530D, and it is very noisy. Fortunately, behind the glass door I don't hear it, especially when the surround sound is cranked up..

Noise level on the Sony 700
I haven't had time to play a DVD yet (I will on Saturday) but I have been playing music CD's and have not heard a peep out of the Sony 700. Smooth, solid and silent. So far its been fabulous, but playing CD's isn't really why I bought it.
I'll drop in on monday and give a full report on DVD play. I'll keep an eye out for the Chroma effect.

You can get comparably good deals on the others at sears if you do your homework...
