Universal Four Feature Film Collections
Noticed these on Amazon last night. Most seem to be coming out Oct. 9. Listings say each is 4 discs, so presumably Universal's following Warner's lead in using these as cheap ways to unload a lot of leftover stock, rather than squeezing the contents onto two discs as with past four-film sets. I suppose if anyone's looking to regain some shelf space, there might be something of value here:
Flash Gordon/Last Starfighter/Battlestar Galactica/Dune
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008R65XN8/
Rooster Cogburn/The War Wagon/The Spoilers (1942)/Shepherd of the Hills
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008R65XLU/
Casino / Traffic / Miami Vice / Eastern Promises
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008R65XP6/
Coal Miner's Daughter / Smokey and the Bandit / The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas / Fried Green Tomatoes
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008R65XOM/
Dawn of the Dead / George A. Romero's Land of the Dead / Halloween II / The People Under the Stairs
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008R65XVK/
Cry_Wolf / The Strangers / The Last House on the Left / The Return
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008R65Y0A/
Definitely, Maybe / Because I Said So / Love Actually / Notting Hill
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008R65Y3C/
Atonement / Pride & Prejudice / Jane Eyre / Elizabeth
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008R65Y5U/
Liar Liar / Bruce Almighty / Happy Gilmore / Billy Madison
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008R65XUQ/
King Kong / The Mummy (1999) / The Scorpion King / Van Helsing
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008R65XRO/
Noticed some double features and triple features being released the same day as well, although I suspect even some of these will end up in four-film collections in the long run:
The Fast and the Furious/2 Fast 2 Furious
Tokyo Drift/Fast & Furious
Casino/Carlito's Way
Death Race/Death Race 2
Great Outdoors/Uncle Buck
40 Year Old Virgin/Knocked Up/Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Cry Baby/Public Enemies/Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas
Beethoven 1/2/3
Meet The Parents/Meet the Fockers/Little Fockers
Also some Blu-ray Triple Features that look a lot like the recent bundles from Warner:
Doom/Scorpion King/Rundown

Last House on the Left/Strangers/Perfect Getaway
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008R65XXS/

Re: Universal Four Feature Film Collections
Hello, really long time lurker, now a new member.
For anyone that may know: did Universal do "flippers" for this new John Wayne title from this batch or did they go dual layer-single sided ? These titles are certainly short enough to go DL-SS.
As many of you here, I'm no fan of Double Sided DVD's and am hoping for the later. Also, hoping they used the anamorphic transfer for Rooster Cogburn.
I've not found the title on DVD Empire where you can usually find a rear cover scan so, if anyone who has bought it or seen it in the store and could provide additional info, it would certainly be much appreciated !
Thanks !

Re: Universal Four Feature Film Collections
Having picked up the Flash Gordon/Starfighter/BGS/Dune set I can say that Flash is 2.35:1 anamorphic, Starfighter (25th anniversary edition) is 2.35:1 anamorphic, BSG is 1.85:1 widescreen and Dune is 2.35:1 widescreen, so sayith the disks, haven't watched them, the only set that looked interesting (looking for a movie from my childhood that I really can't remember.. might be a movie, might be a show, might even be a dream -shrug-)
