Any 2.35 movies cut down to 1.78?
Just curious, are there any movies filmed at a 2.35 aspect ratio that were released on anamorphic widescreen DVD (or Blu Ray) and had their sides cut off so that they would fit the 16:9 aspect ratio without any black bars on top and bottom?

the Recruit i know is one. (that was shot Super 35 so in reality there is more info on the top and bottom of the screen and slight side cropping)

Lord of War was, and then quietly reissued in proper 2.35:1.
The Recruit along with Traitor were reframings as dictated by the directors.
Also, the first "double release" of both versions of Apocalypse Now were reframed to 2.00:1 after the cinematographer whined about his "vision"

The standalone release of "Grindhouse: Planet Terror" is framed at 16:9, whereas the theatrical presentation and double-feature blu-ray is at 2.35:1. (Though I believe this was shot in super-35 and had information added to the top and bottom to fill out the 16:9 image.)

I believe that all home video editions of Apocalype Now have been in modified aspect ratio (either pan and scan for VHS or that Univisium bullshit for the LDs and DVDs) with the exception of the blu-ray, which is the only home video release in OAR.

The Blu-Ray of Austin Powers is the theatrical ratio, but the first DVD and laserdisc were about 2:1 "as specified by the filmmakers" or something like that.
