Re: DC Animated Movie Slate for 2012
So far as I know, the powers that be are still convinced no one will ever buy any DC Universe movie built around a female character in the entire history of ever because, you know, Wonder Woman didn't meet their sales expectations. Clearly, that means there will never be a market for a Batgirl movie. How else could a reasonable studio person possibly interpret that?
*le sigh* It's a pipe dream and I know it.

I should really pick the Wonder Woman disc up as I've heard it's one of the better titles.

Yes, but two points. One: A single WW movie should not be viewed as the be-all, end-all microcosm of the potential for all stories built around a female character. That's ridiculous.
The other point I'd make is that by being part of the Bat-family, Batgirl has a marketing value that Wonder Woman doesn't have.
They could do a collection of shorter-running features featuring the bat family, but otherwise I don't think other side-bat characters like Nightwing or Robin would get their own movie either. I mean we haven't even had a Flash one yet.
I'm very aware that The Flash has yet to have a movie; my friend's daughter is a big Flash fan and I almost feel bad each time I hear about a new DCU movie about Batman.

...and what does Conroy have to do with Superman? You had said, "Finally, another movie with Kevin Conroy" and I assumed that had to do with the discussions with the latest DCU animated movie (i.e. Superman Unbound). Is there another one announced with Conroy voicing Batman again?

So I was looking last night on Amazon for the Batman titles on Blu-ray I don't have and a result came up for Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman for March 12th. I found it a bit odd they'd put that one out on Blu-ray before Mask of the Phantasm but I ordered a copy. I know it's not a new film but figured some of you might be interested. It's a movie that's spawned off of Batman: The Animated Series/The New Batman Adventures for those not aware.
Also a bit off topic but the Batman films on Blu-ray are out of print now and go for pretty steep prices. I picked up Batman Forever for under $20 but Batman & Robin goes for pretty high which I find odd.

The one thing I never quite understood was why they had David Ogden Stiers and Hector Elizondo perform as The Penguin and Bane instead of series regulars Paul Williams and Henry Silva. Throughout December and the first few days of January, I re-watched B:TAS in its entirety including the movies. Coming to Mystery of the Batwoman at the end was nice, but jarring to hear different voices.

Warner Bros. has a pre-order price right now for $9.95 with free shipping. It's a decent coda to Batman: The Animated Series. It also includes a silent short film, Chase Me.

I've been going through Batman: The Animated Series myself actually. I'm on Disc Three of Volume Two. Such a great show, I really wish Warner would ask Bruce Timm and Paul Dini and company to get together and make one last film entry to cap off Batman: The Animated Series. Not that we haven't gotten some great Batman movies out of their animated line but The Animated Series is still miles better if you ask me.

The Flashpoint Paradox looks pretty good. That's almost a story that seems like it could have been split into two parts like The Dark Knight Returns was. I still don't understand why Warner is so intent on capping these films at 75 minutes. Also need to pick up the Lego Batman: The Movie- Super Heroes Unite.

Budget. Animation is expensive and every second requires more money. In live action a movie can be 10 mintues longer because Robert Downey Jr. Was adlibbing. WB clearly has a set amount they'll spend on these and doesn't want to go over it.

Yeah I suppose that's true. Still it would be nice if they made more exceptions. The Dark Knight Returns really benefited from being done in two parts and clearly couldn't have worked as well if it would have been one movie crammed into 75 minutes. I think that's also why Death of Superman wasn't one of their better ones.

If they can split it over two parts, I don't see why they can't release Crisis On Infinite Earths as a movie.

Re: DC Animated Movie Slate for 2012
They probably could, but I have to wonder if an event that we designed to clean up confusing continuity would work as a stand alone movie?

That was the desired outcome, but Crisis could simply be reframed as a universal threat. The real problem is that the storyline presupposes the viewer/reader knows the various versions of the heroes, which would need introductions of some kind.
If it weren't so violent, I imagine they would have already made Identity Crisis into a movie.

I was surprised at how violent The Flashpoint Paradox turned out to be but the rape, even implied rape, would probably net Identity Crisis an R rating. Also working against it are its ties to the Bronze Age/Silver Age Justice League, which WB and DC seem to want to bury at this point.
