The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread

From blu-ray.com...I've been wondering about this one!

"Olive Films have revealed that they will release on Blu-ray Cy Endfield's Sands of the Kalahari (1965), starring Stuart Whitman (The Comancheros, The Mark), Stanley Baker (Hell Drivers, Zulu), and Susannah York (Tom Jones, They Shoot Horses, Don't They?). The independent distributors also have two other very exciting Blu-ray releases coming up soon: Andrew Marton's Crack in the World (1965) and Burt Kennedy's Hannie Caulder (1971). Street date for Sands of the Kalahari is August 2."

Re: Sands of the Kalahari from Olive Films 8/2/2011

here we go...

A small plane crashes in the sweltering deserts of South Africa hundreds of miles from civilization. As parallels are drawn between the group of humans and a nearby pack of savage baboons, one of the men's survivalist nature gets the better of him, as he decides his chances of survival would be better if the others were eliminated one-by-one
I can't find a trailer at all...I'd love to see that.

Good movie; looking forward to it. There's also a regular DVD version. For those who haven't seen it, it's similar to Flight of the Phoenix.

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread

Paramount is celebrating their centennial in 2012. They will be releasing blu rays of a lot of catalog titles. On Home Theater Forum, they've already confirmed that a blu of Chinatown is in the works. Samson and Deliah will also be making it's debut on dvd/blu. I'm sure they'll start releasing more details in the next couple of weeks.

Holy shit...Jeff Speakman! I LOVEEEEED his movies. Not sure why, but I had a VHS copy of his first four movies (Pefect Weapon, Street Knight, Expert and something else) (EP 8 hour tape FTW) that I carried around forever. Actually I probably still have the tape in a bin somewhere. But Perfect Weapon was pretty awesome and I will be buying that one for sure.

Is Buccaneer any good? Just curious.

Edit: However, they must be insane if they think I will pay $26.99 for Perfect Weapon. Especially when it is almost guaranteed to be bare bones and probably 2.0 DTS HD audio. I'd do $15, but $27...heck no.

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread

Independent distributors Olive Films have revealed that they are planning to release on Blu-ray the following three films: Byron Haskin's Silver City, (1951) and Denver and Rio Grande (1952), and Nicholas Ray's Run for Cover (1955).

Exact technical specs, region coding status and supplemental features for these releases have not been revealed yet, but the preliminary release date set by the distributors is May 22.

re: The Olive Films Blu-ray Thread

^Nice! I just watched Run for Cover Sunday via Netflix Streaming, a nice minor Ray effort. His outsider theme feels a little forced in the Western context it is placed in, but the film at least does a good job of playing against genre convention and audience expectations. I'm if it becomes available for around $12 at some point.
