R.I.P. George Lindsey (Goober on The Andy Griffith Show)
Fox News is reporting that the man who played the character Goober on The Andy Griffith Show, Mayberry RFD, and Hee Haw, George Lindsey, has passed away. He was 83 years old. George passed away after a brief illness. Funeral arrangements are still pending.
George joined the cast of the Andy Griffith Show after Jim Nabors’ character “Gomer Pyle” left the program. George continued playing the character until the early 1990′s when Hee Haw ended its run in syndication.
George had multiple other roles on TV and in movies, including as a voice actor for Disney.
He will definitely be missed.

Sad news. Looks like there's only 3 regulars left from the show now. Andy, Opie and Gomer. Andy Griffith may outlive them them all.

I didn't know Goober was still alive. I thought he had passed away a long time ago. Same with Jim Nabors, but that more or less is because of what Mr. Burns said in one episode of The Simpsons.
RIP

His very first episode of the Andy Griffith Show in post two is one of my all time favorites. Judy, Judy, Judy! RIP Goober.

I just learned that George Lindsey was actually a friend of a friend. One of my friends posted something on Facebook to the effect of "RIP, George Lindsey, but be honest -- if I had told you last week that he had died back in the 90s, you would have believed me," and one of my other friends replied "Actually, I was friends with George, so I would have known you were lying."
Anyway, rest in peace, George, and thanks for all the years of entertainment.
