Movies you don't like, but most do?
What are some movies that are generally praised universally, that you for one reason or another don't care for?
The two movies that come to mind for me, both involve the Deppsterr.
What's Eating Gilbert Grape - I don't know if it's the pacing, the seemingly understated role of everyone compared to Dicaprio, or what.Didnn't like it for the same reasons I didn't care for The Straight Story, though I liked it a bit more. I can handle understated, and I can handle slow paced, just can't handle them together.
Edward Scissorhands - Didn't feel storytelling or character development that strong.Seemingly only Winona Ryder's character developed at all.The third act was meaningless and the fight with Jim a cop out ending.

Won't say I hate these, but they are generally praised and raved about by everyone and I just don't see it:
Citizen Kane
Bridesmaids
Get Him To The Greek
The Matrix
The Killing

2001 Space Odyssey
THX 1138
Clockwork Orange
Rocky Horror Picture Show
I also don't like 90% of movies that have ever been nominated for an Academy Award.

Last Tango in Paris
Gone With the Wind
Casablanca
M*A*S*H
I'll also add Fantasia, even though I own. I really, really tried to enjoy it.

That sounds about right, all these movies that get such fan fair I find completely boring, even films like Lost In Translation, Crash, No Country For Old Men (what a pile of garage), either completely boring or just horrible.

Good Will Hunting
Crash (The Paul Haggis film, not the David Cronenberg or Charles Band ones)
Traffic (The Steven Soderbergh one, not the original mini-series or the Jacques Tati one)

Casablanca
2001: A Space Odyssey
Planet of the Apes
The Women
Going My Way
...and every Chaplin movie I've ever seen. I figure this one is all my fault, somehow.

The Shining
The Exorcist
Most Wes Anderson movies (I always find his art direction much more interesting and clever than the scripts or characters)

Avatar was a piece of crap.
I really enjoyed Inception on my first viewing, but after another viewing I've decided I'll probably never watch it again. Too much dialogue to explain itself, it was painful sitting thru those scenes again.

BRIDESMAIDS is a recent one, but I'm also not a fan of:
INCEPTION
THE ENGLISH PATIENT
GLADIATOR
HEAT
AMERICAN BEAUTY
THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON

Pulp Fiction was another, did not care for it and his story telling is so odd, jumps back and forth way too much, easy to understand, just annoying at times.

Eraserhead (this is more for the artsy crowd since I don't think most mainstream movie-watchers have seen this, but I found it to be pretentious and unbearable)
The Transporter
Step Brothers
Flags of Our Fathers
The Italian Job (remake)
My Dinner with Andre (another pretentious, boring piece of crap; tried to sit through it twice to see if I missed something the first time, couldn't finish it either time)
The Exterminating Angel
Young Frankenstein
The Straight Story
Back to School
Billy Madison
There aren't any "classics" that I think I hated enough to put on here, but the above movies are ones that I haven't heard anyone else say they disliked.

Road, you may indeed be the only person I've ever heard of that doesn't like Young Frankenstein. Part of me is aghast that anyone could not like what is possibly Mel Brooks's best film; another part of me is proud of you for standing your ground in disliking it.

Re: Movies you don't like, but most do?
This may get me some heat but 12 Angry men is another one I didn't care as much as most people.Just felt too many people, too few had personalities.Few of the personal aspects we did get, didn't really add much to the movie. I didn't "hate" it, I just didn't like it as much as most people.
