The Third Annual May Make-Your-Own Challenge
May 1-31, 2012

This thread is for lists only.
For discussion, go to the May 2012 Make-Your-Own Challenge Discussion Thread.

It's your Challenge, so you make your own rules, but there are a few guidelines which everyone should follow.

Challenge Guidelines:

The Challenge runs from May 1 through May 31.

Sure, you can run your May MYOC in September if you want, but the list thread will only be stickied during May, so if you want anyone else to see what you're up to, please try to keep it within those dates.

Please state your challenge theme and your challenge goal and rules (if any) at the top of your list(s) in the list thread so others can tell what you're up to.

Please don't duplicate an existing "Official" DVD Talk Challenge.

This guideline is mainly here so we don't subtract from participation in any of the other Challenges, and to encourage participants to focus on genres not already covered by a Challenge, but since everyone's "need to watch" list is different, and you're able to watch stuff that qualifies for one or more of the other Challenges during every other Challenge, you're free to narrow the focus of one of the broader "Official" Challenges.

For example; Say you only collect horror, then you could make your Challenge to watch just horror films, or just horror TV shows, or just zombie films, etc. Or if you have lots of unwatched Sci-Fi, then your MYOC could be just watch Sci-Fi movies, or watch Star Trek shows, or watch TOS, etc.

Check out the previous threads for ideas:

2011 discussion thread.
2011 list thread.

Free stuff!

Thanks, GoldenWheels!

On June 1st, three winners will be randomly chosen from the Challenge participants (using Random.org). In keeping with the spirit of the Make-Your-Own Challenge, those three winners will get to pick their own prizes from HamiltonBook.com.

Prize selection will be limited to items priced $20 or less.

For the purpose of this drawing, a participant is anyone not called Dimension X who has claimed a spot in the list thread, has chosen a Challenge theme, and has listed at least one item in his/her list.

If for some reason you do not wish to participate in the random drawing (e.g. Your mother told you to never accept free stuff from strangers; the warden doesn't allow you to receive packages; your spouse, or your roommate, or the voices in your head told you that you already have enough DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs, and/or books and will not allow you to acquire any more), please opt out by letting me know, either by PM, or in the discussion thread, or in your list post in this thread.

Winners will be given one week to choose their prizes. Any unclaimed prize opportunities will be re-gifted on June 8.

I will announce the prizes chosen so we can all be envious and/or amused by the selections made.

MYOC III: Commentary Track Challenge

Goals: Listen to at least 50 new-to-me commentaries while re-watching the films.

My 2010 MYOC
My 2011 MYOC

5/1/12

1) Blood Shack (1971) w/commentary by Ray Dennis Steckler - Not too bad, but I wish he'd had more stories, even if they were about other films, to fill the (many) gaps where he just described the onscreen action.

5/2/12

2) The Chooper (1971) w/commentary by Joe Bob Briggs
3) Tucker & Dale vs Evil (2010) w/commentary by Eli Craig, Tyler Labine, and Alan Tudyk

5/3/12

4) The Family Jewels (1965) w/commentary by Jerry Lewis and Steve Lawrence - This was bad. There was about 10-15 mins of actual commentary. The rest was Steve Lawrence (Steve Lawrence??), and occasionally Jerry, laughing here and there. It's a shame this one didn't have a moderator/interviewer (maybe that's what Steve Lawrence was supposed to do).
-) The Patsy (1964) w/select scene commentary by Jerry Lewis and Steve Lawrence - This was better. On this disc they let you play just the parts with actual commentary. It was only about 10 mins total, so I'm not going to number this one.

5/4/12

5) Machete Maidens Unleashed! (2010) w/commentary by Mark Hartley, Jock Healy, Angelo Sartore, and Melissa Hines
6) Satan's Sadists (1969) w/commentary by Sam Sherman

5/5/12

7) The Losers (1970) w/commentary by William Smith and Paul Koslo moderated by Todd Wieneke

5/6/12

8) Dr. No (1962) w/commentary by Terence Young, Ursula Andress, et al. - narration by John Cork

5/8/12

9) Schlock! The Secret History of American Movies (2000) w/commentary by Ray Greene, Wade Major, et al.

5/14/12

10) Coffy (1973) w/commentary by Jack Hill

5/16/12

11) A Good Old Fashioned Orgy (2011) w/commentary by Alex Gregory, Peter Huyck, and Jason Sudeikis

12) Goldfinger (1964) w/commentary by Guy Hamilton, Sean Connery, Lois Maxwell, Desmond Llewelyn, et al. - narrated by John Cork

5/17/12

13) Goldfinger (1964) w/commentary by John Barry, George Leech, Cliff Culley, et al. - narrated by John Cork - Too many gaps in this one.

5/19/12

14) The Burning (1980) w/commentary by Tony Maylam and Alan Jones
15) The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!? (1963) w/commentary by Ray Dennis Steckler - Once again. Steckler spent a lot of time just describing the onscreen action, but with this film that actually helped.
16) The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!? (1963) w/commentary by Joe Bob Briggs

5/22/12

17) I Spit on Your Grave (Day of the Woman) (1978) w/commentary by Meir Zarchi

5/23/12

18) I Spit on Your Grave (Day of the Woman) (1978) w/commentary by Joe Bob Briggs

5/25/12

19) From Russia with Love (1963) w/commentary by Terence Young, John Barry, et al. - narrated by John Cork

5/26/12

20) Thunderball (1965) w/commentary by Terence Young, John Barry, et al. - narrated by John Cork
21) Thunderball (1965) w/commentary by Peter Hunt, John Hopkins, et al. - narrated by John Cork (The Peter Hunt parts were actually scene specific commentary.)

5/28/12

22) You Only Live Twice (1967) w/commentary by Lewis Gilbert, John Barry, Nancy Sinatra, Lois Maxwell, Desmond Llewelyn, et al. - narrated by John Cork
23) On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) w/commentary by Peter Hunt, Lois Maxwell, John Barry, et al. - narrated by John Cork

5/31/12

24) Diamonds Are Forever (1971) w/commentary by Guy Hamilton, John Barry, Jill St. John, Jimmy Dean, et al. - narrated by David Naylor
25) The Hollywood Strangler Meets the Skid Row Slasher (1980) w/commentary by Ray Dennis Steckler
26) The Hollywood Strangler Meets the Skid Row Slasher (1980) w/commentary by Joe Bob Briggs

Re: The Third Annual May Make-Your-Own Challenge - May 1-31, 2012 **List Thread**

I'm going to do an Iberian and Latin American (including Caribbean) challenge. Now with Asia too!
My rules will be:

1. A film that is from any of these countries and in its native language
2. films that are from out of the country but that take place entirely in one of these countries i.e. Turistas, Man On Fire, Girl from Rio, Westerns based on the Mexican Revolution or before the Mexican-American War (so old Mexican territory)
3. Film from one of these countries but not on the countries native languages due to dubbing or intentionally done in another language but with at least 70% crew from native contry. i.e. Kovak Box
4. TV shows are allowed if completely from one of these countries and in native language i.e. Epitafios
5. Concerts are allowed if longer that 60 minutes and by musician from one of these countries or foreign musicians in concert in one of these countries.
6. Territories are considered autonomous so a movie from France or the UK would not count unless one of the rules above applies
7. documentaries about a one of these countries or person/s from these countries allowed with no location restrictions.
<hr size=1 width=80%>

Re: The Third Annual May Make-Your-Own Challenge - May 1-31, 2012 **List Thread**

I'm doing musicals, including recordings of live productions.

May 1.
1. Chicago (2002). Blu-Ray Joyously cynical
Best song: "Cell Block Tango"
2. Hair (1979). Blu-Ray For my money, the best movie musical of the 1970s
Best Song: "Easy To Be Hard"

May 2.
3. Shock Treatment (1981). DVD Trying to manufacture a cult film does not guarantee that you can make a cult film. Still, I love Shock Treatment, and the score is a lovely snapshot of early 80s pop.
Best Song: "Lullaby"
4. Dreamgirls (2006). DVD Berry Gordy should sue for defamation
Best Song: "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going"
5. Hairspray (2007). DVD I absolutely love this film. Although Harvey Fierstein owns the role of Edna and ought to have reprised his stage role in the film, Travolta's performance works for me.
Best Song: "Miss Baltimore Crabs"

May 3.
6. True Stories (1986). DVD Radical
Best Song: Pops Staples singing "Papa Legba"

May 4.
7. A Chorus Line (1985). DVD I like the performances (mostly), but the film is a misfire.
Best Song: "What I Did For Love"
8. Pink Floyd's The Wall (1982). DVD Roger Waters HATES this movie and Alan Parker, but maybe that's because he revealed more of Waters's unpleasant personality than Waters wanted. It's a masterful film of one of rock's greatest concept albums
Best Song: "Comfortably Numb"

May 5.
9. Phantom of the Paradise (1974). DVD A blend of glam rock, The Phantom of the Opera, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Faust. One of my favorites that I watch at least once a year
Best Song: "Old Souls"

May 6.
10. Company (2007). Netflix A recording of the John Doyle production of Stephen Sondheim's musical about growing up, marriage, and despair, centering on protagonist Bobby as he turns 35 among his happily and unhappily married friends. I don't like Doyle's device of having the cast double as the orchestra because it breaks the illusion of reality on the stage, but Raul Esparza shines as Bobby.
Best Song: "Being Alive"

May 7.
11. The Gospel at Colonus (1985). DVD. Recorded for a PBS broadcast, the Gospel at Colonus is an absolutely inspired (in every sense) retelling of the second play in Aeschylus's Oedipus trilogy, mixing Greek tragedy with African-American gospel. The cast includes the incandescent Jevetta Steele and renowned gospel groups The Mighty Clouds of Joy and The Blind Boys of Alabama, featuring the amazing Clarence Fountain as Oedipus. Just makes me want to shout!
Best Song: Tie between "How Shall I see You Through My Tears" and "Stop, Do Not Go On"

12. Fados (2007). DVD. I only recently discovered the Portuguese folk music called "fado," a mournful ballad form that is intensely soulful and beautiful, which led me to buy this DVD. Carlos Saura knows how to film musical performances unlike any other director save Jonathan Demme.
Best Song: "Transparente Moįamibique"

13. Tango (1998). DVD Another brilliant Carlos Saura film, this time highlighting the art of the tango.
Best Scene: Tango and percussion

May 8
14. Godspell (1973). DVD It's easy to take shots at this incredibly dated hippie musical based on the Gospel of Matthew, but Stephen Schwartz's score hasn't aged a day.
Best Song: "By My Side"

15. Pippin (1981). DVD This road company production was recorded in Canada directly to video for some long-dead cable channel, so the picture quality, frankly, blows. Still, the show includes many of the original background dancers and Benjamin Rayson as Charlemagne and Ben Vereen as the First Player from the original 1972 cast, and improves on the Broadway production by adding Chita Rivera as Fastrada, Pippin's evil stepmother, and Martha Raye as Bertha, Pippin's horny grandmother.
Best Song: "Morning Glow"

May 9
16. Zero Patience (1993). DVD.An angry film made in the era when ACT-UP was protesting the inactivity of government towards handling the AIDS crisis. Low budget but terrific.
Best Song: "When You Pop a Boner in the Shower" (NSFW)

May 10
17. Sunday in the Park With George (1986). DVD. Another recording of a Broadway production made for PBS broadcast. I've always thought the first act could stand on its own as pure Broadway bliss, because for me the second acts drags, but still it's Sondheim.
Best Song: Finishing the Hat
18. Into The Woods (1990). DVD. More than a retelling of fairy tales, Into The Woods reveals the disappointments in marriage and parent-child relationships and the necessity for forgiveness and acceptance to make love work.
Best Song: "Moments in the Woods"

May 11
19. The T.A.M.I. Show (1990). DVD.. Teen Age Music International? WTF does that mean? Who cares, because this concert film aimed at the mid-60s drive-in teen market is terrific, featuring some obscure acts that disappeared (Billy Kramer and the Dakotas) and some acts just beginning their ascents into immortality (James Brown, The Rolling Stones). James Brown steals this film.
Best Song: Please, Please, Please

20. The Blues Brothers (1979). DVD. It's amazing how good this movie is and how the performances still stand up despite the chaotic production history.
Best Song: "Think"

May 12
21. The Book of Mormon (2011). Digital. I "acquired" this recording of the musical online since tickets are so freaking scarce. We WILL see this sometime in 2012 or maybe 2013.
Best Song: "Joseph Smith American Moses"

22. Carrie (1988). Digital. I DL'd this video of the last performance of the original 1988 production years ago from a Broadway fan site. The score is incredibly uneven, like when the showstopper "And Eve Was Weak" segues into an insipid ballad "Don't Waste the Moon." The climax of the musical, "The Destruction" is a confusing mess; I can see why the original production failed. But there is so much that works that I can see it being a Broadway success, given some revisions to the score and the blocking.
Best Song: "And Eve Was Weak"

May 18
23. Rock Around the Clock (1956). TV. AIP made several films in the early days of rock and roll to exploit the nascent musical form. Not an interesting film, but some good music. Oddly, the group this film was meant to spotlight, Bill Haley and the comets, is the least entertaining.
Best Song: "The Great Pretender"

24. Jamboree (1957). TV. Another drive-in movie with a thin story meant to frame the musical acts the kids of the 50s wanted to see.
Best Song: Carl Perkins, "Glad All Over"

May 21
25. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Once More With Feeling" (2001). DVD. With this and Dr. Horrible, Joss Whedon needs to follow the South Park boys and break into Broadway.
Best Song: "What You Feel"

26. Xena: Warrior Princess, "The Bitter Suite" (1998). DVD. Lucy Lawless can do no wrong.
Best Song: "The Way Out"

May 22
27. 200 Motels (1971). Netflix It's a pity Frank Zappa recorded this on video because there is no way to improve the picture quality. It's stuck forever in 1970s low-res. I love Zappa's music, although it's not for everyone.
Best Song:Theme from 200 Motels

May 23.
28. Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog (2008). DVD. Geek paradise.
Best Song: My Eyes

29. Help (1965). DVD. A superior follow-up to "A Hard Day's Night" that showcases the Beatles at their height, with nice support from Eleanor Bron and Leo McKern.
Best Song: I Need You

May 24
30. The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994). DVD. Drag queen fabulosity from the Land Down Under.
Best Song: Finally

May 25
31. Lou Reed's Berlin (2008). DVD. Lou Reed. like Bob Dylan, is one of those tonedeaf singer/songwriters who are more capable as the latter than the former. Still, this film of his 2008 concert at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn, directed by Julian Schnabel, is a thing of rare beauty.
Best Song: Sad Song

May 27
32. Janis (1974). Netflix A compilation of Janis performing her hits with the three bands she worked with in her 4-year career.
Best Song: Ball and Chain

May 29
33. This time For Keeps (1947) DVD. I cracked open my Esther Willliams box and picked this at random. Very mediocre.
Best Song: None

Mr. Cellophane's Film Adaptations & Film Writers Challenge

Re: The Third Annual May Make-Your-Own Challenge - May 1-31, 2012 **List Thread**

My Second Annual Comic Book Movie Challenge
Rules: Movie or TV show must be based on a published comic book.
One movie counts for: 1 entry
2 hour long (broadcast time) TV shows count for 1 entry
4 half hour (broadcast time) TV shows count for 1 entry
* = First time viewing
Unless otherwise noted, all entries are from my personal DVD/Blu Ray collection

May 1 - The Justice League - animated!
1. Justice League: Doom
* (2012) The Justice League takes on the reunited Legion of Doom.
2. Wonder Woman (2009) Tells the origin of Wonder Woman. Seen with commentary by the director, writer and producer.
3. The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians (1985) The seeds of doom / The ghost ship - The Bizaro Super Powers team / The Darkseid deception / The fear
4. Justice League: The New Frontier (2008) Seen with commentary by creator Darwin Cooke. Still the best of all the DC Animated movies.

May 2
5. Superman / Batman: Apocalypse
(2010) A good chunk of the beginning is essentialy Supergirl's origin filled with cliché-ridden scenes of how "she doesn't fit in" and how she "just wants to be normal" which seem to be the norm among whiny superheroes of this generation. The second half picks up as Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman with the aid of Big Barda travel to Apokalips to free Supergirl from Darkseid who wants her as her new captain of the guard. Decent, but mot amongst the best of the DC Animated movies.

May 3
6. Superman / Batman: Public Enemies
(2009) Lex Luthor becomes president and outlaws all superheroes, except those that become his stooges like Captain Atom, Major Force, Black Lightning and Power Girl. Superman and Batman are having none of it and chose to remain independent. Meanwhile a stray Kryptonite meteorite threatens the Earth. One of the better DC Animated movies.
7. The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians (1985) The wild cards / Brainchild - The case of the stolen powers / Escape from Space City / The death of Superman

May 4
8. Thor
(2011) Pretty damn good adaptation of the comic book which thankfully didn't have to suffer through an origin story to get the ball rolling. My one complaint is that the movie spends too much time with a powerless Thor during the middle of the movie. More than any other of the Marvel films this one ties into The Avengers' movie the most directly. By the way, I saw The Avengers on April 27 - one week ahead of American audiences, so it will not go on this list until I see it again.

May 5
9. Green Lantern: Emerald Knights
(2011) Seen with commentary by writer Geoff Johns and DC publisher Dan DiDio. A series of tales regarding various Green Lantern Corps members all tied together with a wraparound story. The animation on this one is very good and really captures the epic space feel of the Green Lantern stories.

May 6
10. Batman Year One
* (2011) Tells the beginnings of Batman as a crime fighter and his first encounters with then lieutenant James Gordon.

May 7
11. X-Men
* Animated series (1992) Night of the Sentinels parts 1 and 2 / Enter Magneto / Deadly reunions

May 8
12. X-Men
* Animated series (1992) Captive hearts / Cold vengance / Slave Island / The unstoppable Juggernaut

May 9
13. Peanuts 1960's Collection
A Charlie Brown Christmas / Charlie Brown's All-Stars / It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown / You're in love Charlie Brown

May 10
14. Captain America
(2011) One of the best super hero movies in recent years.

May 11 Nothing
May 12
15. The Avengers
(2012) Seen in movie theater. Lives up to the hype. Really loved how they handled Banner / The Hulk in this one.

May 13
16. Iron Man: Extremis
(2010) Motion comic of the graphic novel. A very good story and the animation here is really astounding.

May 14
17. Peanuts 1960's/1970's Collection
He's your dog Charlie Brown / It was a short summer Charlie Brown / Play it again Charlie Brown / You're not elected Charlie Brown

May 15
18. Peanuts 1970's Collection
There's no time for love Charlie Brown / A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving / It's a mystery Charlie Brown / It's the Easter Beagle Charlie Brown

May 16
19. Iron Man 2
(2010) Seen with commentary by director John Favreau.

May 17-18 Nothing
May 19
20. Green Lantern
(2011) I liked this one better after seeing the second time around but I still think it needed a better villain. The CGI Parallax and the total loser Hector Hammond just didn't do it for me.
21. Captain America (1979) Made for TV movie which sets the action in the present (of 1979) times. Reb Brown stars as the son of a scientist who was the original Captain America and because he shares his father's genes he's able to take the super soldier serum without it killing him. During the movie he dons a star-spangled outfit but not the one of the comics, but a variation. The comic book version, albeit with a helmet instead of a mask, appears until the end of the movie. The gorgeous Heather Menzies (of the TV series Logan's Run) provides a love interest for Cap.

May 20
22. Captain America II: Death Too Soon
(1979) Second made for TV movie but with a lot more Captain America action and this time in a more comic book faithful costume. There's also a lot of stunt riding in Cap's custom rocket-powered motorcycle. Reb Brown returns as the Captain and he certainly looks the part. Sadly Heather Menzies is replaced by Connie Selleca who is beautiful but still I prefer Heather. Christopher Lee plays the villain, but he's given very little to do.
23. The Incredible Hulk, S2 (1978) Alice in disco land / Killer instinct
24. The Incredible Hulk, S2 (1978) Stop the presses / Escape from Los Santos

May 21
25. The Incredible Hulk
, S2 (1979) Wildfire / A solitary place

May 22
26. The Incredible Hulk
, S2 (1979) Like a brother / Haunted
27. The Incredible Hulk, S2 (1979) Mystery man parts 1 & 2

May 23
28. The Incredible Hulk
, S2 (1979) The disciple / No escape

May 24-25 Nothing

May 26
29. The Incredible Hulk
, S2 (1979) Kindred spirits / The confession
30. Thor: Tales of Asgard* (2011) Animated feature telling a story from when Thor and Loki were young upstarts.

May 27
31. The Incredible Hulk
, S2 (1979) The quiet room / Vendetta road
32. V For Vendetta: Special features (2005)
33. Wonder Woman, S2 (1977) The return of Wonder Woman Double length episode that starts off Season 2.

May 28
34. Wonder Woman
, S2 (1977) Anschluss '77 / The man who could move the world

May 29
35. Wonder Woman
, S2 (1977) The Bermuda Triangle crisis / Knockout

May 30
36. Wonder Woman
, S2 (1977) The Pied Piper / The queen and the thief

May 31
37. Swamp Thing
(1981) Still holds up after all this time, rubber suit and all.
38. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) Seen with commentary by director Tim Story where he explains why he didn't show Galactus. The explanation: They were saving it for Silver Surfer's own movie, which of course never happened.

Sabrina, the Teenage Witch Challenge

My goal is to survive the month with my sanity intact

Rules: Complete two full seasons of the show (47 episodes; Seasons 3 & 4), plus watch random movies and TV shows that include the stars, guest stars, and anyone associated with the program. Every Melissa Joan Hart movie is required. Well, whatever I can get from Netflix, anyway.

Sabrina television episodes are in red
Movie titles are in bold

May 1
1. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Season Opener (S03/Ep01)
"That's it - No more buying sushi at the gas station."
2. Boy Was My Face Red (S03/Ep02)
"But if I don't worry about what other people think, what will they say?"
3. Suspicious Minds (S03/Ep03)
"This ain't no charity ward, baby. The fog machine? The voice-over guy? They all cost money!"
4. The Pom-Pom Incident (S03/Ep04)
"Does he look old enough to have dental records?"
5. Pancake Madness (S03/Ep05)
"Mannix, you've broken every rule in the book. You can't eat pancakes during a high-speed chase!"

May 2
6. Good Will Haunting (S03/Ep06)
"I don't believe this. Clap on!"
7. You Bet Your Family (S03/Ep07)
"People fawning all over you is very overrated. I don't need that kind of attention... as I pointed out on my website."
8. And the Sabrina Goes To... (S03/Ep08)
"In honor of Sabrina Spellman? And I didn't even have to die!"
9. Nobody Nose Libby Like Sabrina Knows Libby (S03/Ep09)
"Miss Chessler, are you mocking the noble institution of Homecoming?"
10. Sabrina and the Beast (S03/Ep10)
"You've been really supportive of me during my transformation to hideous man-beast."

May 3
11. Rent Control (2003)
An f'ed up variation on Weekend at Bernies, starring Melissa Joan Hart. Holly, straight from Iowa, and her boyfriend have big dreams of NYC. They are staying with Holly's Aunt Agatha, who has a rent controlled apartment there. Which is all well and good until Agatha kicks the bucket. Wacky mayhem ensues as they try to get rid of the body, and hide the fact that she's no longer with us. The superintendent (Don Novello) falls in love with Agatha. Uh, the dead one.
Of note: Wholesome MJH shows more skin in this film than her co-star, Carmen Electra. That is, if you're into pasty side-boob action.

12. The Specials (2000)
The Specials are a second-rate, no-account bunch of layabouts, ranking 6th or 7th in terms of great superhero troupes. Ted (The Strobe) decides to disband The Specials after a disastrous toy launch party, and discovering his wife Emily (Ms. Indestructible) screwing Tony (The Weevil) in the parking lot. If you're expecting superhero action here, you won't find it. The film is more about the band of misfits' everyday lives, which is actually quite interesting. By the time the special effects kick in, the movie ends.
Melissa Joan Hart plays Sunlight Grrrll, who offers The Specials' Deadly Girl a spot in the Femme Five. She's onscreen for about a minute.

May 4
13. Christmas Amnesia (S03/Ep11) Happy Bobunk!
"She's talking crazy. Merry this. Happy that. If I were you, I'd check her urine."
14. Whose So-Called Life Is It Anyway? (S03/Ep12)
"I'm well-off! Well-off I tell you!"
15. What Price Harvey? (S03/Ep13)
"Curse my sarcastic nature!"
16. Mrs. Kraft (S03/Ep14)
"I will live through this. I will live through this. It's not working!"
17. Sabrina and the Pirates (S03/Ep15)
"A tassel? Don't toy with me you saucy minx!"

May 5
18. Sabrina, the Matchmaker (S03/Ep16)
"No, there is no way that Smokey and the Bandit is on the 100 Best Movies List!"
19. Salem, the Boy (S03/Ep17)
"I think it's Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder?"
20. Sabrina, the Teenage Writer (S03/Ep18)
"C? But that's impossible! I typed it on a manual typewriter. The same kind William Faulkner used when he wasn't passed out on the verandah."
21. The Big Sleep (S03/Ep19)
"Well, I have two words for Mr. Tobias: Water balloons, aimed at his house, on the hour, every hour. I realize that's more than two words."
22. Sabrina's Pen Pal (S03/Ep20)
"We'll get to you later, Poindexter!"

May 6
23. Sabrina's Real World (S03/Ep21)
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was brave and it was exciting. This whole day stinks!"
24. The Long and Winding Short Cut (S03/Ep22)
"Look, I didn't take it from little old ladies in chicken suits, so I'm not going to take it from you."
25. Sabrina the Sandman (S03/Ep23)
"It's such a gasser to be named a member of the Rat Pack, baby. Now that it's official, how do we ditch Lawford?"
26. Silent Movie (S03/Ep24)
"Harvey loves me? Harvey Kinkle loves me? It sounds better without the Kinkle, doesn't it?"
27. The Good, The Bad, and the Luau (S03/Ep25)
"Gummo was my father's name."

May 7
28. No Place Like Home (S04/Ep01)
"You self-absorbed cat! I know that's redundant."
29. Dream a Little Dreama Me (S04/Ep02)
"I don't care what you do at your old school. We do not celebrate Firecracker Tuesday!"
30. Jealousy (S04/Ep03)
"If I sometimes seem irritable, it's because I have inoperable hemorrhoids."
31. Little Orphan Hilda (S04/Ep04)
"The humiliation is only eclipsed by the chafing."
32. Spoiled Rotten (S04/Ep05)
"I always thought the end of the world would involve more locusts."

May 8
33. My Fake Fiancé (2009)
Jennifer (Melissa Joan Hart) meets Vince (Joey Lawrence) at a wedding. They have an immediate disliking for each other. Jennifer has all of her belongings stolen, and Vince has a gambling debt due to The Monkey (Steve Schirripa). They decide to arrange a fake wedding, as "business partners", to cash in on all of the gifts. They then part ways and never see each other again. Actually, I think you can see where this one is going. My Fake Fiancé was a made-for-tv movie on ABC Family, so I guess I should have known what I was getting into.

May 9
34. The Phantom Menace (S04/Ep06)
"You wouldn't believe how many kids came dressed as Mr. Whipple this year."
35. Prelude to a Kiss (S04/Ep07)
"I think Dickens would have us laugh in the face of death. Anyone with me?!"

May 10
36. Aging Not So Gracefully (S04/Ep08)
"Fine. I'll try it your way. But Van Gogh got the babes, right?"
37. Love Means Having to Say You're Sorry (S04/Ep09)
"Are you responsible for the Rebel Without a Clue?" (stolen from both Paul Westerberg and Tom Petty)
38. Ice Station Sabrina (S04/Ep10)
"Oh why didn't I eat more Nutrageous bars when I had the chance?"
39. Salem and Juliette (S04/Ep11)
"You should know that I plan to play the rah-dio very loud."
40. Sabrina Nipping at Your Nose (S04/Ep12)
"I didn't have it good like those orphans. How I envied them."

May 11
41. Sabrina, the Teenage Witch (1996)
I don't know what to think of this one, to be honest. I'm not exactly in their demographic. This movie preceded the TV series, and comes off as more of a light teen drama. An altogether different tone. There are major character differences, as well; Salem has a funny (not ha-ha) accent, and Hilda, Zelda, and Harvey are all played by different actors than their television counterparts. Sabrina is, of course, Melissa Joan Hart. One actress, Michelle Beaudoin, who plays Marnie, returned for the first season of the show as Sabrina's friend, Jenny.

May 12
42. Now You See Her, Now You Don't (S04/Ep13)
"I thought I heard buzzing earlier, but I attributed it to my tinnitus."
43. Super Hero (S04/Ep14)
"Are you on the rainbow bridge being greeted by old family members and pets?"

May 13

May 18
52. Jesus, Mary and Joey (2006)
Joey runs into fellow former student Mary at church one morning. Of course, the Bible says that nothing in our lives is a coincidence. Aaaaaggghhh!! I am in Melissa Joan Hart Hell! This Act of God is presented in a scrunched-up full screen format. MJH sticks to her less-than-one-minute onscreen time clause, as stated in her contract.

May 21
53. Everybody Loves Raymond - Odd Man Out (S06/Ep03) Fred Stoller-guest star
"Sure, now. But he's going to find it's a quick trip to Nagville."

May 24
62. Drive Me Crazy (1999)
Popular prep Nicole (Melissa Joan Hart) and rebellious teen Chase (some guy) need to get their respective beaus back, so they arrange a fake relationship to make them jealous. Oh dear. Haven't I been down this road already? MJH, WTF??

May 27
63. MST3K - Mitchell (S05/Ep12) Frank Conniff-producer, writer, actor
"Hot merging action!"

May 28
64. Nine Dead (2009)
Nine strangers (or are they?) are locked in a room, and theatened to be killed one-by-one if they can't come up with a reason why they are all there. This is R-Rated, brunette-haired, swearing, vengeful, blood-covered Melissa Joan Hart. I'm a sucker for people-trapped-in-confined-spaces movies, and this is a gripping example... albiet a bit Saw-esque.

May 29

"Beaver doesn't have a car."
67. Happy Days - Richie's Cup Runneth Over (S01/Ep03) Anson Williams-director, actor/Henry Winkler-director
"I wonder what a girl like that was doing on the ten of diamonds?"

May 30
68. Happy Days - Guess Who's Coming to Visit (S01/Ep04) Anson Williams-director, actor/Henry Winkler-director
"Aaaaaaaaaayyyy!"
69. Happy Days - Hardware Jungle (S01/Ep05) Anson Williams-director, actor/Henry Winkler-director
"Aaaaaaaaaayyyy!"
70. Happy Days - The Deadly Dares (S01/Ep06) Anson Williams-director, actor/Henry Winkler-director

Stuff I'll Probably Sell After the Challenge Challenge

# - title - comments - % chance of selling

1 - Far Cry - Pretty bad film, as I expected, but I may keep it. I'm sort of a video game nerd, this DVD was only $1, and not worth trying to sell or give away. - 10%

2 - Blood & Chocolate - Not as bad as the box led me to believe, and I'm a sucker for werewolf stories. I'm sucking at this Challenge. - 5%

3 - Captain America - Cheating here, as this was a Redbox rental. But technically I am getting rid of it. Liked the film, and will someday add the 3D BD to my collection. - 100% *

4 - Sabrina (1954) - Sort of cheating again, as I accidentally bought two copies of this DVD and this extra has been in my "to sell" pile for years. Lovely film, but I may actually prefer the remake iirc. - 100%

5 - Iron Man - Have at least two extra copies of this film due to exclusive OCD. Watched this DVD out of my "to sell" pile the morning before I saw The Avengers. Love both films. - 100%

6 - Scrubs pilot episode - Like the series, but not enough to buy all the season sets anytime soon, so I'm selling my S1 and S2 sets. I may buy the complete series set someday. - 100%

7 - Scrubs S1E2 - Didn't discover this series for several seasons, looking forward to someday seeing them all. - 100%

8 - 21 Jump Street (2012) - Once again, I'm skirting my own rules. I should have just called this my "Stuff I'm Not Keeping Forever Challenge". Found this laying around work on DVD. Will discard this horribly illegal thing after watching it to find evidence of the violating party. - 100%

9 - You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown - Another of the many DVDs I've bought twice accidentally. - 100%

10 - Supernatural S2E1 - Recently bought the BDs so selling off these DVD sets. - 100%

Final thoughts - While I watched about as much content as I planned, I didn't fare too well on my goals. Both items I watched that we're in my "questionable to sell" pile ended up being probable keepers for me, so I switched gears and only watched items in my "almost definitely sell" pile.

Re: The Third Annual May Make-Your-Own Challenge - May 1-31, 2012 **List Thread**

Movie Title + Commentator(s) : My remarks

1st:
1. Zodiac (2007) + David Fincher: Is Blue Screen & Green Screen the same thing? (He only referred to it as blue) Whatever the color, there really was more of it put in the movie than one could notice. Also, since Fincher's quite infamous for lots of takes and reshoots, he points out the scenes that would require between 20 and 50 takes. Never knew about his upbringing in the Bay Area either.
----------------------------
2nd:
2. Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) + Danny Elfman: Since it's an isolated Music track, Elfman's comments only appear occasionally. Interesting to hear about him being self-taught and a non-composer. It shouldn't have been a surprise to hear him say that Nino Rota was a big influence on scoring this film. It all makes sense now!
3. Automaton Transfusion (2006) + Steven C. Miller, William Clevinger and Mark Thalman: Shocking to hear that this was only made on a $30,000 budget (Even for an Indie-Horror, this still looks epic at times) Ended up liking the movie a little bit more on a 2nd viewing as well!
4. On Dangerous Ground (1952) + Glenn Erickson: Erickson has already set the stage on how authors/scholars should give a perfect commentary. He gives us heavy information about the film's source material and it's troubled storyline-structure in the editing stages. If that weren't enough, he deeply analyzes nearly every single scene and also provides career timelines for almost the entire cast & crew. Wow!
----------------------------
3rd:
5. The Patriot (2000) + Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin: Devlin seems to do the most talking. Most of the track's subject is dominated by historical detail---Which I didn't mind at all.
----------------------------
4th:
6. Wild Things (1998) + John McNaughton,Steven A. Jones,Rodney Liber,Elena Maganini,George S. Clinton (And late arrival) Jeffrey L. Kimball: It's mostly a techincal track and, as I last heard in the track for Automaton Transfusion, Florida can be a uneasy place to film thanks to weather, gators, and un-cooperative house owners who don't like their property to be used.
7. Fantastic Four (2005) + Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba and Michael Chiklis: Chiklis chats the most. Gruffudd speaks the least. And Alba says, "Remember this scene?" a lot.
----------------------------
5th:
8. Near Dark (1987) + Kathryn Bigelow: A dry commentary with lots of dead space. But at least there's a soothing voice here provided by Kathryn.
----------------------------
6th:
9. L'Eclisse (1962) + Richard Peņa: I admit that I did some dozing off during the middle of this (I only liked the first and last halves of the movie anyway) but Peņa certainly runs on all 4 cylinders on this track. I was especially intrigued by his world-annihilation theory that Antonioni seemed to be going for.
10. Piranha (2010) + Alexandre Aja,Gregory Levasseur and Alix Taylor: Man, while I was re-watching this, I had to keep reminding myself that Elizabeth Shue was NOT Chelsea Handler. Anyway, decent track with some cool factoids (Tarantino recommending a certain scene to be filmed) and some stories involving re-cast actors (This movie wouldn't be quite the same without Gianna Michaels )
----------------------------
7th:
11. Star Trek III: The Search For Spock (1984) + Ronald D. Moore & Michael Taylor: I'm one of the few who doesn't mind "Fan" commentaries because it's refreshing to hear a different perspective of the movie instead of the usual self-congratulatory ones. This one was alright. I just could've done without all the mentions of "Battlestar Galactica". It was also amusing to hear how deteriorated the Klingon costumes eventually became (Since they were re-used for TNG episodes)
12. Delinquent Girl Boss: Worthless to Confess (1971) + Chris D.: It tends to be a tough task to make it all the way through a Chris D commentary. Even though he's got MAJOR knowledge about Japanese cinema, it always sounds like he just isn't that thrilled to be in the commentary booth for these tracks (Richard B. Jewell tends to sound the same way) Despite that, this track seemed to move by faster than his usual ones.
----------------------------
8th:
13. Crossfire (1947) + Alain Silver, James Ursini and (Audio Interview Excerpts from) Edward Dmytryk: Silver and Ursini mostly do a regular describing-onscreen job (With lots of emphasism about the studio system's reluctance to film the touchy subject) but I actually liked that snippets used from Dmytryk the most. It was especially intriguing to hear him talk about black-listed life.
14. The Wizard Of Gore (2007) + Jeremy Kasten, Zach Chassler, Dan Griffiths, Christopher Duddy and Maxx Gillman: Not as chaotic as I expected since there's so many guys here. It's no surprise that my favorite moments to hear was the insanity that Crispen Glover brings to a movie production.
----------------------------
9th:
15. Late Spring (1949) + Richard Peņa: This movie's obviously less ambiguous than L'Eclisse, but Peņa still finds a way to peel off all the layers and reveal more of what's hidden underneath. His tracks may not be the all-around package (In comparison to Glenn Erickson), but he still makes highly interesting commentaries.
16. The Bad Bunch (1973) + Greydon Clark: The 2nd commentary I've heard by Clark (Although I've yet to finish Black Shampoo) and while he might not be the most energetic guy behind the commentary mic, his memory appears to be super sharp when it comes to remembering who everyone in the movie is. This was a nice history lesson provided by him when it comes to low-budget filmmaking (Non-permit style)
----------------------------
10th:
17. Crumb (1994) + Terry Zwigoff and Roger Ebert: A much casual conversation between the two than what I was expecting. Nothing quite new to discover here, but still worth a listen.
18. Sudden Impact (1983) + Richard Schickel: If you're familiar with Schickel's commentaries, you know you're not getting any "Making-of-the-movie" stories from him. Instead, you just get analyzation of what occurs on the screen. This actually ended up being my favorite of Schickel's commentaries because it's amusing to hear him defending the film and also going through it's flaws.
----------------------------
11th:
19. 42nd Street Forever (Blu-Ray) + Edwin Samuelson, Michael Gingold and Chris Poggiali: All..3 hours..And 46 minutes..My love for exploitation film truly amazes me.
-----------------------------
13th:
20. The Life & Death of Peter Sellers (2004) + Stephen Hopkins and Geoffrey Rush: It took me a while to tell Hopkins and Rush's voices apart.....Come to think of it, I don't think I ever did. This made for an interesting listen because the duo seemed to speak less about the filmmaking and more about Sellers, the man. Almost as coming off as biographers themselves.
21. The Arena (1973) + Steve Carver (There was also a moderator on board, but I couldn't catch what her name was) Pretty good track for a movie that always seems to get a little better and better everytime I watch it. One thing that I never get tired of hearing is the language barrier that english-speaking filmmakers always had to deal with when it came to working with Italian crews.
----------------------------
14th:
22. 30 Days Of Night (2007) + Josh Hartnett, Melissa George and Rob Tapert: Never really been a big Hartnett fan, but his film knowledge and nice/cool-guy attitude is bound to win non-fans over (Heck, even a sympathy vote could be thrown in for the sickness and eye-injury he got during filming) and I'm so used to hearing female commentators (On horror movies) always gagging and groaning during the gory stuff. Even though I don't mind hearing that, it was a pleasure, for once, to hear Melissa (Aside from the head-crushing scene) displaying a tough stomach. Another reason why she's one of my most favorite actresses working today.
23. Toy Story (1995) *Ok, Deep Breath* John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter, Ralph Eggleston, Bill Reeves, Ralph Guggenheim, Bonnie Arnold, Joss Whedon and Joel Cohen (Alright, so I lied about those last two): Hard to believe that it's taken me this long to listen to the audio commentary for one of my most all-time favorite movies. I was actually expecting to hear a mixed story/technical track, but was pleased to hear that a large majority was spent talking about the storyline and the alterations that existed at one time. How great is this movie to me? I couldn't even pay attention to the commentators during the climactic truck chase. Still one of the most perfectly made sequences I've ever seen.
------------------------------
15th:
24. Hot Fuzz (2007) + Andy Leafe and Nick Eckland: Quite what you would expect to hear from the "Real Fuzz". Trivia about police-training and procedure along with laughs and chuckles to go with the comedy.
------------------------------
16th:
25. Bohachi Bushido-Clan of the Forgotten Eight (1973) + Taro Sugisaku, Takao Nakano and Yoshiki Hayashi: This is the 2nd group-commentary I've listened to in Japanese (The other was with Kitamura's Versus) where things turn out surprisingly chaotic and crazy. Pretty good information would often pop up concerning director Ishii. My favorite line in the track was "I don't know what this scene means, but I like it" Pretty much sums up what I say about certain Japanese films
26. Wagon Master (1950) + Peter Bogdanovich, Harry Carey Jr and (Audio Interview Excerpts from) John Ford-Regarding the excerpts (Taken from a 1966 Bogdanovich interview), they capture Ford in a relaxed mood and provide good insight on the makings of some of his other early works. But they seem to always show up at the wrong time since Bogdanovich & Carey created a very joyful listen as they watch and comment on the movie along with us. One of those times when I wished that the interview snippets were included for a featurette.
-------------------------------
17th:
27. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988) + Danielle Harris and Ellie Cornell: Never was a big fan of this movie, but even these two came close to making me realize my errors....Well, still can't say I'm a fan, but at least I now see the attempts on making it resemble Part 1's style. Nice to hear on this track that Danielle's wish would soon come true on eventually appearing in another Halloween film (Even if it was the Rob Zombie variety)
28. Wonderland (2003) + James Cox and Captain Mauzner: Man, and I thought I had a hard time telling Stephen Hopkins and Geoffrey Rush apart. That wasn't nothing compared to these two. Although (As the track goes on) it gets pretty clear that Cox does the most talking. Interesting (And kinda sick) to hear what sound effects were used to replicate the murder scenes.
-------------------------------
18th:
29. Tron (1982) + Steve Lisberger, Donald Kushner, Harrison Ellenshaw and Richard Taylor: It's not much of a surprise that a lot of the "How-they-did-that" talk went completely over my head (The documentary certainly made things much more simple) but it was cool to hear about possible casting decisions (Peter O'Toole and Debbie Harry!) and a Hidden Mickey sighting.
30. The House of the Devil (2009) + Ti West and Jocelin Donahue: I was actually expecting to hear what exact films and influences there was on the making of this, but all I seemed to get out of West was "TV movie of the week". Good to hear that I'm not the only one who couldn't understand what was being said on The Fixx's "One thing leads to another".
-------------------------------
19th:
31. Coming Home (1978) + Jon Voight, Bruce Dern and Haskell Wexler: Since Haskell seems to dominate the commentary in the early going, I was beginning to think this was mostly gonna be a tech track. But it was nice to have Dern and Voight (Who I've always wanted to hear on commentary) converge towards the end when they have their memorable actors' duel. And if the commentators didn't already get the point across enough, Hal Ashby was a visionary.
32. Watchmen - The Ultimate Cut: The Complete Story (2009) + Zack Snyder: Phew! Damn that was long (Didn't expect to hear Snyder talking through all the Tales/Freighter segments) And since there really wasn't much to talk about as far as the storyline was concerned, most of the track is focused on the geography/locales of the sets. Probably my most favorite moments were the mentions of all the easter eggs scattered around certain scenes.
-------------------------------
20th:
33. The Erotic Adventures of Zorro (1972) + Dave Friedman and Mike Vraney: Felt like giving this one a listen again. With Dave's fairly recent passing, I wonder what else Vraney got to inherit from Dave's collection.
34. Don't Come Knocking (2005) + Wim Wenders: The first, and certainly not last, commentary I've heard from Wenders. He provided a very smooth ride with his filmmaking factoids and his love letters to American landscapes. I especially loved how he spends the entire end-credits talking about the genesis of the title song.
35. It's Alive! (1974) + Larry Cohen: Not really as scene-specific as I was expecting, but Cohen's long stories concerning Bernard Hermann and the film's problematic distribution were certainly worth hearing.
-------------------------------
21st:
36. Frida (2002) + Julie Taymor: I actually loved hearing Taymor describe the ideas that went into the surreal moments. Makes me wish she could make an all-out surreal fest (Aside from The Tempest)
37. Monty Python's The Meaning of Life (1983) + Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam: It seemed like all the air went out of Gilliam's balloon once his opening short ended. Interesting to hear about the proposed ideas that lead into this final Python film.
38. The Lady in Red (1979) + Julie Corman and John Sayles: At first, I gladly welcomed the track because both commentators were working off each other (I got tired of hearing tracks where multiple commentators weren't in the same room together) but then Julie quietly backs off and John begins to dominate the track. Which didn't turn out to be a bad thing at all thanks to Sayles' jaw-dropping knowledge of mob/crime history. Seriously, Sayles might as well be the Ken Burns of the 1930's Underworld! To top it off, he throws in plenty of tidbits about low-budget filmmaking. *Marking this commentary down as one of my new favorites*
-------------------------------
22nd:
39. Island of Lost Souls (1932) + Greg Mank: As expected, another solid classic-movie-monster commentary by one of the genre's master commentators. Probably my most favorite trivia to listen to was the handling of the "Panther Woman" contest and it's four finalists.
40. The Proposition (2005) + John Hillcoat and Nick Cave: Apparenly, Hillcoat's a bit anti-DVD. Saying that films should only be seen on the big screen and how the colors looked inferior on DVD (Wonder what he thinks of Blu-ray?) My favorite Nick Cave moment was how Shane McGowan "Contributed" to one of the songs heard in the film.
41. Excalibur (1981) + John Boorman: Well, I had almost reached the end when the disc suddenly went nutty on me. Tried 3 different players and got the same results (It won't play past the grail search) I swear I can't find ONE scratch or crack on the disc that's causing this monumental fuck up. Weird. Anyway, (From what I was able to hear) a pretty good commentary from Boorman. Interesting to hear why he chose to shoot this in non-scope and non-surround sound.
-------------------------------
23rd:
42. Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010) + Alan Tudyk, Tyler Labine and Eli Craig: Where's my T-shirt at? (That's what they said I could get for making it so far into the commentary)
43. The Jazz Singer (1927) + Ron Hutchinson and Vince Giordano: The track mostly focuses on the Vitaphone technology, but there's also a good amount of various subjects that also get covered in between (Original casting, the Warner Bros, the impact of the film, etc). There was even a "Positive effect" that was brought up involving the infamous blackface routine (How the makeup was mostly used to make the performer's facial performance more visible for viewers who sat further back in the far seats) All in all, a good listen.
44. Bizarre (1969) + Richard Gordon and Tom Weaver: An awful movie, but I had hoped that Tom Weaver (One of my most favorite commentators) could help make this tolerable. Sadly, the commentary just turns out to be an interview. I couldn't even make it past the 25th minute.
-------------------------------
24th:
45. Mean Girls (2004) + Mark Waters, Tina Fey and Lorne Michaels: Nothing much to really go into here. Very little is said about the story and filmmaking. The one thing I did get a kick out of was that Lorne points out that bathroom scenes appear to be a fixture in Mark's movies.
46. Tenement: Game of Survival (1985) + Roberta Findlay: Roberta's got a lot of stories to share and it's quite a treat to hear her go through it all (Despite her complaints about the MPAA getting redundant) But it tends to be a disorientating commentary at times because there's a muted interviewer at hand and (Judging by Findlay's answers) we always have to guess what the questions are.
Nice to run into a commentary that has the director saying she got urinated on by a drunk crewman
47. Dumbo (1941) + Pete Docter, Paula Sigman and Andreas Deja: I listened to this commentary on standard DVD but later read that a more "Enhanced" visual track appeared on the Blu. Oh well. This is kind of a chaotic track because not only is there audio excerpts from animators thrown in (As is often heard in other Golden Age Disney films) but the commentators have seperate comments apart from the group viewing. To top it off, occasional Disney character voices strangely pop up from time to time....And did someone fart at 37:29? Maybe I need to pop in the Blu-ray to see what that was all about!
-------------------------------
26th:
48. The Big Bird Cage (1972) + Jack Hill: Of the six (Of the possible eight) commentaries that I've heard from Jack Hill, I feel that this is, by far, the most personal of his collection. You get the stories of how Coppola later used the same sets that Jack "Discovered" for Apocalypse Now. You get the stories of how his father (A pioneer in his own right) contributed to the title-structure of the film. And in later years, Quentin Tarantino even asked of Jack's approval for a certain actress to appear in one of QT's films. It actually wasn't much of a surprise for me to hear Jack end the commentary so suddenly (Since there was well over a minute left) due to his apparent love/hate relationship involving this film.
But at least one thing got fulfilled (ala Danielle Harris in Halloween 4) It's clear that this commentary was recorded well before the release of House of 1000 Corpses/Devil's Rejects. And Jack noted how Sid Haig's career seemed to go nowhere soon after. Well, here I am to say "Thank You, Rob Zombie" for introducing Sid to new, young fans!
-------------------------------
29th:
49. House of D (2004) + David Duchovny: You know you've got a good commentary when the commentator (Especially if it's the director) is always able to keep in time with the comments. What I mean by that is how the comments would never seem to overlow into an incoming scene. Duchovny was certainly sharp at that. Maybe a little too much repeating of the phrases, "Fairytale" and "1973" all throughout, but this was a very solid track.
-------------------------------
30th:
50. Cecil B. DeMented (2000) + John Waters: Since this was a movie about movies, I should've (Fittingly) saved this for last---But this is certainly close enough. Desperate Living is the only other commentary I've heard from Waters and after hearing this one, I'm dying to listen to more. Interestingly, the credits for the commentary indicate that he was interviewed. And while there were moments that sounded like he was responding to questions, it's also clear that he's watching and commenting on scenes at the same time. Regardless, this was a blast.
