Re: 2012 Oscar Nominations are Here!!!
LOL that Tintin and Cars 2 didnt get a noms for Best Animated film. Freakin love that.
LOVE that Tre of life and Rooney Mara were recognized. Really hoping for a Tree of Life upset over the crappy the Artist. Also Truly thing Win/Win deserves Original Screenplay nom. over everything else in that category and feell that Girl With Dragon Tattoo deserves a Adapted Screenplay over tinker tailor....

Re: 2012 Oscar Nominations are Here!!!
Biggest surprise for me was that Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close got a Best Picture nomination (48% critic rating at RottenTomatoes at time of writing this).
While I'm not shocked by it, kind of ridiculous The Tree of Life got a nomination after so many people disliked it. Even though the general population aren't voting members of the Academy, I feel like there should be some sort of consideration given to the general opinion of the film.

Re: 2012 Oscar Nominations are Here!!!
First thoughts:
- 9 Best Picture nominees, but no Bridesmaids or Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Lame.
- Never underestimate the power of Malick.
- Great to see both of the two main voice actors from Skyrim nominated for Best Supporting Actor. They have bright futures ahead.
- Gary Oldman, FINALLY an Oscar nominee (his first ever, so he's tied with Jonah Hill for career nods).
- Very pleased to see Melissa McCarthy, Rooney Mara, and Jessica Chastain on the list.

Yeah I yelled out "WTF" when they announced Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Also pretty surprised about Melissa McCarthy. The dude from A Better Life was a huge surprise, hadn't even heard of that. Was expecting Shame as an outside pick.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close? Wow. Is that this year's The Blind Side kind of thing? Or is that The Help? Well I guess it'd be closer to The Help cuz it's white woman helps black people kind of thing.
Also where the fuck is Fassbender's nom?!

I'd put The Artist, George Clooney, Viola Davis and Michel Hazanavicius as the early favorites to win Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Director respectively.

Re: 2012 Oscar Nominations are Here!!!
Fuck them in the a$$ for not nominating Girl with the Dragon Tattoo score and instead putting JOhn Willaims score for Tintin and Tinker tailor scores in there. This is insane!!!!!
Oh and for having only 2 Tellible choices in Original song while the National goes unrecognized for "Think You can Wait" from Win/Win.
Just a travesty

Can we already hand the Best Picture to "The Artist"? It won the PGA for best picture, and the film that wins that almost always wins the Oscar.

Also, Stephen Daldry goes 4 for 4 as a director of awful movies that get nominated for Best Picture (Billy Elliot, The Hours, The Reader, and now Extremely Loud).

Besides, Tree of Life has a lot of passionate supporters as well as a lot of passionate detractors, both within the critical community and members of the general public.

I don't think that I'll ever get used to hearing "Academy Award nominated actor Jonah Hill".
Do I sense new trailers coming out for The Sitter?

Also, even though I acknowledge the frivolousness of all this, I do make an effort every year to see all the Best Picture nominees before the winners are announced. Suffice it to say, I'm kind of pissed that I'm now going to have to watch Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

Re: 2012 Oscar Nominations are Here!!!
Oh c'mon - that kind of rhetoric doesn't do anyone any favors. While I personally really liked the film, I can assure you that at least some of the people who disliked the film did, in fact, understand it.
