Set in Kevin Smith’s iconic New Jersey comic shop, Comic Book Men, formerly know as The Secret Stash, is a one hour series that captures the world of the local comic book store. Way before comic book culture went mainstream, the comic store has not only been a place for people to buy, sell, or trade for cool stuff; but also to hang out and be part of a community that just loves comics. Secret Stash will capture both of these aspects of comic store life. It will document the daily banter of The Secret Stash and it’s employees and devoted customers; and it will capture the fun and emotion of buying and selling collectibles and comic memorabilia that happens in comic book stores all across the country and in mega-venues like Comic-Con.
Official Show Facebook

The show will premiere on Sunday February 12th on AMC, following The Walking Dead. If anyone is interested, I would recommend listening to the Tell 'Em Steve Dave podcast.

I might actually watch a reality show about a comic book store. A show with comic book nerds (and yes I'm a comic book nerd) sitting around talking... not so much.

I'll tune in but this does seem like one of those shows where I can't see how they'll have enough material for an entire series. How will they fill an hour each week? There is only so many times a person can bring in a rare comic & still be interesting.

Agreed, I'm a comic book fan but I can't think of what could carry an hour long series about this stuff. I would have to think a lot of stuff needs to be staged and set up.

Just saw a commercial for something called "Bayou Billionaires."

So, sadly, they're still coming up with insipid shit to make into reality tv.

This is what I think, I will watch the first episode because I collect comic books, then I will go from there.

Re: Comic Book Men - New AMC reality show set in Kevin Smith's NJ comic shop

From the podcast, which I'd imagine is 100x funnier than this show could ever be by the sheer fact they aren't told what to do or censored, I get the impression a lot of the series is them ragging on Ming (Kevin Smith's website lackey) and attempting to humiliate him. I'm not sure how well people will respond to it, especially if any of Bryan Johnson's racist impression of him (which is a constant on the podcast) makes it to the air.

I've actually been to that store.

I have no clue how they'll make a reality showed based out of it.

It's not a reality show though, because they're bringing in people not connected to the day-to-day running of the show. It's "Tell 'Em Steve Dave" the series but PG-13.

Re: Comic Book Men - New AMC reality show set in Kevin Smith's NJ comic shop

Remember, Smith tried to do a scripted show 12 years ago (Clerks: The Animated Series) and it got pulled after *two* episodes (with four unaired). And since reality shows get better ratings than shows where people put at least *some* thought into what they make--what's a guy to do?

Here's why I won't be watching and after being a loyal listener for nearly 100 episodes, am done with the podcast. Sounds like a bunch of very sad bullies.

You'll be able to have a drinking game based on how many zits you see on screen.

Re: Comic Book Men - New AMC reality show set in Kevin Smith's NJ comic shop

There was a guy who used to come into a comic book store of someone I knew who *just* was interested in She-Hulk comics.

Everyone one assumed it was an Amazonian fetish of some sort. If they get enough unique characters like that it could be be a viable series.

Or they could follow the trials of the virgins trying to get laid.

Most of Kevin Smith's best material doesn't work on television because of standards and practices. I'm not sure how a basic cable channel could deal with this issue without severely watering down the final product.

Re: Comic Book Men - New AMC reality show set in Kevin Smith's NJ comic shop

I haven't given a fuck about anything on TV since the end of Lost and to be honest Lost was the only show I watched on TV for years. Comic Book Men is something I'm almost tempted to upgrade my cable for. ( I only keep my cable so I can have internet )

I know it isn't for everyone and it's numbers will probably reflect that but networks will literally put anything on the air and I'm amazed when people act like this show is the worst thing out there. I haven't been a fan of reality TV, or TV that is supposed to simulate reality, since it branched off beyond The Real World. Having listened to the podcasts the guys do, visiting the store many times and being a huge Smith fan I'm willing to give this show a shot. Despite what the review say I'm sure to get more entertainment from this show than Billy The Exterminator, Toddlers and Tiaras and all shows based on a storage unit, pawn shop or towing company.
