OK, "Netflix will soon be history" was a little over the top. How about "Netflix will soon be facing much stronger competition."?

Here is an interesting quote from Netflix's CEO: "Both Amazon and Hulu Plus's content is a fraction of our content," Netflix CEO Reed Hastings wrote in a letter to investors in January. "We believe their respective total viewing hours are each less than 10 percent of ours."

Amazon VOD needs to:

1. improved their HD video quality. When watched over Roku on the television, there can be a lot of artifacting which I never get with Netflix.

2. The need to create a user queue and easier browsing interface.

These are interesting complaints as my experience has been:

1. Amazon's HD quality is much better than Netflix (if you can even find an HD movie on Netflix these days!)

2. Amazon's new (updated about 3 months ago) user queue is almost exactly like the one Netflix has...at least on the Roku.

Most of the movies in my Netflix Instant queue are HD.

Also I think the player makes a difference in pq.
My old ps3 had great NFS pq and 5.1 sound.
My Sony 780 bluray player no 5.1 and the hd quality is lacking compared to the Ps3.

I'm using a Roku 2 XS, and I can't find any option to add titles to any sort of queue. I bought it in January, and a few apps have updated since then, but not Amazon's.

I also agree with the Netflix HD. The majority of movies and tv shows in my queue are in HD. Unless you watch the Starz titles, which are expiring February 29th anyway, many of them are in HD. Netflix has 4187 tiltes in HD: http://instantwatcher.com/genres/506...ease_year+desc

Amazon Instant Video - Non Prime Free Purchase Full Episodes

This thread came up when I searched for information on Amazon Prime...

I've noticed that some films seem to be included free with Amazon Prime when I stumble across them, but not when I actually sit down to watch them. Does anyone know (or can anybody speculate) on the following questions:

1. I know that Amazon (depending on the accuracy of the search) allows you to order things by 'new'ness, but is there a website or list that also tracks which items are newly free and/or about to cease to be?

2. Is there any rhyme or reason as to which films/shows cease to be free or become free (aside from deals made or expiring)?
(Say, a newly-added film may be briefly free and then become priced, or something that has been charged for for over a year may become free briefly/permanently, etc.)

3. Are films that were once free likely to become free again?

Any thoughts would be welcome, and I'm particularly interested in whether this has happened to other people - I thought I'd read in some press release or article that things added to Prime were going to stay there, but I've definitely noticed this not to be the case. Can't complain much because the range is still good, but it is becoming mildly annoying to schedule something and then find it no longer free...

Amazon occasionally will list movies that are going off the Prime streaming. They told everyone that many of the bigger catalog titles available for free over Christmas, were going away in January. Usually though it's a mystery and depends on Amazon's licensing deals with various entities.
