Scott Rudin is producing with Anderson. Indian Paintbrush, the financier/production company bankrolled by billionaire Steven Rales, is in early conversations to fund the film and come aboard as producer. Rales, who recently installed Rudin's longtime president Mark Roybal to run the company and step up its output of auteur-driven prestige films, has a strong relationship with Anderson. Rales was involved as a producer in Anderson's The Fantastic Mr. Fox as well as The Darjeeling Limited. Both films were produced by Rudin.

Moon Rise Kingdom is set in the 60s. Two young adults fall in love and run away. Leaders in their New England town are sticking the idea that they've disappeared and go in search of them. Norton will play a scout leader who brings his charges on a search. Willis is in talks to play the town sheriff who’s also looking, and who is having an affair with the missing girl’s mother, the role McDormand is in talks to play. Murray, a regular in Anderson films, will play the girl's father, who has his own issues.

Interesting, but not thrilled about the Bruce Willis casting if true. I just don't believe he has the acting chops for this type of film.

Will it be animated? That's what I'm most curious about at the moment.

Anyway, I'm already sold. It doesn't take much to convince me to see a Wes Anderson film. Just his name.

Now that production is gearing up to shoot this spring in Rhode Island, we’ve begun to get some final confirmations on which actors we can expect to see in film.

The local Rhode Island casting agency LDI Casting has revealed that “Ed Norton, Frances McDormand and Jason Schwartzman will join the already stellar cast of Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton and Bill Murray“. Schwartzman is the only new name to be added to the list. The story involves two young lovers (aged around 12-15 years old) who runaway from their New England hometown, causing the locals to search for them. No actors have yet been named for those roles, but casting agencies were looking for locals, and its likely they will be unknowns.

Schwartzman is always welcome, especially if he's being directed by Anderson.

I'm always looking forward to a new Wes Anderson film. The only film of his that I didn't care for was The Darjeeling Limited. I love all his other films and think Fantastic Mr. Fox is a modern day masterpiece!

Can't wait. I love Anderson. Darjeeling Limited wasn't his best, but it was quite interesting with some very arresting sequences. The only film of his I dislike is Bottle Rocket.

Fantastic news. I was expecting to have to wait until Xmas next year. I hope focus gives this a good wide release.

Andersons never done a PG-13 before so I'm pretty dissapointed. Hope it doesnt affect the quality.

Totally excited, although the lack of love for Darjeeling Ltd in this thread (his most assured and best film IMO) makes me

I love that film too. I wouldn't be able to tell you which is his best though. I do love Life Aquatic a good bunch though.

Re: MOONRISE KINGDOM (May 2012) (dir. Wes Anderson)

Wes Anderson, to me, is one of the foremost Directors working today. His films are not necessarily 'original', rather, his films are bastards, the result of a passionate love affair with film and film history.

Watching an Anderson film you really feel his exuberance toward motion pictures. His love for film pours out into the theatre with shots, scores, words that you might feel 'belong' to another film that you sometimes can't quite put your finger on.

His mix of cinematography and music makes me feel that "yes, this is what cinema should be".

His ability to integrate true emotion into a comedic situation is unmatched. I cry every time I watch 'Royal Tenenbaums'..actually I'm getting a tear just remembering certain scenes. The interaction between Chas and Royal at the end is truly a touching scene. And although 'Royal Tenenbaums' took a page from 'The Magnificent Ambersons', I feel that RT will be remembered more fondly than TMA.
My only concern is whether or not Anderson can keep up his youthful zeal for film. I certainly hope so, and I believe he can.

This may be his first PG-13 feature, but I seem to recall his PG-rated Fantastic Mr. Fox being pretty, well, fantastic.

Re: MOONRISE KINGDOM (May 2012) (dir. Wes Anderson)

Yeah it was but that was an adaptation of a children's book and not his original creation.
As long as we get a great look and a great soundtrack I wont be too worried. Just seems strange that a lot of directors that previously only did R-rated work now seem to be doing lots of PG-13.
