SNL 12/03/11 - H: Steve Buscemi - MG: The Black Keys

This is Steve's second time hosting... the first time was way back in '98 (with Third Eye Blind as the MG).

Here are the ads...

Can't wait.

Steve actually started out as a comedian

Wow, that was bad. Don't think I watched a single sketch all the way through.

Re: SNL 12/03/11 - H: Steve Buscemi - MG: The Black Keys

The writers must be tapped the past few weeks, because they have been relying on recycled bits more than ever. The coach-pedo sketch was a definite highlight and the monologue was pretty good, but all in all it was one of those episodes where, news references aside, you could have told me it was a rerun and I probably would have believed you.

The Playskool setting in the Wiig-can't-keep-a-secret sketch -- can't remember the character's name -- was strange... did Playskool pay them for the product placement? And if so, why on SNL of all places? Or did thewriters set it at Playskool just to set up that one Mr. Potato Head sight gag?

Digital short and the Coach thing were the only two I could make it thru. Wow, incredibly bad this week.

I always enjoy Maya Rudolph's Whitney Houston impression.

That Sex Ed commercial was pretty funny.

Same here, Maya Rudolph is one of my all time favorties on SNL.

It is time (past time) for Wiig to leave, here characters are really tired.

Digital Short, the Sex Ed Commercial, WU, and the Coach deal were funny.

Yup.

It was a rare occasion where I was FF'ing through that horrible Miley sketch but saw "Whitney" and had to stop and watch it. She has so much fun playing Whitney that it's fun for me to watch it.

The Black Keys' drummer looks just like an older McLovin'.

Horrible episode. The funniest thing was the skit with Armisen doing Obama in the beginning. Maya Rudolph was painful to watch. Didn't help that Whitney Houston hasn't been relevant in over a decade. I really don't like how they focus so much on Wiig. She's just not funny. And drunk uncle? WTF? Hideous.

Was Armisen even trying to do an Obama voice?

Batman and Sex Ed were the only two sketches I liked. Overall, pretty bad.

Batman and the monologue were good. Buscemi doing the sexy food bit lol

I don't think this show was that bad.

Sucky episode. I had to watch this sketch from "MadTV" as a palate cleanser.

The current SNL couldn't come close to making a sketch this brilliant.

Does anyone else think it's ridiculous that one has to watch a commercial to see the commercial videos in the first post? That's crazy.

Yeah, I loved the way Bobby played that character. He even had those little moments where it got depressingly awkward for a few seconds, and he didn't go for any obvious setups. I wonder if he was improvising the whole time.

Instead of going back that that well he did a horrible Celo sketch a couple of weeks back so maybe.

I mean why go back to something that constantly works when you can go back to things like Miley Cyrus that didn't even work the first time.

Re: SNL 12/03/11 - H: Steve Buscemi - MG: The Black Keys

Maybe I'm just noticing it now, but a lot of these sketches just don't give the hosts much to do. The coach one was pretty much built around Buscemi's look but it was mainly Sudekis and the rest of the cast speaking about him. That Wiig "surprise" girl sketch is pretty much the same every time, I think the "rack" comment was the only distinguishing thing about the boss this time. Maya was the focus on the Miley show.

I found it ironic that the monologue was basically about him breaking out of just being the creepy guy in movies, and most of these skits were based around how creepy he looks.

Yup. If I were in charge of the show I would've done a Reservoir Dogs reunion. I'm sure Madsen, Kietel and Tim Roth would've agreed to it.
