Blade Runner 2049 (2017, D: Villeneuve) S: Ford, Gosling

Just saw this:

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/48712

I claim to be the single biggest Blade Runner fan in the world and i have mixed feelings about the news. I think that world has a lot of potential for others stories, but i find it hard to imagine any new movie would do anything other than make us continue to realize how great the original film was. It would certainly need Ridley Scott back in order to get Ridleyville back looking as good as it did in the original.

On a side note, i see that 1982 is having a great year for sequels to sci-fi movies that originally bombed. We have already had Tron, we are getting a sequel to the Thing and now the possibility of more Blade Runner movies. Thank god they are not doing another E.T. One of those movies is more than enough.

Re: Blade Runner Prequel and Sequel in Works.

One of the most overrated movies of all time.

a rather boring story made worse by Harrison Ford sleepwalking thru the role.

pass and pass.

I agree with the OP: such a rich world that we barely got a glimpse of in the original movie, but what other story do you tell? If you just show another BladeRunner hunting down replicants, then it could be derivative; but if you make something too different then people will wonder why you set it in that universe in the first place.

I thought the Final Cut did a great job of streamlining the movie and upped the pace quite substantially. But I agree, it's a world that could be explored very well, and I hope it is -- I just hope they do it right.

I forgot that Soldier was set in the Blade Runner universe. Hmmmm...a story with potential that was badly written and certainly in the wrong hands.

I don't know my electronica shit... so I dunno.. Aphex Twin, Daft Punk, Juno Reactor.

Actually, just give it to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. So we simultaneously have a soundtrack and Ghosts Vol VI.

Does anyone remember the show Total Recall 2070? That was pretty much a Bladrunner 'series', and it was pretty decent.

I wouldn't mind seeing another film set in the Blade Runner universe, given how rich in detail it is, but a direct prequel/sequel will not go over well.

Of course they will suck completely, and probably be hugely successful financially.

The largest demand in any generation is from the least cultivated taste.

Re: Blade Runner Prequel and Sequel in Works.

When I was younger I tried reading the sequel by K.W. Jeter but couldn't get into it.

Blade Runner stands up just fine on it own.

Yes, another film in that universe would be great but not another film solely focusing on replicant/human struggles. The off-world colonies intrigue me greatly.

I don't think these would turn out well. But since they mentioned that they would explore other mediums, get Bioware to do a video game.

I liked the Tron sequel, never having even seen the original, so this might be good.

Correct. After seeing the new films, all my fond memories of the original film will be lost...like tears in rain.

I just hope that after I see the sequel I can say they've done a man's job.

Re: Blade Runner Prequel and Sequel in Works.

With today's special effects they can creative something massive and gorgeous. But I'm usually against sequels as many cannot hold their own against the original. Hope they get Vangelis for these new movies.
