FLEET FOXES "Helplessness Blues" 2011
I almost forgot about one of my favorite new bands from 2009. Fleet Foxes are back with a new record Helplessness Blues, which comes out today.
I'll be picking mine up for $7.99 at BB.
Anyone heard this yet? Thoughts....

Re: FLEET FOXES "Helplessness Blues" 2011
When I first opened the packaging for the CD I thought they had stuffed a couple of chapters of "War and Peace" inside the sleeve.
I pretty much threw that thing in the trash. What a waste to use that enormous font on their Thank You's and then scribble the lyrics on the cardboard inside, that are difficult to read.
Oh well, it's a minor complaint, and at least the music is really good.

Saw them last week in Hollywood. They sound fantastic live (though the Palladium mixed them far too loud, almost as if they're a metal band), and put on a really good show, but they're sorta dull personalities with zero showmanship.

Thanks for posting those YouTube videos. I've heard of Fleet Foxes, but never heard them. I may jump on that amazon deal for the album. Is their 1st album just as good?

Re: FLEET FOXES "Helplessness Blues" 2011
Agreed with whomever said the first album is pretty solid. This album, I find myself actually wondering why they are writing bad songs. I didn't like Helplessness Blues (the song) too much at first but really dig it now...but even with that, I find that I LOVE the first half of the song...then want to skip the second half. Maybe it is a grower, but so far it just is not doing anything for me. Kinda upsetting based on how much of a revelation the first album was in the indie music world.
On a positive note, does anyone feel that Robin's voice and vocal choices are strikingly similar to Simon and Garfunkel. I dig those moments.

Having said that the whole neo-folk rock of this band and stuff like Beach House and Midlake in general does nothing for me, so YMMV.

I really liked White Winter Hymnal, but the rest of their stuff is pretty much just background ignorable stuff for me. I don't dislike it, but I don't exactly love it.
