Oh wow. Is this the first time in forever a (mainstream release) Sony DVD and Blu-Ray match in special features?

Actually I remember reading an interview with David Fincher that they did all the editing at the script level and that when they went into filming they thought they would be looking at a 140-150 minute movie that just naturally ended up being 120ish minutes and so there probably isn't any deleted scenes (with the exception of some minor dialouge)

"How did they ever make a movie of Facebook?" More like WHY did they make a movie of Facebook.

Hey the kids a millionaire after starting with a small idea at school. Why not make a film about this success story!!! And Fincher's the one that can pull it off!

Or why did they make a movie about a talking pig, or pool, or math, or golf or a game show... because any subject in the hands of talented story tellers can be amazing.

Fantastic movie, but already a contender for worst packaging of the year. I simply hate cardboard cases.

Re: The Social Network (2 Disc Collector's Edition) 01/11/11

It appears so. On the bright side the movie looks really great and the i just finished watching the documentary which is very good. A lovely touch they have done is the small movies that are displayed on the extras disc if you just leave it. Really nice indeed. It all feels like a Criterion without being a Criterion.

Has anyone rented this from a $1 kiosk? I was wondering if the disc has the commentaries or was it striped down without extras?

Re: The Social Network (2 Disc Collector's Edition) 01/11/11

i saw the DVD in shops and i thought the outer case is a slipcase but today i got mine it turns out it's just a case that you doesn't have a base or whatever you wanna call it..why in the hell did they do that?! couldn't they just go all the way with a complete slipcase or slipcover?

this sucks.

Re: The Social Network (2 Disc Collector's Edition) 01/11/11

I agree that it's bad packaging for this.

I also thought it was a slipcover over a digipack, but instead it's more like a slipcover without the bottom part. I have no idea how long this cheap slipcover is going to last on the shelf. Heck I may just take it off and put if in a drawer somewhere and just put the black inner case on the shelf instead.

Oh another thing is that the title is so dark it's going to be difficult to see sitting on the shelf.

Packaging I would give it a 1.5 out of 5.

Exactly what I ended up doing. First I tried the "can I fit the faux slipcase *into* the box", but that failed. Quickly decided it wasn't worth the effort, and just folded the thing flat and shoved it in a drawer with several other relics of bad DVD packaging.

I figure the cardboard box will eventually get banged up enough by the pressure of other DVD cases on the shelf that I'll know the title by sight anyway. Funny thing is I don't see how this could have been a cost saving idea, as the inner plastic disk holders and folded box within a box within a fake slip cover looks like it should have been at least as costly as a standard 2 disk eco case.

Then again, its still nowhere near as bad as the packaging for There Will Be Blood.
