Ridley Scott or James Cameron?

Ridley Scott gave us: Alien, Bladerunner, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, Blackhawk Down

James Cameron gave us: Aliens, The Terminator, T2, The Abyss, True Lies

who ranks higher?

Re: Ridley Scott or James Cameron?

While I think Blade Runner is a genuine film masterpiece, Ridley Scott has so many misses it's not funny.

Cameron, while he may not have hit the heights of Blade Runner, has been far more consistent and made some of the most iconic action films of the last century. Cameron takes it.

This is another comparison (besides Abrams & Bay) that I can't choose between. Both Scott and Cameron are equally entertaining to me. -kd5-

Re: Ridley Scott or James Cameron?

This is tough. Based solely on Blade Runner and Alien (2 of my fav movies of all time) I should vote for Ridley.

But James has also done 2 of my favs (T2 and Aliens). As Supr pointed out, he's been more consistent and it's hard to argue with that.

I'm gonna hold off on voting for now. I gotta think this one out.

Ridley Scott based on the trifecta : The Duellists - Alien - Bladerunner.
Don't like the rest of his films.

Re: Ridley Scott or James Cameron?

Scott:mindblowing visuals
Cameron:exceptional action

I'll go with Scott. I only like T1 from Cameron while Scott for Alien, BR, Legend, the worlds of those movies are so immersive.

I agree w/ everything you said. I can't wait for the remaster of T1, T2 along w/ True Lies on BD. FINALLY we get True Lies on BD! FINALLY!

Re: Ridley Scott or James Cameron?

And in my mind, Alien and Aliens cancel each other out (both being at the height of their respective genres), so if you take that out, Scott's filmography really pales in comparison to Cameron's.

Re: Ridley Scott or James Cameron?

Gotta go with Scott; he's done more films and regardless of consistency, I don't think he strives to be a blockbuster filmmaker; he's just out to make interesting films.

Re: Ridley Scott or James Cameron?

Aliens..one of the greatest sequels and action films ever.

T1...interesting genre bending nature in a way w/ a cool plot. I dunno if I want to say this is his best but....I need to think about it more.

T2....ditto

The Abyss (I'd love to see in an anamorphic format one day) great acting by Biehn and dang good flick

True Lies...awesome comedy/action. Actually his trilogy of films w/ Arnold are just so damn good.]

Titanic....average story, good acting, GREAT design=Good but very overrated film but still good

Avatar...the average of average plots, w/ decent acting (BUT Stephen Lang was the man playing that character. I wish he'd be in more), and those damn visuals...way to go JC and Weta..

I've yet to be displeased by any film of his. To me..Titanic and Avatar are his failures in a way. Mostly cuz of the plots actually. They're still good though. It's his design that made them more than what they are.

Love Alien and Blade Runner, but they can't touch T1 & 2, or Aliens.

Re: Ridley Scott or James Cameron?

Ridley Scott

The Duellists, Alien, Bladerunner, Legend (yeah you heard me) are enough for me to put this in the Scott column. I'm not a big Gladiator or BHD fan, and yes I do think he's lost his touch in recent years, still his early work is masterful.

Cameron just never did it for me. The Terminator and Aliens are the only films of his I hold in high regard.

Re: Ridley Scott or James Cameron?

Ridley Scott...
I detest both Blade Runner and Avatar equally and The Alien films cancel each other out, so essentially it comes down to the first two Terminators vs Gladiator and BHD. Scott wins.

Re: Ridley Scott or James Cameron?

If it came down to Barry Lyndon or The Godfather, I'd take Barry Lyndon. If it came down to Barry Lyndon or The Godfather Part II, I'd take The Godfather Part II. But if it came to Kubrick or Coppola, well we know how that one ends.

I like Ridley better. He keeps producing well-made and interesting films, time and time again.

I'm not a fan of either but if I had to choose I guess it would be Ridley Scott.

Another Legend fan here. I love both directors' works, but Scott gets the nod from me.
