Hitchcock or Kurosawa

Battle commence. both kicked 50s tail.

I will go for Kurosawa even though i love Vertigo, Psycho but need to really see Strangers on a Train.
solely for SS and Throne of Blood.

Re: Hitchcock or Kurosawa

Kurosawa wins this one, despite Vertigo being one of the best films of all time. Kurosawa has three (Rashomon, Seven Samurai and Ran), and then add Yojimbo and he takes it. Kurosawa was far more versatile in general.

Re: Hitchcock or Kurosawa

Damn, this is the toughest pairing by far. I couldn't live without either creator's films. But I have to go with Kurosawa. Not even counting the Samurai stuff, High & Low + the Bad Sleep Well, his take on noir just put him over the top.

Oh, and Kurosawa got the best performances out of one of my two choices for best actor of all time, Toshiro Mifune (my other choice would be Klaus Kinski). Hitchcock had to make due with Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant.

That's what makes him win in my eyes. He's my fav classic director and I am somewhat sad that I never properly lived under his breath of films. I was born too late but also wonderfully learning and growing in the now.

AK for me. If it had to be one film...

Seven Samurai

Rashoman
Hidden Fortress
Throne of Blood
etc
etc.

Even his early post war work you could tell he was just getting better and better. One of my fav directors to see an evolution in his work for sure.

YOU BASTARD!!!

Kurosawa is the Imperial Master of Cinema. Hitchcock is the King of Suspense. I'm going with AK but I'm sad I couldn't vote for Hitch.
