Very sad loved her in THE GREAT SILENCE, BLACULA, THE EIGER SANCTION.

Terrible news.
Pam was the sexiest, but Vonetta was definetly the most prettiest.

MELINDA (1972) was the film that made her a neighborhood favorite back in the day. She played the title character. She was gorgeous. And a good actress. It was amazing to discover years later that she had a pre-Blaxploitation career in Italy and to see her at long last in THE GREAT SILENCE (which I don't recall ever being shown in the U.S. theatrically back then).
She was in a relationship with Max Julien (THE MACK) and they made a Bonnie-and-Clyde-type western together, THOMASINE AND BUSHROD (1974), directed by Gordon Parks Jr., but I never saw that. It had a brief theatrical run and, as I recall, didn't have much TV circulation, if any.
In addition to MELINDA, BLACULA and THE EIGER SANCTION, two other movies of hers that I saw in theaters back then were HAMMER, with Fred Williamson, and SHAFT IN AFRICA. She made quite an impression, of course, and, unfortunately, faded from the scene somewhat after Blaxploitation ran its course. She could have gone on to major stardom had she come along when Halle Berry did, but unfortunately, she came up at a time when women stars like Jane Fonda, Faye Dunaway, Sissy Spacek and Sally Field were battling each other for the few good roles that came along. It wasn't a good time for women in the business, esp. women of color. And not even for male stars of color. Robert Hooks went from starring in TROUBLE MAN to playing a bartender on a jumbo jet in AIRPORT '77. Oh, it's a long story...
