Does anyone "recommend" the film - KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE? (1977)?
The film is by famed director John Landis, yet the film doesn't really boast any big-named stars (or even little-named ones).......it's supposed to be a "skit-film," and some people think it was funny, some not.
What do ya'all think of this film? Worthy of a blind bye?

The movie is great. It takes a cold person to not laugh at 90% of jokes.
Catholic High School Girls in Trouble
Rex Kramer, Danger Seeker is still my favorite, I've watched that part on repeat for hours.

Hell yeah it was written by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, Jerry Zucker the people who brought you "Airplane", "Hot Shots!", "Naked Gun", etc, etc

I love the humor of ZAZ and enjoy Kentucky Fried Movie quite a bit. My only problem with it is the Kung Fu parody goes on WAY too long and brings the movie to a halt, IMO. Everything else in it is funny though.

"Recommend"? In an ironic kind of way? Or do you want to know if we genuinely recommend it?
I own it, haven't watched it yet. Need to get on that...

I'm going to have to go against the crowd on this one. Despite loving and frequently re-visiting Top Secret, Airplane, and the Naked Gun series, there was very little I liked in Kentucky Fried Movie. It certainly has a couple of chuckles, but it's nowhere near as enjoyable or 'refined' as the films that followed. If you're particularly charmed by the low-budget angle, it's possible you'll like this a great deal, though.

I saw the film 33 years ago when it came out and I laughed a lot back then. I haven't seen it since but I remember so much of it in detail and a week, maybe even a day, doesn't go by without triggering a memory of a gag from it.
"Moscow in flames, missiles headed for New York. Film at Eleven."
"The popcorn you are eating has been pissed on."
(I still remember the dude in front of me laughing hysterically at that and repeating the line over and over.)

I'm a fan of Bruce Lee's Enter The Dragon and I love the Fistful of Yen parody that makes up a large portion of Kentucky Fried Movie. It's a great spoof of ETD.
A bit of trivia is that the making of KFM directly lead to ZAZ coming up with the idea for Airplane!. KFM has some late-night TV commercial spoofs in it, so when the ZAZ team were writing the movie, they were recording a lot of late night TV to watch the real commercial for spoof ideas. And one night they inadvertently recorded Zero Hour!, the '50s disaster movie in which a passenger airplane loses both its pilots to food poisoning. And from from stumbling across that movie on late night TV, they created Airplane!.

I love it... I do agree that Fistful of Yen runs too long.
Also a lot of the jokes are a product of the time, which may be lost on younger viewers .

As someone who just saw it for the 1st time with a crowd, I'll never get tired of this movie. Completely cheesy, sophomoric, and smart at the same time. I would like to see Landis and others do a new movie with an 80's skateboard movie as the main spoof.

After all these years, no matter how many times I see the movie, this line always makes me laugh:
"This is Butkus, Klahn's bodyguard. He is tough and ruthless. This is Kwong, Klahn's chauffeur. He is rough and toothless."
