I noticed it about a week ago. I've had the Sony for a few years now. It's 1080i LCD and I just replaced the bulb a few months ago. It's possible my 2-year-old hit or threw something at the tv. It's more of a bluish/white tint right in the center of the screen covering a fairly large area & looks circular. Depending on what's playing and what color is on that spot, it can be easy to see or hard- my kids can see it, but my wife doesn't see it. It shows up on all inputs & I've tried adjusting the settings and it's still there. Any ideas?

I wonder if it is the engine block going haywire? This was a problem for sony's Rear Projection sets.

I got the same issue now. My friend says the color alignment is messed up. I have a 42 inch rear projected tv from 05. Im going to buy a new tv.

When that happened to me, I went to the pharmacist. I showed her the fully engorged monster that wouldn't go down and asked her what she could give me for it. I have a Sony 55" from 2006 and I noticed a blue spot along the bottom and left corner

You can see it clearly when the screen has a strong white image.

This is a known defect in the Sony RPTVs. It happened to my neighbor's set and he was able to get a new light engine installed under warrenty. That is the fix, by the way. That was a couple of years ago, and I don't think you can do that anymore. There were extensive threads on this for years over on the AVS forums.

If the warranty expired can they still replace the light engine and how much would it cost?

Aparrently, the optical block is at the heart of the problem. I searched the RPTV Forum over on AVS for Sony blue spots and came up with a lot of hits. Here is one sample thread and here is another.

Good luck. That first sample thread may hold out some hope for you.

I called Sony and the repairs would cost more than $1,000.

They did offer a free Sony 40" TV and discounts on their 55" TV for $525.

Thought I would own this TV for at least 10 years with no problems. This sucks. I am not going to buy a Sony again.

I contacted them and told them I will take the 40" since my bro wants it but I have to send a pic of the problem on the TV.

I listed the Sony 55" at Craiglist and I got 2 offers for $400 and I hope this second buyer comes through on the transaction. First one flaked.

Just hope he or she does not come to my house armed with a weapon.
