Re: First Annual B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-in Movie Challenge ***Lists Go Here***

Green=First time viewing

April 1:
1: Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny. Barry Mahon (Good Time With a Bad Girl) made this masterpiece for the lucrative kiddie matinee market in the early 70s. Follow the adventures of Santa with his sleigh stuck in the sands of Florida. While waiting to be rescued, Santa tells us the tale of Thumbalina. Eventually, the Ice Cream Bunny arrives in his Firetruck and rescues Santa. It took me nearly 15 years to track down this little gem and was it ever worth it. We get the worst Santa, all sweat stained pits and ass crack, and the mangiest Bunny costume ever. My favorite bit has Santa singing a song to call the children. They freeze frame the kids until he calls their names. One kid is jumping off the roof of his house with an outdoor table umbrella! At one point, a kid asks Santa why he doesn't catch a plane and Santa asks what would he then do with his sleigh. Later, when the Ice Cream Bunny rescues him, they leave the sleigh behind and it simply vanishes. Santa is an asshole.

2: The Streetfighter. Sonny Chiba is the Man in this violent classic. I've had this 10 DVD set for years and never watched them. All part of the reason I was so looking forward to this challenge. Quite worth it. I'm not really a fan of Japanese cinema, but this is one of the better films. Highly recommended.

3: Return of the Streetfighter. More of the same, and that's not bad. Chiba fights the Japanese Mafia. Check it out.

4: Streetfighter's Last Revenge.. OK, now it's getting silly. Chiba is a celeb now. He gets hired to reover some tape with instructions on how to make heroin. Things get silly with a strongman Mexican hired to get Chiba and a woman with Lucy from Twin Peaks' voice in love with him. Still violent, but with goofier dialog.

5: Malatesta's Carnival of Blood. Nice little obscure gem. Reminds me of a 70s Carnival of Souls. Very odd.

6: Big Bad Mama.. Classic. I always forget Robbie Lee from Switchblade Sisters is in this one.

7: Test Tube Babies. OK, the first real stinker. Infertile couple want to have a baby. It's mostly an educational film (even has the narrator of Glen or Glenda as the doctor). He talks them into artificial insemination. There's one gratuitous scene with two strippers fighting at a party they through. Other than that, a real waste.

April 2:
8: Exposed. Christina Lindberg. I'd only ever seen Thriller before and Christina is mute and kind of pathetic in it. This would be the first time I get to see her act. She's a young woman who somehow ended up in a swinger party and had some tasteful nude photos taken of her. The photographer threatens to blackmail her with the photos but ends up giving them to her with little fuss. Most of the film seems like a mundane slice of life rather than a crime thriller. They do find plenty of excuses to get poor little Christina nekkid, but as pretty as she is, she has the acting ability of a "Real Doll ©". She is an extremely morose presence. I did like the little shots of Christina's fantasies, but they led to a very confusing climax.

9: Blackbelt Jones. My first Blaxploitation of the challenge. Fun flick, but not enough boobs. Scatman (Hong Kong Fooey himself) even gets to kick some ass.

10: Hot Potato (Blackbelt Jones 2). Not as good and a bit cliche. Jones must rescue a Senator's daughter from a Southeast Asian stronghold. Lots of color and action, but I really hated the comedy relief Rhino.

11: Enter the Dragon. Blu-ray. Classic. Bruce Lee, John Saxon, Kung Fu. What's more to ask?

12: Black Samson. Great film.

13: Stephen Romano PresentsShock Festival Trailer Compilation (exploitation marathon disc)

April 3:
14: Child Bride. Sleazy. Actually not that bad, really. Umm, no. It's really bad.

15: Willie Dynamite. The life of a pimp. Great, great film. Notable appearance: Willie Dynamite is Gordon from Sesame Street! Same year, too. I'm trying to figure out where I know him from the whole movie then I see it on IMDB. Also appearing, Olan Soule, the voice of Batman from Superfriends.

16: Black Caesar. Remake of Little Caesar. Later remade as American Gangster. Great soundtrack, but you can say that about all Blax films. Larry Cohen film. Trivia: it was originally to have been Sammy Davis Jr.

17: Pinky. Drama about a light skinned black woman who passed for white. Controversial film that opened the door to films being protected by the first amendment. Probably too classy for this challenge.

18: Pick-Up. Very surreal. Still can't tell what the damn thing was about.

19: The Teacher.. Not bad, but was missing something. Perhaps some humor or better pacing as a thriller.

20: The Swinging Cheerleaders. As a huge Jack Hill fan, how did I go this long without watching this? Not as funny as it should have been.

April 4:
21: 5 Fingers of Death

22: If Footmen Tire You, What Will Horses Do?. This one is a riot. "Schools are more interested in teaching about sex than the three "r's". (insert of the teacher saying "I believe Pre-marital sex is necessary., now the 7 erogenous zones in the female...") "Dancing is as wrong as it's always been. It's the first step to adultery." Apparently, the US is going to be taken over by Castro but he has Les from You Can't Do That On Television (not really, looks and sounds like him) speaking in a vaguely Romanian accent in charge. One kid refuses to dig his heel into a picture of Jesus so he gets his head chopped off.

23: A Thief In the Night. Not nearly as bad as the Ron Ormand stuff. A bit preachy, but it looks like they actually tried to make a movie this time.

April 5:
24: Gymkata. Bottom of the barrel drek. You must see this.

April 6:
25: I'm Gonna Get You Sucka! Still Funny Blax parody.

April 7:
26: Kung Pao:Enter the Fist. Stupid, but I have an affection for it.

April 8:
27: Django. Great spaghetti western.

28: Smiley Face. Cute film. Anna Faris is great.

April 9:
29: Caligula: The Untold Story. Cheap and sleazy. Putrid. Somehow actually manages to make Tinto Brass' Caligula look good.

30: Corvette Summer.. Saw this back in '79 on HBO and not since then. Might as well be first time. I had totally forgotten that the whole reason I ever watched Designing Women was because I had a crush on Annie Potts based upon this movie.

31: Xanadu. High Def. Worth it for the great ELO soundtrack.

32: Cindy and Donna. Slice of life about two sisters and the decisions they make.

33: Pink Floyd The Wall. High Def

34: Cinderella. Not bad ADULT musical version. Cheryl "Rainbeaux" Smith has a nice singing voice and the songs are actually quite good with catchy tunes and clever lyrics. I managed to find a 2.35:1 version. Plus, Rainbeaux is nekkid. A lot. Then again, when isn't she?

35: Survival of the Dead. High Def. Not bad sequel to Diary of the Dead. Not very good, either.

36: The Little Cigars. Even "The Teacher" Angel Tompkins can't save this lame film about a gang of Little People thieves. (before they were famous sighting. Frank Bonner from WKRP in Cincinnati as a bellhop.)

April 10: Cinema Wasteland Drive-in Era movie Expo day.
37: Cinema Wasteland.

38: Zombi 2

39: Zombi 2 cast live with Al Cliver, Richard Johnson, Ian McColloch, Ottaviano Dell’Acqua and Beatrice Ring (from Zombie 3)

40: Tales of 42nd Street with 42nd Street Pete.

April 11:
41: Savage Streets.. Linda Blair kicking ass and taking names.

42: King Kong vs Godzilla. Japanese version (I've seen the American Version). I loved Godzilla as a child. I think I'm over it. Interminable when the monsters aren't on screen.

43: Caged Heat.. Not bad, but not as good as I was hoping with Rainbeaux Smith and Barbara Steele together. Has its moments, though.

44: The Great Texas Dynamite Chase.. A masterpiece. Perfect Drive-in flick. It's what Moonrunners should have been. It's what Big Bad Mama should have been. While never a great film, it is exactly the type of film it is.

45: Six Thousand Dollar ******.. Unwatchable. The worst film yet.

46: Alice in Wonderland: An X-Rated Musical Fantasy. XXX Version. Cheesier than Cinderella but actually not that bad.

April 12:
47: The Fastest Guitar Alive.. Roy Orbison stars as a rebel spy trying to steal some gold to help the South war effort. Cheesy but some good songs from Roy.

48: Five Minutes To Live. Johnny Cash stars as a ruthless bank robber. Actually much better than I expected. Johnny Cash is believable as a killer. Before they were famous: Vic "Mel" Tayback, Rue McClanahan and early appearance of Ronnie Howard.

49: Not Quite Hollywood.. Wow. you must see this. This doc is a great companion to this challenge.

April 14:
50: Moonrunners. Precursor to the Dukes of Hazzard with most of the same characters, some with the same names. Could have been much better. Characters were generally unlikeable and film was unfunny. TV series was a vast improvement.

51: Myra Breckinridge. I don't think I've ever seen a film that made me as angry as this. I love camp, but this was an exercise in camp by people that had no concept of camp. It was about the most insulting feature I've ever seen. I'm sure it was intended to be funny, but I seriously couldn't tell where the jokes were. Not that they weren't funny (they weren't), but that there WERE no jokes. The only thing amusing was the clips of much funnier films that were supposed to be ironic counterpoints or underlines of the non-existent jokes in the film. I was reading about the film and Time magazine had the greatest review quote ever. "Myra Breckinridge is about as funny as a child molester. It is an insult to intelligence, an affront to sensibility and an abomination to the eye." And that isn't in a good way.

April 15:
52: Princess of Mars.. Asylum trash based upon the classic SF novel. Like a SYFY Channel movie. Plus, Traci Lords in Princess Leia's slave bikini.

53: Abby. The Black Exorcist.

54: Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song.

April 16:
55: Land That Time Forgot.. Saw it as a kid, might as well have been first viewing.

April 17:
56: Massacre Mafia Style
Better than I expected. A bit duplicitous, though. You can't decry stereotypes all the while indulging in them without irony.

57: Boss ******. Pretty good western, actually. A nice surprise.

58: The Long Swift Sword of Siegfried.

59: Kick Ass! Drive-in movie!

60: The Mechanic

April 18:
61: Cannibal Apocalypse

62: Let Me Die A Woman. Doris Wishman doc on sex changes. Graphic and sympathetic. Would have been nice if they would give you a warning before the surgery footage. They show a diagram and then whoa!

63: Marjoe. One of the great docs of all time. Marjoe was a child preacher who grew up and decided to let the world in on the phony exploits of evangelism. It is a revelation to see the inner workings of how congregations are exploited.

April 19:
64: Bruce Lee Against the Supermen.

April 20:
65: Electra Glide In Blue. HD. Wow, what a great film.

66: In The Year 2889. Dull remake of a 50s film. Bleah.

April 21:
67: The Incredible Melting Man

68: Night Call Nurses.

69: Beach Party.

70: Dr Goldfoot and the Girl Bombs.. I felt my IQ drop as I was watching it.

April 22: John Waters Day
71: Pink Flamingos

72: Female Trouble

73: Desperate Living

April 23:
74: Lone Wolf McQuade

75: Empire of the Ants. HD

April 24:
76: Beyond The Valley of the Dolls

77: Flesh for Frankenstein in 3-D

78: Santo vs Blue Demon in Atlantis

79: Cannibal Ferox

April 25:
80: Hell's Angels 1969

81: Up!

82: Putney Swope

April 26:
83: Sex And Buttered Popcorn

84: Jesus Camp

85: The Immoral Mr Teas

86: The Touch of her Flesh

April 27:
87: El Topo

88: Hercules (1983)

89: Chatterbox.

90: Wonderful Land of Oz (1969) More Barry Mahon crap.

April 28:
91: Viva Las Vegas

92: Blood of the Ninja

93: Tenabrae

94: Hollywood Boulevard

April 29:
95: The Gestapo's Last Orgy

Re: First Annual B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-in Movie Challenge ***Lists Go Here***

I'll be a casual participant this month. Like a few others, I'll admit I struggle at knowing what counts for this challenge. I'm fairly certain that the 4-movie-packs I got from Big Lots for just $4 each have to qualify. After I get through those, I'll probably just scan the other lists and see if I own titles others are using.

April 7
1. Final Shot: The Hank Gathers Story (1992)
2. Cracker: True Romance (1993)

April 9
3. How to Train Your Dragon (2010) -- at an actual drive-in.

April 12
4. Too Young to Die? (1990)

1st:
Trailers: Vice Squad, Chinese Hercules, Take A Hard Ride, Matango, Michelle, Horror of the Blood Monsters (W/ Brother Theodore voiceover. This guy's unreal)

*1. Angel (1984)-This movie could have gone a dozen ways (And maybe that's why 2 more sequels followed) and hopefully the Angel character will have more to prove in the future since she really doesn't do anything in this movie. But I was still pleased to get a rousing start to this marathon thanks to some sights involving:
-A seedy Hollywood Blvd.
-Shower scene with nekkid cheerleaders
-An amusing appearance by Susan Tyrell (Looks like she wandered in from a John Waters flick)
-A battle to the death between a hare krishna "Member" and a drag queen!
2. The Legend of ********** Charley (1972)-Although the direction is a little on the stale side and the script doesn't appear to be complete, this movie goes down in the history books for being the first film that got Fred Williamson's action career going. And yes, this movie does have a title-theme song.
3. The Soul of ********** Charley (1973)-Bigger budget. Bigger scale. Longer running-time....And slightly less racial slurs. I perferred this movie over "Legend" when I first saw it, but after now watching both movies back to back, I actually now like "Legend" a little more just because it flew by faster. No title-theme song this time around, but we do have Lou Rawls singing a couple of tunes.
4. Gambling with Souls (1936)-It was kinda different for once to see a an old Roadshow flick like this that was told in flashback, but there just isn't enough of the "Fun factor" to be found in a gambling/racketeering subject than in sex or drugs. Snoozer.
5. Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975) (English dubbed version)-Man, I used to always hold this one in high regard. But after re-watching it for the first time in about...12 years, I've obviously seen better entries since then. Still though, that accidental shot of Godzilla on fire is an awesome image.
--------------------------------------------
2nd:
Trailers: Substitution, Combat Cops, Queen of Outer Space, Burnt Offerings, The Last Round, The Dorm That Dripped Blood

6. Schoolgirl Hitchhikers (1973)-Ah, the days when I was certain that Jean Rollin could never make a good film. He eventually proved me wrong with his horror masterpieces, but what the hell was he thinking with this? This movie was more insane than I remembered.
*7. Chinese Hercules (1973)-I knew going in that Bolo was going to play more of a supporting role than the trailer/poster suggested, but I didn't think we would have to wait 50 minutes to see him!
*8. The Madmen of Mandoras (1963)-It's too bad that I didn't get to see the They Saved Hitler's Brain-version as I felt that would have been more entertaining. Yet, the sight of seeing Hitler's head in a jar is worth staying for.
*9. Burnt Offerings (1976)-I had previously seen the ending before, but something tells me I would've been letdown if I originally saw this in it's entirety.
--------------------------------------------
3rd:
Trailers: The Evil, She Demons, Dixie Dynamite, Trouble Man, 1990: The Bronx Warriors, Fast Company, The Crippled Masters

*10. The House Where Evil Dwells (1982)-Man, why can't today's Asian horror movies be like this anymore? I long for the days of playful, horny Japanese spirits and growling, cursing crabs!
*11. C.B. Hustlers (1976)-Boring sex comedy made during the trucker/CB radio-craze. Only Uschi made this watchable.
12. Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann (1982)-First time seeing this since it's original theatrical release! It's just about as hokey as I remembered (Fun idea, but the script sure comes up short) Never knew Mike Nesmith was involved with this film.
*13. Common Law Cabin (1967)-Since you rarely hear about this one when it comes to Russ Meyer's catalog, I didn't have a whole lot of high hopes for this. But it was a little bit better than I was expecting. At least I liked it more than the last Meyer film I saw, Good Morning/Goodbye.
14. Gone in 60 Seconds (1974)-This is the first time I've seen this from beginning to end. One day, I hope to be able to see this with the non-altered score/effects.
*15. Bruce Lee Fights Back from the Grave (1976)-In case you didn't know, this is just some crummy, chop-socky caper with a major-selling title. Good god, this was bad.
--------------------------------------------
4th:
Trailers: In Hot Blood, Virgin Sacrifice, Knightriders, Bootlegers, Street Gangs of Hong Kong, Dr. Black and Mr. Hyde (Forgot how great the voiceover-quotes are in this!)

16. A Sweet Sickness (1968)-I guess this was a little better on a 2nd viewing. Any movie with a psychadelic orgy sequence can never be that bad.
17. She Demons (1958)-Not as decent as I remembered. First half is pretty fun, but then the chatty nazi-villian stops the film dead in it's tracks.
*18. Big Bad Mama (1974)-Nude Shatner alert!
*19. Get Christie Love! (1974)-My first (And last) Tv-movie of this challenge. Incredibly dry as expected, but somehow I was never completely bored.
20. Sweet Georgia (1972)-Starts out like an ordinary okie sex romp, but ends in dark, nasty fashion. Did Marsha Jordan always look old?
--------------------------------------------
5th:
Trailers: The Head Mistress, Three on a Meathook, The One Armed Executioner, Zebra Force, Satan's Black Wedding, Confessions of a Psycho Cat

*21. The Monkey Hu$tle (1976)-Did David Bowie's "Fame" rip this soundtrack off? And I've never seen so many bare (Male) midriffs before.
*22. The Kid with the Golden Arm (1979)-Despite a weird twist near the end, this was certainly one of the better Shaw/Venom movies I've seen in a good long while.
*23. Street Law (1974)-Even though the action couldn't match with the opening 10-minutes, I still found this to be a solid vigilante flick.
*24. Shanks (1974)-Oddly intriguing little flick this was. I wasn't expecting it to be a zombie movie (Minus the flesh-eating, of course)
25. In Hot Blood (1968)-If you wanna check out a smutty, 60's roughie with Woody Allen narration, look no further!
--------------------------------------------
6th:
Trailers: Cannibal Girls, Humongous, Asylum, It's Alive, Blaze Starr Goes Nudist, Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, Elsa Fraulein SS

(Terror Tuesday Double-Feature)
*26. Empire of the Ants (1977)-Boring first half. Muddled last half. Good bad middle act.
*27. Final Exam (1981)-I think this singlehandedly killed off my interest in watching anymore slashers for this challenge. What a frickin' snoozefest.
28. Women of the World (1963)-This ran a little too long, but the thing that bugged me was that it seemed that only American and European women were capable of having "Real beauty". Goes to show that these Mondo movies continue to retain their shock value no matter what!
*29. Cry Uncle (1971)-Raunchy whodunit/comedy filmed by a future "Best Director" winner. Not that bad! Although the constant naked flesh provided by the lead actor (Who reminded me of Paul Giamatti) might turn off some viewers. Features early apperances by Paul Sorvino and Debbi Morgan (Somehow, she looks older here than she did in Monkey Hu$tle!) Oh yeah, and Lloyd Kaufman's somewhere in there. "Fuck the fucking!"
*30. Helltrain (1977)-Good lord. Just when I think I've seen the worst the nazisploitation genre has to offer, along comes this dandy. Not only does it use the extremely tired storyline of prostitutes-exposing-German officers (This is now the 4th movie I've seen that uses this device) but it was also the most tame film I've seen out of the most "In-Bad-Taste" genre. I can't wait to get back on track tomorrow.
--------------------------------------------
7th:
Trailers: Lightning Swords of Death, The Beast in Space, The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living And Became Mixed-Up Zombies, Mean Mother

*31. Rope and Skin (1979)-Decently sleazy outing in the Pinky Violence/Roman Porno subgenre. The eye-opening, perverted S&M moments won't even make you realize how short this movie actually is!
(Weird Wednesday Double-Feature)
*32. Glen or Glenda (1953)-Long worth the wait! Even though it looks like I saw a heavily-edited version according to what IMDB has listed, I still could not wipe the smile off my face throughout that entire dream sequence. Absolutely brilliant.
*33. Mondo Trasho (1969)-I'm not used to seeing a silent John Waters film (Not a completely silent film as there is a little bit of dialogue added in here & there) But I even found this strange by Waters' standards.
*34. Girls of the Road (1940)-Jeez, I understand that there could have been LOTS of female hitchhikers on the road in this country during the hippie days, but seeing so many in the 1940s is just....Odd. Anyways, this was another of those flicks that ended once something started to happen. Not a whole lot of exploitive things going on aside from a few brief catfights.
*35. Cool Breeze (1972)-Blaxploitation remake of The Asphalt Jungle. I've always been pretty big fan of John Huston's work, but I have to admit that his original film almost put me to sleep. And even though I was entertained by this (Flawed) remake, it just seemed to move way too fast. It also has one of THE most abrupt and inconclusive endings that I've ever seen.
--------------------------------------------
8th:
Trailers: Ms. 45, Enter The Ninja, The Mad Butcher, The Big Doll House, De Sade's Justine, Fascination, Pinocchio's Birthday Party, Please Don't Eat My Mother!

36. Revenge of the Ninja (1983)-This is the 3rd time I've seen this movie (In 3 decades) and only now do I realize how fun this flick can be! And bear in mind, I still haven't even seen the uncut version that's on DVD yet! (I've only had an old VHS copy of this that I picked up at a mom & pop store back in the late 90s)
37. Django Kill... If You Live, Shoot! (1967)-Hmmm. I used to be kind of an admirer for this one, but today's viewing made me think less of it. It felt very long and the "Where's the gold"-plot got too tiresome. At least the "Shock" scenes are still interesting to look at. BTW, Zorro's parrot has more dialogue in the english dub.
*38. Frankenhooker (1990)-Whoa. That's the 2nd movie in a row where I saw a character named Zorro. I've been slow to check out more of Henenlotter's stuff, but at least I still haven't been let down with anything of his. I just would've liked to have seen more of Franken-zabeth.
*39. The Escapees (1981)-*Sigh* It was bound to happen. I had been on a hot streak of Rollin films untill I ran into this one. Last 10 minutes were good, but way too little too late. I should've checked out more reviews before renting this.
*40. The Erotic Adventures of Pinocchio (1971)-Most reactions tend to be negative for this, but I didn't mind it actually. I liked it's flow and humor. Only the ending could have been extended and there should have been some more departures from a frequently-visited set...Even though I felt the art-direction was cutesy.
--------------------------------------------
9th:
Trailers: Skatetown USA, Seven Blows of the Dragon, G.I. Executioner, The Green Slime, Fugitive Girls, The Violent Years

41. Xanadu (1980)-Yes, it's bad. But not really as excrutiatingly bad as I was always lead to believe....Well now that I think about it, the songs/performances got progressively worse. Gonna have to change my vote.
42. Ferocious Monk of Shaolin (1974)-Starts out like a 36th Chamber rip-off (Even though this movie was released first) but a pretty decent confrontational-storyline begins between the new pupil (Who's like a gruffier version of Lo Lieh) and his "Big Brother". This just needed more crisp choreography.
*43. The Exterminator (1980)-I've seen the over-the-top sequel several times, but this was my 1st viewing of the original. I found it uneven, but still appreciated what the intentions were.
*44.The Incredible 2-Headed Transplant (1971)-I thought this would have (At least) been on par with "Thing w/ 2 Heads", but that didn't appear to be the case.
*45. Devil Dynamite (1987)-Any movie with a part-time, space-age futuristic hero battling hopping vampires and ninja vampires sounds like it should be good, right? It is, actually. But that only makes up for a total of 10 minutes of "Money shot" material. The rest is made up of the usual Godfrey Ho blender.
46. Barbed Wire Dolls (1975)-Can't believe it took me this long to finally check out a WIP! It's obviously not one of the best, but it's definetly one of the most scuzziest. Forgot how smokin' Martine Stedil is. She's like the slightly-younger version of Brigitte Lahaie.
*47. Five Minutes to Live (1961)-Though I was nodding off a bit (This tends to happen when I watch B&W movies around midnight) I was pleased with what I saw. Nice performance by Johnny Cash and there were a number of dark comedic moments that I just rarely see from a film of this time. It was also a trip seeing a much younger "Ronnie Howard".
--------------------------------------------
10th:
Trailers: The Bride and the Beast, The Return of Captain Invincible, Race With The Devil, Agony of Love, Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama

48. X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes (1963) (Watched w/ commentary on. Corman should lend his vocal talents for those relaxation tapes with that low, soft voice of his)
49. Monster Zero (1965) (English Dubbed version)
*50. Day of the Nightmare (1965)
*51. Tourist Trap (1979)
*52. Scream of the Butterfly (1965)
--------------------------------------------
11th:
*53. Black Brigade (1970)
*54. Day of the Panther (1988)
*55. Brain Twisters (1991)
*56. The Baron (1977)
--------------------------------------------
12th:

--------------------------------------------
13th:
57. Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion (1972)
(Terror Tuesday Double-Feature)
*58. Stanley (1972)
59. Death Walks at Midnight (1972) (English Dubbed version)
*60. Angels Hard as They Come (1971)-Seemed like a good idea on paper (Co-penned by Johnathan Demme) but the shaky, listless direction seems to plague all through the movie
--------------------------------------------
14th:
Trailers: Gammera the Invincible, Yakuza's Law, Skidoo, The Secret of Magic Island, Chappaqua, Killer Force, Man and His Woman, Hot Pants Holiday, The Italian Stallion

61. Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (1958)-Forgot how long this takes to get going. Once it does, it's over rather quickly. I'd still like to see the remake one of these days.
*62. Tattooed Hit Man (1974)-I liked the tacky narration, blood splatter, and the first half. Didn't really care for anything else. It's too bad New Line couldn't get the rights to some real badass Yakuza movies like Sympathy for the Underdog and Graveyard of Honor.
(Weird Wednesday Double-Feature)
63. Pick-up (1975)-After seeing it a 2nd time, this didn't feel as weird as it did before...Not that I'd still be quick to recommend it to Joe6pack, or anything. If you check out the official Myspace site for this movie, it explains stuff.
64. Electronic Lover (1970)-This may be my most "There's-just-something-about-it" movie out there for me. I really can't explain why this crazy flick is so hypnotic. One thing that I can safely say that's great about it is the soundtrack. Very rare to hear a consistently terrific score for this type of film....And what kind of film is this anyway?
65. The Road to Ruin (1934)-Slightly above average Roadshow "Morality Tale". The only thing that sets this one apart from the others is that it's got a tragic ending.
66. Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song (1971)-Watched it for the first time with captions on (They made a boo-boo with the lyric, "Blame" instead of "Bled" for one of the main songs) and I'm still waiting for Sweetback to collect those dues.
*67. Day of the Animals (1977)-What a pleasant surprise this was! A pretty good job at keeping the tension going and Leslie Nielson played a terrific @$$hole.
--------------------------------------------
15th:
Trailers: Mondo Bizzarro, The House By The Lake

68. Ecco (1963)-Agh! Forgot how brutal the human pin-cushion stuff is.
*69. Hitch-Hike (1977)-This wasn't too bad. But that sure was the most unusual-looking looking part of Southern California that I've ever seen.lol
--------------------------------------------
16th:
Trailers: Dragstrip Riot, Mission: Thunderbolt, Golden Ninja Warrior, The Ninja Squad, Shocking Asia, Last Days of Man on Earth, Suburban Wives

*70. Dragstrip Girl (1957)-Unlike Hot Rod Girl, the title character in this movie was actually intregal to the plot. I liked John Ashley's brief impression of Elvis.
*71. Ninja Terminator (1985)-Despite a confusing plot and no cyborg ninjas around, this was still entertainingly bad! Always a pleasure to hear some Pink Floyd on a Hong Kong action flick.
*72. In God We Tru$t (1980)-The trailer was featured on one of the 42nd Street Forever compilations, so I assumed this would qualify. Not a whole lot of laughs from me, but not terrible either.
73. Delinquent Girl Boss: Worthless to Confess (1971)-Though this is one of the more quiet and slower titles to be found in the Pinky Violence catalog, the finale is always guaranteed to wake you up big time.
*74. Turkey Shoot (1982)-After a number of disappointing or mediocre first-time viewings of movies for this challenge, it's good to finally run into something that delivered the fun goodies!
*75. Blue Summer (1973)-This seemed to suddenly end right when I finally got into the groove of things (Hate it when that happens) Another thing I hate are tanlines. Hopefully this will be the last I see of those.
76. Cave Dwellers (MST3K version)-"I'm the best lookin' man of the Middle Ages! My! My! My!"
--------------------------------------------
17th:
Trailers: The Toolbox Murders, Satan's Sadists, A Scream in the Streets, Bad Georgia Road, Up Your Alley, Savage Sisters, Hard Candy

*77. The Centerfold Girls (1974)-Wasn't expecting that much T&A and all those killings!
*78. Bobbie Jo and the Outlaw (1976)-This seemed kinda decent. My problem was that I watched this on a 'puter screen and the night-time sequences (Which seemed to come by the dozen) couldn't allow me to see anything.
*79. Cherry, Harry & Raquel! (1970)-It's hard for me to believe that Meyer's zany filming/editing-style has only given me a headache just one time (On Beneath/Ultra-vixens)
*80. Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (1952)-"Dukey"
81. Wildcat Women (1975)-I tried watching it in 3-D again (This time, on a different screen) but I still got the same crappy results. At least the movie flies by so darn fast that you never realize just how silly it really is!
82. Tell Them Johnny Wadd is Here (1976)-Always a pleasure to see a Johnny Holmes flick that features the soundtracks of various Leone Westerns. I also continue to be quite stunned by the looks of the ladies here. I'm just not used to seeing good looking gals like this in a 70's hardcore feature.
--------------------------------------------
18th:
Trailers: The Pack, Some Like It Violent, King *@#!! Frat, The Legend of Boggy Creek, Sting Of The Dragon Masters, Night Of The Bloody Apes, Savage!, Women in Cages

*83. Kingdom of the Spiders (1977)-I thought this would be too routine in the early going, but I appreciated the bleakness that started to occur towards the end.
*84. Caged (1950)-Same as above. This was another one that seemed to slowly build into something surprisingly hard-hitting. Didn't expect to see Agnes Moorehead make an appearance on this marathon!
*85. Norman... Is That You? (1976)-Similiar to In God We Trust in that this was another normal comedy thrown into the mix. But, again, it's trailer appeared on one of the 42nd Street volumes, so I included it. I didn't mind the film at all, but it's stage-play roots were definetly felt.
*86. The Capture of Bigfoot (1979)-It was good to finally run into an appearance by George "Buck" Flower for this challenge, but he still couldn't save this snoozer.
*87. Fist of Fury 3 (1979)-Eh, if there's one Bruce Li-sequel to check out, it's Chinese Connection 2. This had way too much drama and very little action.
*88. Shriek of the Mutilated (1974)-Wow, this was an odd one. It had the look and feel of an Andy Milligan film. But whenever the "Monster" showed up, it felt like I was watching a Ray Dennis Steckler film. That must mean that it can only be a Michael Findlay picture!
*89. Fighting Mad (1978)-This isn't the Peter Fonda film. Instead, it's the surprisingly badasss blaxpo/filipino/samurai-revenge gem from Cirio Santiago! I've never been a big lover of Santiago's work, but boy, he really comes close to hitting it out of the park with this one! Quite a bit of Kill Bill foreshadhowing here with someone being left for dead, gaining a samurai sword, out for revenge (Obviously) and a final showdown set in Mexico. I had a pretty good time with this baby!
*90. Ilsa, the Tigress of Siberia (1977)-Not that bad by Ilsa standards, but not that interesting overall. I noticed that Ilsa's "Demise" with each film got weaker & weaker.
--------------------------------------------
19th:
Trailers: Hell's Angels on Wheels,Tarzana-The Wild Girl, Feugo!, Devil's Garden, Chatterbox, Black Samurai, The Black Bunch

*91. Satan's Sadists (1969)-Wasn't expecting this movie to become one long chase sequence, but at least Al Adamson was able to able to make it count (Unlike a lot of his other mix-mash movies) I kinda dug the soundtrack too.
*92. Karzan, Jungle Lord (1972)-Complete dud.
*93. Black Emanuelle (1975)-Man, I had some difficulty telling Gabriele Tinti apart from the other dude. But Emanuelle was screwing both of them, so no big loss.
*94. Luana, the Girl Tarzan (1968)-A step-up from Karzan, but this still nothing worth chatting about.
*95. Deadly Weapons (1974)-At least Chesty seems to show a little more life here than in Double Agent 73. Doesn't Harry Reems remind anyone else of Daniel Plainview?
*96. Hot Potato (1976)-I was told that this was Black Belt Jones and The Three Stooges go to Thailand and that's pretty much what I got. I still ended up being slightly entertained somehow.
97. The Italian Stallion (1970)-I'm not sure which version I got stuck with. It's got Gail Palmer's name all over it and the re-scored disco soundtrack makes numerous appearances (Along with Kitty's dubbed-thoughtful voice), yet this is still the softcore version. Anyways, the dance sequences continue to be the main selling point for me....Along with Stallone's sexual grunts (Yup, they sound just the way you would imagine)
----------------------------------------------
20th:
Trailers: The Murder Gang, Martin, Horrors of the Black Museum, The Night Child, The Crawling Thing/Creature of Evil, Black Belly of the Tarantula, Seven Blood-Stained Orchids, The Killing Machine, Danish sex acts

*98. The Candy Snatchers (1973)-The first time I tried to watch this a few years ago, I ended up falling asleep. Things were different this time around. Although I'm not a fan of the look/sound of the film (It looks too much like a 70's TV episode to me) the humor and surprises eventually paid off.
(Terror Tuesday Double-Feature)
*99. Patrick (1978)-I think this is the longest movie I've watched so far for this marathon (It's even been said that the film was even much longer at one time) but the film never ever came close to dragging for me. Thumbsup.
*100. Nightmare in Wax (1969)-This was tough to get through because the audio was so badly muffled from a horrid transfer. Though I made it all the way to the end, I can't say it was a rewarding experience.
*101. Spasmo (1974)-It's understandable why this one doesn't get a whole lot of mention among giallo circles because it's a complicated (Also frustrating) mystery. A few return-viewings could eventually help out, but I'm in no hurry to revisit this yet.
102. Lightning Swords of Death (1972)-It's hard for me to believe, but I still haven't seen this Lone Wolf/Cub-installment in it's original, uncut subtitled format yet. One of these days.....
*103. Emmanuelle on Taboo Island (1976)-Very light on the eroticsm (Unless incest is your thing) and there's no one named Emmanuelle on this island. Kinda like Castaway meets Blue Lagoon. Nice music score.
----------------------------------------------
21st:
Trailers: Mantis in Lace, Birds Do it/ Bees Do it, A Boy And His Dog, The Seven Dwarfs to the Rescue, Raw Force, Dirty Duck, A Clockwork Blue, Satan's Bed, Invitation to Ruin

*104. Murder in a Blue World (1973)-This had some potential, but director Iglesia (As he did in Cannibal Man) once again slows the film down with long, dull chatty scenes.
*105. Human Lanterns (1982)-Not as twisted as I thought it would be. Some nice fight choreography towards the end, and what was a big revelation to me was that Lo Meng was actually fighting with a weapon! (If you've seen a lot his Venom-movies, he's always fighting with his bare hands)
(Weird Wednesday Double-Feature)
*106. The Pig Fucking Movie (1974)-The "Shit Eating Movie" was more like it. I've seen my share of Salo,Pink Flamingos, and Sweet Movie, but the turd-munching seen here succeeded in making my tummy turn. Poor piggies.
107. Forbidden Zone (1982)-There once was a time when I could only watch this movie under the influence of....Something(s). Times have changed, but this movie has not. It's still brilliant and lovable as hell for me. And clocking at only 79 minutes, it's now my 2nd-most favorite shortest movie ever (After Freaks)
*108. Robo Vampire (1988)-I guess I'll never be able to make sense out of a Godfrey Ho movie. At least this wasn't as excrutiating as my last-viewed movie of his (Devil's Dynamite) and I'm already completely sick of those Chinese hopping vampires.
*109. Tarzoon-Shame of the Jungle (1975)-The first 40-or-so minutes were decently amusing enough, but man, those last 25 minutes spent in the Phallus Factory was unbelievable. I think I may finally have my most favorite adult toon of the 70's right here.
110. Nude For Satan (1974) (English Dubbed Version)-I forgot how this ended when I watched it for this 2nd viewing. If you've seen the movie, you probably wouldn't be surprised at that statement due to the funkiness of this movie.
111. The Toy Box (1971)-For me, the movie begins at the 20-minute mark when our leading characters enter the house of "Uncle". It still remains an odd ride from there on out. My only complaint about the movie is the inserted-dubbing during the sex scenes even though the actors/actresses CLEARLY aren't saying anything. There's a couple other Harry Novak productions that I've seen do this.
----------------------------
22nd:
(I actually had a bunch of lengthy comments for all these movies, but they all got lost in the database error earlier. EDIT-alright, I'll try to remember what I typed)

Trailers: Mark of the Devil, Snuff, Private House of the SS, Make Them Die Slowly, I Spit On Your Grave, Nine Lives of a Wet Pussy

112. Cut-Throats Nine (1972)-I still like this movie for the gore (Great for early 70's standards) and the plot (Great concept) but the suspense is badly lost in it's last half hour. Remake, anyone?
113. Zero Woman-Red Handcuffs (1974)-I like how the cops are just about as ruthless as the thugs are in this. Some can complain that the title character (The smokin' Miki Sugimoto) doesn't really do too much, but James Bond didn't do a whole lot in Goldfinger and that's still the most beloved James Bond movie. So what gives?
114. SS Camp-Women's Hell (1977)-It's really tasteless to see authentic holocaust footage incorporated into a B-flick like this. But once you lay eyes on the Pam Grier-clone, you have to remind yourself how this isn't supposed to be taken seriously.
115. Tenement (1985)-Everytime I watch this movie, I try and try to find some extra cheesiness from this movie to try to enlighten the experience, but to my great surprise, that doesn't ever to seem to really happen. Or at least it seems to wear off very quickly. Congrats to Roberta Findlay on finding a way to continue to make this a very relentless 90-something minutes.
116. Thriller-Cruel Picture (English Dubbed version)-I think this is the first time I've watched this entirely in english (The dubbed-grieving parents sound good actually, but Tony's agonizing screams at the end are nowhere to be heard. Booo.) As much as I still like this movie, I still can't help but to fast forward through Frigga's sloooo-mo fight with the cops.
*117. Summer in the City (1976)-If you go to IMDB, the trivia section has Tarantino saying that this is the "Best porno ever". Plus, I always heard that this was one of the more roughest films of it's kind. Well, I didn't really see too much that backed those statements up. The thing I liked most about it was the (Highly-likely unauthorized) 60's soundtrack.
----------------------------
23rd:
Trailers: Teaserama, Raiders of Atlantis, Amazon Jail

*118. Mondo Topless (1966)-Might've liked this a little more if a lot of those girls didn't look the same.
*119. The New Barbarians (1982)-I've been really slow to catch up on these post-apocalyptic flicks, but I felt I got a good start with this one! M16 rifles that shoot...Lasers? Cars that sound like....Vaccum cleaners? And a torture moment that I did not see coming...Or anyone else for that matter, I'm sure!
*120. Women in Fury (1985)-This is the 3rd South American WiP I've seen and the 3rd one in a row that has the jailmates revolting and escaping from the prison much too early. (Do the filmmakers think that the audiences down there would get too bored to see an entire film set in jail or something?) Aside from that, this turned out to be the best of those three.
----------------------------
24th:
Trailers: Cinderella 2000, Orgy of the Damned, Circle of Iron

121. Cinderella (1977)-Ah, this was my first Skinemax movie! I haven't seen it since the 80's, but I definetly like it more now than I did back then. Unlike Alice in Wonderland (Which I hope to catch next week) the songs here are catchy and more intelligable. This is also the hottest I've ever seen Cheryl "Rainbeaux" Smith look.
*122. Dance Hall Racket (1953)-Truthfully, I wasn't fully into this. But what caught my attention was the risque material (No surprise that this print had the touch of an editor's scissors)
----------------------------
25th:
Trailers: Johnny Firecloud, The Student Teachers

*123. Angry Joe Bass (1976)-Rashomon meets "Injunsploitation" with terrible results. Strange, odd, dull and confusing. At least this had a title-character theme song. I haven't heard one of those in this marathon for a while.
*124. Sin, You Sinners (1963)-It seemed to take a while for a storyline to emerge. Once it did, it didn't turn out too bad. I was surprised at some of the risk-taking that this film did (Along with it's 2nd feature, Dance Hall Racket.
----------------------------
26th:
Trailers: Gone With The Pope, Creampuffs, Let Me Die a Woman, Savage Streets

*125. Massacre Mafia Style (1978)-I thought this wouldn't live up to the hype in the early going, but it seemed to gradually get a little better. I was surprised that Michell's long-winded speeches were actually my most favorite moments of the movie.
*126. Emanuelle in the Country (1978)-The most comical (Albiet, very unfunny) Gemser-film I've seen yet. Gemser sure resembled Jordana Brewster in this one.
127. Female Chauvinists (1976)-Very low-rent sexcapade farce...But I still love it! However,I bet I would even love it more if I saw a more pristine print of the original X version, Instead of this badly-detoriated copy I've got with the hardcore inserts.
*128. Fear City (1984)-lol, I like this trivia fact at IMDB:
" The film was originally made by 20th Century-Fox, but they decided that it had too much nudity, sex, violence and drug references for them, so they sold it to the independent Aquarius Releasing."
That's pretty much what we're going for in this challenge, right? The movie was just ok. The cheesy showdown at the end was just what I needed.
----------------------------
27th:
Trailers: Autopsy (Damn, I wanna see this!), Werewolves on Wheels, The Town That Dreaded Sundown, The House on the Edge of the Park, Delinquent Schoolgirls

(Terror Tuesday Double-Feature)
*129. Chopper Chicks in Zombietown (1989)-For me, this actually came pretty close to being a classic (Of it's kind) Always knew about Billy Bob being in this, but not Gretchen Palmer
*130. Terror on the Beach (1973)-I should've known by seeing Dennis Weaver that this was a made-for-tv movie. It started out okay, but soon became very pedestrian.
*131. Sometime Sweet Susan (1975)-Agh! The return of tanlines! It was strange, for once, to see a sex-filled film that took itself soo seriously. I admired that, but I still got a little restless towards the end. Thank god for the short-running time.
*132. Devil in Miss Jones (1973)-Not that bad at all. It was cool to (Once again) hear a theme from Once Upon A Time In The West make an appearance in one of the classic xxx titles. I Just would've liked a little more closure on the end.
----------------------------
28th:
Trailers: The Monster of Piedras Blancas, Tom Thumb, When Women Had Tails

*133. Curse of the Crying Woman (1963)-A major step-up from the other two Casa Negra releases I watched a while back (Man/Monster,Witch's Mirror) Good pacing all throughout and delicious gothic-horror imagery.
*134. The Mighty Gorga (1969)-Gotta love a movie that has toy dinosaurs doubling as gigantic monsters....Or maybe not.
*135. One Million AC/DC (1969)-The return of more toy dinosaurs doubling as gigantic monsters. Only this time, lots of T&A were thrown into the mix. This was obviously more to my liking.
----------------------------
29th:
Trailers: Master of the Flying Guillotine, The Magnificent Butcher, Sweet Sugar, Super Dude, 2069: A Sex Odyssey

*136. Mad Monkey Kung Fu (1979)-Another extremely solid outing delivered by (And starring) Lau Kar Leung. I've never took notice of Hou Hsiao before (Even though he's appeared in a LOT of Lau's movies) but what an astonishing acrobat he is. My only gripe with the movie is that it's just a tad bit long.
*137. Give Us Our Daily Sex (1979)-Slightly better storyline than my last-viewed Gemser movie. I always thought she played a nun in this, but she's a nurse.
*138. Crazed (1978)-ZZzzzzz. The only thing that I liked about this was an early appearance by Epic Bearded Man.
*139. The Candy Tangerine Man (1975)-Could've been better, but I still liked it. I remember that a DVD-release from Subversive Cinema was said to be in the works, but that never materialized. A shame because I know that there are a lot of fans out there who might love what they see with this.
140. Alice In Wonderland: An Adult Musical Comedy (1976)-I had planned to watch the soft-core edit for comparison's sake, but it looks like the hardcore cut was just irresistible The movie did seem to be quite a bit better to me on a 2nd viewing though.
----------------------------
(Gonna watch a bunch of most-favorites today)
30th:
Trailers: Fight For Your Life, Breaking Point, Sugar Hill, Bury Me An Angel, Grand Theft Auto

141. Walking Tall (1973)
142. Compañeros (1970)
143. Rolling Thunder (1977)
144. Death Race 2000 (1975)
145. Kiss of Death (1973)-Watched it for the first time with the English Dub on. This track didn't have Floyd's "Careful with that axe, Eugene"

*First time viewing

Re: First Annual B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-in Movie Challenge ***Lists Go Here***

4/1/10

1) 42nd Street Forever: Volume 4 (2009) {IMDb User Rating: 8.3/10 28 votes} Decided to start the Challenge off with some trailers.
2) Coach (1978) {IMDb User Rating: 4.5/10 197 votes} A basketball movie with Keenan Wynn as the villain, but, sadly, no Flubber in sight. Cathy Lee Crosby plays a thirtysomething high school basketball coach who sleeps with a thirtyish teenage student. The trailer was on the 42nd St. compilation, so I figured I might as well use that connection and start on one of my unwatched Crown International sets.
3) Cavegirl (1985) {IMDb User Rating: 3.2/10 234 votes} About the only thing that made this watchable was pretending that it was a prequel to Lost, and that the Dharma Initiative had sent Dr. Arzt back to the stone age.
4) Jocks (1986) {IMDb User Rating: 2.4/10 313 votes} Richard Roundtree plays the coach of a team of misfit college tennis players playing a tournament in Vegas. Christopher Lee was in there too. I would've thought a movie with Shaft and Dracula in it would be better than that.
5) My Tutor (1983) {IMDb User Rating: 4.7/10 850 votes} Sex comedy about a rich kid's French tutor who teaches him more than French. Kevin McCarthy plays the kid's dad and Crispin Glover plays his best friend. I'd seen this one before. Decent flick.
6) The Pom Pom Girls (1976) {IMDb User Rating: 5.2/10 233 votes} Not a lot going on in this one. It did have Rainbeaux Smith and Robert Carradine in it, so it had that going for it at least. I was almost half way through the version in the Too Cool for School Collection before I figured out/remembered that that was the chopped up copy missing the female nudity. Luckily the one in Drive-In Cult Classics Vol. 3 is the uncut (albeit open matte) version from the Starlite Drive-In sets, so I switched over to it.

4/2/10

7) The Girl on a Motorcycle (1968) {IMDb User Rating: 5.0/10 720 votes} Marianne Faithfull dons a leather catsuit and rides a motorcycle around France and Germany. Through her narrative thoughts and flashbacks we learn about her not too interesting life. It was kind of like watching a stranger's forty year old vacation movies, with an occasional boob or psychedelic effect randomly thrown in just to see if you're still paying attention.
8) Pink Angels (1971) {IMDb User Rating: 4.8/10 70 votes} Six gay bikers travel to a drag ball in Los Angeles. I really don't think they had a script when they were shooting this one. There were a few funny moments, but it definitely wasn't worth sitting through the whole thing to get to them.
9) Satan's Sadists (1969) {IMDb User Rating: 3.1/10 402 votes} Russ Tamblyn plays the leader of a group of rape, murder, and motorcycle enthusiasts who chase two witnesses across the California desert following some raping and murdering at an out-of-the-way diner. Full of bad acting, had no production values, and was directed by Al Adamson. So it did have its merits.
10) Chrome and Hot Leather (1971) {IMDb User Rating: 5.0/10 143 votes} After his fiancee is killed by a member of a motorcycle gang (led by B Movie staple, William Smith), a soldier on leave, a couple of his buddies, and Marvin Gaye buy some Kawasakis and form their own gang to seek revenge. I'd seen this one before, and it's every bit as much goofy fun as I remembered.

4/3/10

11) The Mini-Skirt Mob (1968) {IMDb User Rating: 4.1/10 151 votes} While on a honeymoon camping trip, a rodeo star and his new wife are terrorized by his nutty ex-girlfriend and her sleazy friends. A great cast chock-full of character actors. A great ending. This movie was way better than it had any right to be.
12) The House Where Evil Dwells (1982) {IMDb User Rating: 4.0/10 270 votes} Doug McClure helps an American couple and their daughter rent a haunted house in Japan. Susan George flashed her Dirty Maries in a couple of love scenes. Other than that there wasn't a whole lot going on in this one.
13) The Return of Chandu (1934): Chapter 1: "The Chosen Victim" / Chapter 2: "The House in the Hills" / Chapter 3: "On the High Seas" / Chapter 4:"The Evil Eye" {IMDb User Rating: 6.0/10 117 votes} Chandu, the Magician (Bela Lugosi in one of his rare good guy roles), battles a cult that's out to kidnap and sacrifice a princess. I thought I'd seen a few chapters of this before, but so far nothing looks familiar. It's entertaining enough, but I don't know that I would've gone out of my way to return to the theater week after week to keep up with it.
14) The Return of Chandu (1934): Chapter 5: "The Invisible Circle" / Chapter 6: "Chandu's False Step" / Chapter 7: "Mysterious Magic" / Chapter 8:"The Edge of the Pit" {IMDb User Rating: 6.0/10 117 votes} More of the same. The Princess gets kidnapped and Chandu tracks her to the island she was taken to.
15) The Return of Chandu (1934): Chapter 9: "The Terror Invisible" / Chapter 10: "The Crushing Rock" / Chapter 11: "The Uplifted Knife" / Chapter 12:"The Knife Descends" {IMDb User Rating: 6.0/10 117 votes} Chandu's still on the island battling the bad guys, trying to save the princess. Things picked up a little at the end. The cliffhangers were better in these later chapters, and there were a couple of pretty good scenes. It certainly wasn't one of the better serials I've seen, but overall it wasn't too bad.

4/4/10

16) Kottentail (2004) {IMDb User Rating: 5.1/10 106 votes} Animal rights activists release a stuffed rabbit from a lab. The rabbit bites a local farmer, who then turns into a monster that hops around killing people. The filmmakers were obviously reveling in their no budget, Z Movie effort, and it started out pretty funny, but quickly overstayed its welcome.
17) J.C. (1972) {IMDb User Rating:} Pot smokin', motorcycle ridin' J.C. quits his carpentry job, and tells his hippie friends that he's seen the "Giant Winkin' Eye Up In the Sky" and it told him they need to go "spread love and teach peace" around the world. So they leave Atlanta and go to his hometown in Alabama to visit his sister. There they run into Sheriff Slim Pickens (how'd they get him in their little movie?) who isn't too happy to see that old J.C. brought a "colored boy" along with him.
18) Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter (2001) {IMDb User Rating: 5.2/10 2,219 votes} It's obvious the filmmakers were fans of the sort of movies we're celebrating this month (what with all the Kung Fu, Mexican wrestlers, and lesbian vampires). Unfortunately, the concept was much better than the execution. A few amusing moments, but not much else.

4/5/10

19) Mondo Balordo (1964) {IMDb User Rating: 4.3/10 69 votes} Surprisingly tame "documentary," narrated by Boris Karloff, that explores prostitution, bondage shows, animals killing animals, people killing animals, transvestites, lesbians, female wrestlers, voyeurism, and some other stuff. There's really nothing here you couldn't see on basic cable these days. About all it has going for it is Karloff, who could've read the phone book and made it sound interesting.
20) Mondo Bizarro (1966) {IMDb User Rating: 5.0/10 69 votes} You could tell where this one was coming from right at the start, thanks to the opening credits showing over women trying on lingerie (supposedly shot through a two-way mirror). Subjects covered in this "documentary" included topless voodoo rituals, "special" massages, Frederick's of Hollywood, Vietnam War protests and counter-protests, teens on Spring Break, and a sex-slave auction.
21) Mondo Freudo (1966) {IMDb User Rating: 4.7/10 57 votes} This one was a little slower getting where it was going. It took six or seven minutes to get to the boobs. Subjects covered included teens aimlessly driving around in cars, strippers, topless watusi dancers, body painting, Tijuana sex-slaves, prostitutes, a topless black mass, and mud wrestling.
22) Mondo Topless (1966) {IMDb User Rating: 4.4/10 452 votes} Here Russ Meyer drops all the extraneous crap and cuts to the chase. 60 minutes of quick shots of transistor radios and reel to reel tape players cut between longer scenes of topless women dancing, wiggling, jiggling, bouncing, and/or skipping about indoors and out while generic rock music, intense narration, and inane voice-overs from the girls (discussing their turn ons and turn offs) fill the soundtrack.

4/6/10

23) Wild Gals of the Naked West (1962) {IMDb User Rating: 4.2/10 213 votes} Russ Meyer western comedy. Or maybe it was supposed to be a comedy western. Either way it sucked. I was going to watch Russ Meyer films all day today, but this shitfest turned me off of that idea. Even a Doris Wishman film sounds good right about now.
24) Nude on the Moon (1961) {IMDb User Rating: 4.0/10 280 votes} After inheriting his late uncle's fur fortune, rocket scientist, Jeff, and his rocket scientist friend, the Professor, use the money to build a rocket. Then they fly to the moon, where they find trees, grass, gold moon rocks, and telepathic, shirtless moon people. I've seen this one before, but it's the first time I watched the DVD.
25) Gentlemen Prefer Nature Girls (1962) {IMDb User Rating: 4.0/10 11 votes} Another Doris Wishman nudist camp classic. Tom, a card carrying member of the American Nudists Association (not sure I want to know where he carries that card), accidently drops his membership card at work. Mr. Bennett, his boss, finds the card and fires him. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, but there's some nekkid archery, nekkid swimmin', nekkid volleyball, and nekkid accordion playin' involved.

4/7/10

26) Hunk (1987) {IMDb User Rating: 3.7/10 448 votes} A nerd makes a deal with an employee of the devil to transform him into a rich celebrity in exchange for his soul. Not much of a movie, but better than I thought it would be, thanks to the presence of James Coco, Avery Schreiber, and Robert Morse.
27) My Chauffeur (1986) {IMDb User Rating: 5.0/10 692 votes} E.G. Marshall hires a young woman to work as a chauffeur at his limo service, which upsets the other chauffeurs and their boss, Howard Hesseman. Some mildly entertaining events take place, then Penn & Teller show up to pad out the film's run-time. I thought I'd seen this one before, but either it was so long ago or the film was so forgettable (probably both) that I can't say I remembered any of it. Maybe I'd just caught part of it on cable.
28) The Van (1977) {IMDb User Rating: 3.9/10 329 votes} After his high school graduation, Bobby buys a van (complete with waterbed, mirrored ceiling, mag wheels (four), refrigerator, CB, pop-up toaster, drink rack, 8 track player, television, fog lights, a closet, and more!) hoping it'll help him with the ladies. I first saw this one on cable back in the '70s, and I've seen it a few times since. I was going to skip it since the last time I watched it wasn't that long ago, but I saw on IMDb that it shares a few characters with Malibu Beach, so I decided to go ahead and watch it again. I still enjoyed it. Though that may be largely due to nostalgia.
29) Malibu Beach (1978) {IMDb User Rating: 4.2/10 150 votes} A group of teens drink beer, smoke pot, and hang out at the beach during summer vacation. I'm pretty sure I saw this one on cable back in the '70s (or maybe early '80s) also, but I haven't seen it since. Okay for what it is. Returning from The Van: Dugan (same actor, same character) who is no longer dating Sally and is no longer into the van scene (he now rides a motorcycle) but who still seems to enjoy harassing recent high school graduates, and two of Bobby's coworkers from the car wash (same actors, but they weren't named here) who apparently bought the green van that was wrecked twice in the earlier film.

4/8/10

30) Dusk to Dawn Drive-In Trash-o-Rama Show Vol. 2 (1996) {IMDb User Rating: 3.1/10 10 votes} SWV trailer compilation. It's the beginning of the second week of the Challenge, so I decided to start off with some trailers.
31) Invasion of the Bee Girls (1973) {IMDb User Rating: 4.9/10 748 votes} William Smith is a government agent investigating a series of deaths in a town near a government lab. The trailer was on the SWV compilation, so I figured I might as well use that connection and watch some more of my unwatched Midnite Movies DVDs. I'd seen this movie before, just hadn't watched the DVD.
32) Invasion of the Star Creatures (1962) {IMDb User Rating: 2.6/10 148 votes} Sex comedy without the sex. Or the comedy. Two alien chicks (Dr. Puna and Prof. Tanga - nudge, nudge, wink, wink) living in the Batcave are studying Earth to see if it's ripe for invasion. They capture two Army dolts and not a lot happens for what feels like a very long time.
33) Ghost of Dragstrip Hollow (1959) {IMDb User Rating: 4.1/10 157 votes} After losing their garage clubhouse, a group of teen hot rodders moves into an old "haunted" mansion. Appealing B Movie has no stars (just mostly AIP vets) in the cast, but does feature a few hot rods and several plugs for the movie's rock 'n' roll soundtrack.

4/9/10

34) The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini (1966) {IMDb User Rating: 2.7/10 425 votes} Recently deceased Boris Karloff is told by his long-dead girlfriend that he has to perform a good deed within 24 hours so he can "go upstairs." For his good deed, he decides he wants to ensure that his shyster lawyer, Basil Rathbone, doesn't steal his fortune from his rightful heirs, Patsy Kelly and Tommy Kirk. Lots of music, lots of girls in bikinis, Nancy Sinatra, Jesse White, and even Harvey Lembeck (playing Eric Von Zipper yet again) all add to the fun in this beach picture in a haunted house.
35) Angel (1984) {IMDb User Rating: 5.1/10 850 votes} Angel is a high school honor student by day, Hollywood hooker by night. A serial killer begins murdering Hollywood hookers, putting Angel's life in jeopardy. I almost had to wonder if Dick Shawn paid to be in this film, because he looked like he was having far too much fun for it to count as work. I saw this on cable a year or two after it was released, but hadn't watched it since. It certainly wasn't a great film, but I liked it.
36) Avenging Angel (1985) {IMDb User Rating: 3.9/10 400 votes} Hoping to make a lateral career move from Hollywood hooker to attorney, Angel is now in college. She also appears to have had a boob job and plastic surgery because now she looks like Betsy Russell. I've seen worse.

4/10/10

37) Five Minutes to Live (1961) {IMDb User Rating: 6.1/10 176 votes} Johnny Cash and Vic Tayback are a coupla hoods out to rob a bank. Mel goes to the bank to meet up with bank executive Donald Woods (who I'm sure I've seen in several films, but immediatley recognized as the dad in 13 Ghosts), while Johnny breaks into the banker's house to play guitar and hold the banker's wife hostage until they get the money (something about that robbery plot sounded familiar to me, then it dawned on me that a dozen years later two crooks pulled the same thing to rob a grocery store in
Spoiler:
Dirty Mary Crazy Larry).
This was one of Cash's first acting jobs, and it's easy to tell. He must've taken some lessons soon after because he did get a lot better at it.

38) SOS Coast Guard (1937): Chapter One: "Disaster at Sea" / Chapter Two: "Barrage of Death" / Chapter Three: "The Gas Chamber" / Chapter Four:"The Fatal Shift" {IMDb User Rating: 5.9/10 83 votes} Republic serial with no built-in comic book or radio show audience instead had to rely on its stars Bela Lugosi and Ralph Byrd, lots of action, and some half-way decent special effects to keep 'em coming back week-after-week. Mad scientist Lugosi invents a "disintegrating gas." When the chemicals he needs to produce the gas are lost in a shipwreck, he has to try to recover them. It's up to the Coast Guard to stop him.

4/11/10

39) SOS Coast Guard (1937): Chapter Five: "The Mystery Ship" / Chapter Six: "Deadly Cargo" / Chapter Seven: "Undersea Terror" / Chapter Eight:"The Crash!" {IMDb User Rating: 5.9/10 83 votes} More Bela Lugosi vs. the U.S. Coast Guard. More fistfights. More underwater action. Chapter Eight ended with a pretty good car chase that would've had me back the following week just to watch it again.

4/12/10

40) SOS Coast Guard (1937): Chapter Nine: "Wolves at Bay" / Chapter Ten: "The Acid Trail" / Chapter Eleven: "The Sea Battle" / Chapter Twelve: "The Deadly Circle"{IMDb User Rating:} More fistfights. More underwater action. More gunfights. More chases (on land and sea). Those Republic guys really knew how to make serials.
41) Angel III: The Final Chapter (1988) {IMDb User Rating: 4.8/10 177 votes} Angel's back, with another new body, another new face, and another new job (this time she's a photographer working for Dick Miller). After her long-missing mother shows up, then blows up, Angel goes back undercover to find her sister that she didn't know she had. Richard Roundtree's in this one for about a minute or two.
42) Tomboy (1984) {IMDb User Rating: 3.8/10 342 votes} Betsy Russell plays Tommy Boyd, a female mechanic who likes to ride around on motorcycles when she isn't working on cars. This is another one I saw on cable back in the '80s, but hadn't seen since. Pretty silly, but not a bad flick. Betsy Russell is certainly easy on the eyes, and she's once again allowed to show off her, uhm, talents, which she had so memorably displayed in Private School, but had failed to put forth in Avenging Angel.
43) Weekend Pass (1984) {IMDb User Rating: 2.9/10 152 votes} Four sailors spend a weekend in Los Angeles. Aside from the requisite tits, Phil Hartman telling some really bad jokes, and some hilariously goofy '80s dance moves, there's not much to see here.
44) Weekend with the Babysitter (1970) {IMDb User Rating: 1.5/10 354 votes} A middle-aged Hollywood director spends a weekend smoking a joint, watching people ride around a motorcross track, sleeping with his kid's hippie babysitter, and flying around in his plane. Meanwhile his junkie wife spends her weekend hanging out on a boat with her dealer.

4/13/10

45) The Babysitter (1969) {IMDb User Rating: 5.4/10 57 votes} A middle-aged lawyer and his wife hire a babysitter to watch the recent surprise addition to their family. After the old folks leave, the babysitter invites a band and some strippers over for a party in the couple's basement play room. Later the old guy drives the babysitter home and they hit it off. Soon the girlfriend of a biker being prosecuted for murder, looking to blackmail the lawyer using his lesbian daughter, stumbles upon his affair with the babysitter. I guess I watched these last two films in reverse order. Weekend with the Babysitter was written by, produced, and starred the guy who wrote, produced, and starred in this film, and, although his characters in the films are different, the babysitters, while played by different actresses, have the same name, so I suppose it could be seen as a sequel to this one.
46) Single Room Furnished (1968) {IMDb User Rating: 4.5/10 111 votes} Jayne Mansfield's last film. Interminable, talky low budget drama that I suppose qualifies here due to the exploitative nature of it being completed and released after her death.
47) Van Nuys Blvd (1979) {IMDb User Rating: 5.1/10 125 votes} Crown International vet Bill Adler jumps in his beat up van and goes to Van Nuys Blvd because, well, just because I guess. Then there are a coupla scenes of cars cruising Van Nuys Blvd, a few sex scenes in the back of a van or three, some van drag racing, someone's home movies from Magic Mountain, and I'm pretty sure some stuff happens at the beach. It looks like they had some leftover film and a few actors with nothing to do between Crown International movies, so they threw this together.

4/14/10

48) Van Nuys Blvd (1979) with commentary Listened to the commentary by writer/director William Sachs. He said Crown wanted the movie right away to take advantage of some craze, so he wrote the script, shot the film, and it was in the Drive-Ins a few months after he got the assignment. He talks about the list of "rules" Crown gave him for the film;
Spoiler:
there had to be "a certain number of this type of scene, a certain amount of nudity," and since it was a Drive-In movie "everything had to be bright, so people could see it at the Drive-In," and the producer "always has to have the lead character named Bobby." Favorite comment: "I'd like to get into some of the technical stuff here, but there really isn't any. We just shot it. Just lit it, and shot it."

49) Hollywood's World of Flesh (1963) {IMDb User Rating: 8.6/10 5 votes} Through the use of "hidden cameras," this "documentary" explores Hollywood's slightly seedier side.

4/15/10

50) Sexy Proibitissimo (The Most Prohibited Sex) (1963) {IMDb User Rating: 2.6/10 6 votes} Scene after scene of strippers taking off period costumes. To anyone interested in identifying/locating the source films for clips included as extras on SWV/Image DVDs: the "Moon Strip" (aka "Cosmic Striptease") extra on Nude on the Moon is from this film.

4/16/10

51) Dusk to Dawn Drive-In Trash-o-Rama Show Vol. 8 (2002) {IMDb User Rating: (awaiting 5 votes)} Another SWV trailer compilation. Was going to watch this yesterday, but didn't get around to it.
52) 42nd Street Forever: Volume 4 (2009) with commentary Since commentaries count now, I figured I'd revisit this and finish it up. Fangoria editor Michael Gingold, film historian Chris Poggiali, and AV Maniacs editor Edwin Samuelson talk about the films. Unfortunately they're limited by the length of the trailers, so they sometimes rush through their comments or end up talking over the next trailer.
53) No Greater Sin (1941) {IMDb User Rating: 6.2/10 6 votes} Before going over to MGM and facing off against enemies like Nick and Nora Charles or Phillip Marlowe, Leon Ames had to battle the scourge of syphilis. This film seemed awfully familiar to me, but I know I hadn't watched that DVD before.

4/17/10

54) Brotherhood of Death (1976) {IMDb User Rating: 5.0/10 173 votes} Three Vietnam vets return to their backwoods home, start a voter registration drive, and klash with the Klan. Not bad for what it was. Plus I learned that Klansmen don't applaud at meetings: They snap their fingers like pot smoking, coffee sipping beatniks at a basement poetry reading.
55) One Down Two to Go (1982) {IMDb User Rating: 4.3/10 165 votes} After mobsters screw them out of some cash, shoot them, and/or beat them up, Jim Kelly and Richard Roundtree call for some help from old friends Jim Brown and Fred Williamson. Should've been better with that cast, but not too bad.
56) One Down Two to Go (1982) with commentary Producer/writer/actor/director Fred Williamson talks about his life and making movies.
57) Friday Foster (1975) {IMDb User Rating: 5.7/10 378 votes} Pam Grier is Friday Foster, ex-model turned photojournalist, who, along with P.I. Yaphet Kotto, has to solve an attempted assassination and a murder or two.

4/18/10

58) Swamp Girl (1971) {IMDb User Rating: 5.4/10 51 votes} After an escaped convict and her boyfriend run off into the swamp and kidnap Swamp Girl, it's up to Singing Swamp Ranger Ferlin Husky to save the day.
59) Swamp Country (1966) {IMDb User Rating: 5.0/10 32 votes} After he's wrongly accused of murder, Dave, a chubby older guy, runs off into the swamp with Sheriff Rex Allen and his deputy, Lyle Waggoner, in not-so-hot pursuit.
60) Across 110th Street (1972) {IMDb User Rating: 6.9/10 1,265 votes} Anthony Quinn is a middle-aged, racist detective working in Harlem who is teamed with Yaphet Kotto to solve a robbery/murder.

4/19/10

61) The Girl Grabbers (1968) {IMDb User Rating: (awaiting 5 votes)} A greasy hippie and his fish lipped, Mr. Limpet lookalike buddy break into a woman's apartment and assault her. Then her boyfriend plays detective and tracks them down. I was amused to hear a little of the following piece of canned library music (which may be familiar to some) used in the climactic scene of this film.
<object width="200" height="200"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UvIc-jmj3JY&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UvIc-jmj3JY&hl=en_US&fs=1&rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="200" height="200"></embed></object>
62) A Taste of Flesh (1967) {IMDb User Rating: 7.4/10 15 votes} Two would-be assassins break into an apartment across the street from their target's hotel and hold three women hostage overnight. There's lots of people talking offscreen or with their backs to the camera. and lots of random, lingering cutaway shots of furniture, lamps, knick knacks, and kitchen appliances, so you can tell it's a Doris Wishman film. I could see right away that Doris spared no expense on the library music for this film. I was wondering if I'd hear anything I recognized in this one too, and then, in a coincidence that had me , there it was again: Syd Dale's "The Hellraisers."
63) Love Toy (1968) {IMDb User Rating: 5.5/10 30 votes} An old guy loses everything he owns in a card game. The guy who won says he'll wipe out the debt if the old guy lets him spend a night with his daughter. The old guy agrees, and then things get a little sleazy. This one was filmed in the same apartment as A Taste of Flesh, only this time in living color, and with full frontal nudity. I didn't hear "The Hellraisers" in this one, but I did get to hear it again on the trailer for Another Day, Another Man that was included on the disc, so I'm counting that as a hat trick.

4/20/10

64) Too Much Too Often (1968) {IMDb User Rating: 5.0/10 11 votes} A male prostitute blackmails a client and demands he give him a job in his advertising agency. Then he sleeps with the guy's secretary and his daughter. Yeah, it's another Doris Wishman movie. At least she got out of her apartment some in this one. Not as many random shots of furnishings, but there are still enough to knock you out if you were playing a drinking game. She reused the one outdoor shot from A Taste of Flesh, but unfortunately didn't use "The Hellraisers" again.
65) Deadly Weapons (1974) {IMDb User Rating: 2.4/10 462 votes} After a guy is killed by two hoods, his hideously deformed girlfriend hunts down his killers for revenge. Doris left her apartment for this one and went to Miami and Las Vegas. Well, actually she went to the closest stock footage company and bought a few seconds of footage of Miami and Las Vegas and added some of her old nudist camp footage to it.
66) Double Agent 73 (1974) {IMDb User Rating: 3.4/10 296 votes} Chesty Morgan is a secret agent with a camera implanted in her left breast. There's more recycled nudist camp footage (we even get some volleyball action in this one), a car chase in the suburbs, and a visit to a zoo. I'd seen this one and the previous one twenty or so years ago on cable, but hadn't been able to talk myself into watching them again until now.

4/21/10

67) Law of the Jungle (1942) {IMDb User Rating: 5.2/10 50 votes} A paleontologist, his manservant, and a torch singer trek through the African jungle and are hunted by spies and natives.
68) White Pongo (1945) {IMDb User Rating: 2.5/10 291 votes} People paddle canoes and walk through some woods and some stock footage searching for a not-so-elusive white gorilla.
69) The Savage Girl (1932) {IMDb User Rating: 4.5/10 40 votes} A wealthy alcoholic hires a Frank Buck wannabe to acquire some specimens for his personal zoo.

4/22/10

70) Unholy Matrimony (1966) {IMDb User Rating: 5.6/10 18 votes} A reporter and his girlfriend investigate hoods blackmailing wife swappers by going undercover as married swingers.
71) My Third Wife, George (1968) {IMDb User Rating: 6.2/10 36 votes} A rich, middle-aged momma's boy has some sexual adventures. Oddly enough for a cheap film like this, there's lots of stuff in the trailer that wasn't in the film.
72) Lorna (1964) {IMDb User Rating: 6.1/10 371 votes} On her first anniversary, Lorna cheats on her hubby with an escaped con.

4/23/10

73) Mudhoney ...Leaves a Taste of Evil! (1965) {IMDb User Rating: 6.3/10 567 votes} During the Great Depression a drifter gets a job on a farm.
74) "Sheba, Baby" (1975) {IMDb User Rating: 5.3/10 304 votes} P.I. Pam Grier returns home to Louisville to help her father fight off some gangsters who are after his business.
75) J.D.'s Revenge (1976) {IMDb User Rating: 5.7/10 245 votes} After he is hypnotized at a nightclub, a college kid is possessed by the spirit of a dead gangster.

4/24/10

76) The Monkey Hu$tle (1976) {IMDb User Rating: 4.1/10 114 votes} Yaphet Kotto is a small time crook who teaches a group of street urchins the ropes.
77) The Rebel Rousers (1969) {IMDb User Rating: 3.0/10 313 votes} Bruce Dern and Jack Nicholson are part of a gang of motorcyclists who harass Diane Ladd and Cameron Mitchell at a beachside town. Seemed like they were making it up as they went along.
78) Cannibal Holocaust (1980) {IMDb User Rating: 6.1/10 14,425 votes} People go into the jungle searching for a group of missing documentary filmakers.
79) "Sin You Sinners" (1963) {IMDb User Rating: 4.0/10 25 votes}

4/25/10

80) Pets (1974) {IMDb User Rating: 5.7/10 57 votes}
81) Cannibal Ferox (1981) {IMDb User Rating: 5.0/10 3,277 votes}

4/26/10

82) Dünyayi Kurtaran Adam (1982) {IMDb User Rating: 5.4/10 3,636 votes}

84) The Invitation (1975) {IMDb User Rating: (awaiting 5 votes)}
85) Pick-up (1975) {IMDb User Rating: 4.9/10 312 votes}

Re: First Annual B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-in Movie Challenge ***Lists Go Here***

APRIL 1
1) YOR: THE HUNTER FROM THE FUTURE - Dinosaurs, babes, lasers, Darth Vaderish robots, medallions and explosions. Yep, this one has something for everyone. It's fast paced and fun - the perfect start to the challenge. My first Antonio Margheriti (err, Anthony Dawson) flick. *

2) NIGHT CALL NURSES - I can't imagine what audiences paying to see this thought when it finally unspooled for 'em. Very little sex or nudity, but a lot of psycho drama and counter culture politics. Well written (George Armitage) and directed (Johnathan Kaplan) with several quirky asides to keep things interesting. *

APRIL 2
3) SCHLOCK! THE SECRET HISTORY OF AMERICAN MOVIES - Excellent doc celebrating the genre we all know and love. A great watch. *

4) THE TOOLBOX MURDERS (1977) - Cameon Mitchell chews scenery and lollipops in this grindhouse classic. The plot takes some surprising twists and after a brutal beginning, the flick settles into a pretty good melodrama.

5) ROLLING THUNDER - Intense revenge thriller with a brava performance by William Devane as a returning POW pushed over the edge. More of a character study than a typical action flick. *

6) THREE THE HARD WAY - Jim Brown, Jim Kelly and Fred Williamson kick white supremist ass in this wildly entertaining flick. Filled with non stop action and a wacky plot straight out of a James Bond movie, this friggin' rocks! *

7) THE GREAT SILENCE - Interesting spaghetti western. Damn, what an ending! *

APRIL 3
8) POOR PRETTY EDDIE - Leslie Uggams breaks down on the wrong back road and ends up in a southern gothic nightmare. Truly bizarre satire of racism, sexism and probably a few isms nobody has even thought of yet. Shelly Winters and Slim Pickens are a trip. *

9) THE NEW KIDS - James Spader gives good villain in Sean Cunningham's tale of high school lust and revenge. Slick but routine and forgettable. The fiery finale adds some zing. *

10) NIGHT OF THE LEPUS - All the dismembered corpses and growling sounds in the world can't mask the fact that rabbits are too damned cute to be scary. Happy Easter!

APRIL 4
11) THE MONKEY HU$TLE - Breezy comedy with Yaphet Kotto practically sparkling as a con man who loves the grift. Not much plot, or really very funny but so good natured it's hard to dislike. Nobody rocks a leisure suit with no shirt like Rudy Ray Moore! *

APRIL 5
12) THE TERROR OF TINY TOWN - Typical western of the era with a gimmick cast. Not nearly as bad as I was expecting and actually kind of enjoyable. Nice songs too! *

APRIL 6
13) GRAND THEFT AUTO - Ron Howard's first feature as director is an above average car crash epic with a great cast of B movie vets and character actors. The movie starts fast and never lets up as the chase for a young couple escalates into a literal demolition derby. No CGI in this baby, just real twisted metal! *

APRIL 7
14) AIRPORT 1975 - I hadn't seen this in years but it was always a favorite of mine as a kid. A lot of it is hilarious now after "Airplane" but it still holds up as an entertaining disaster flick. If you get bored, just play name that star.

APRIL 8
15) MALATESTA'S CARNIVAL OF BLOOD - Surreal, occasionally incoherent, low budget cannibal flick. Depending on your tastes, this is either a trippy, imaginative example of filmmaking on the fly - or it's insufferable. I'm on the side of trippy and imaginative. *

16) CINDY AND DONNA - The sexual awakening of a teenage girl by way of lurid soap opera courtesy of Crown International. The smokin' hot female cast is frequently nude so you don't really notice not much is going on. Surprisingly downbeat with a killer ending. *

17) THE GREEN SLIME - Good fun as fast growning, energy craving aliens attack a space station. The monsters look like they should be fighting Power Rangers. *

APRIL 9
18) CAGED HEAT - Classic WIP flick written and directed by Jonathan Demme is not as sleazy as most in the genre but still delivers the goods. The cast is awesome (Rainbeaux Smith, Roberta Collins, Erica Gavin, Barbara Steele) and so is the nudity. More about the women than degradation. Surreal dream sequences are cool. *

19) BLACK SAMSON - Man fights to keep drugs and organized crime out of his neighborhood. Routine blaxpolitation flick. William Smith is great as the villain. *

APRIL 10
20) CINEMA WASTELAND EXPO

21) ZOMBIE - Fulci's classic even better with most of the cast in the next room. One of the true greats of the splatter genre.

22) ZOMBIE PANEL with Al Cliver, Richard Johnson, Ian McColloch, Ottaviano Dell’Acqua and Beatrice Ring.

23) TALES OF 42ND STREET with 42nd Street Pete - Ask him to tell you a hooker story. I think he might have one for ya!

APRIL 11
24) BADASSSSS CINEMA - Pretty good doc about the blaxploitation genre. Could be longer though.

25) BLOOD FEAST - Interesting as a curio, but even at 67 minutes it's a tough slog. As a life long horror fan, it's long overdue that I watch the original gore film but I'm glad history class is over. A film much easier to admire than enjoy. As expected, the gore is fun. *

APRIL 12
26) TEENAGE CRIME WAVE - Not bad juvenile delinquent epic as a psychotic teen breaks his girlfriend out of jail and holds up in an isolated farmhouse. All the laughable 50's hysteria is here, but the movie is surprisingly involving. Nice BW photography. *

APRIL 13
27) BLOOD DINER - Jackie Kong's homage to "Blood Feast" is actually better. Genuinely funny at times with some good gore. Builds to a delirious climax. Uneven, but interesting acting. *

APRIL 14
28) BRIDE OF THE MONSTER - An Edward D. Wood Jr joint. Not as good as "Plan 9" but has enough classic Woodian touches to make it entertaining. Bela Lugosi is fantastic as an scientist working to perfect a race of atomic supermen. *

APRIL 15
29) CINDERELLA (1977) - Adult version of fairy tale is also a decent musical. The sex is the least interesting thing about this rare starring vehicle for Cheryl "Rainbeaux" Smith. The songs are pretty good but the endless soft core scenes and some of the attempts at comedy grow tiresome. Cheryl is great as usual. *

APRIL 16
30) VICE SQUAD - Wings Hauser is terrifying as a psychotic pimp on a rampage in Gary Sherman's lean, mean crime drama. Taking place on one eventful night in LA, this is everything you'd want from a flick like this. Fast paced and violent with an authentically sleazy vibe. Wings also sings the killer song "Neon Slime" on the soundtrack.

31) RACE WITH THE DEVIL - Great hybrid of horror and action with Peter Fonda and Warren Oates on the run from Satanists after witnessing a human sacrifice. Creepy at times with a nice paranoid atmosphere.

32) TROLL 2 - Claudio Fragasso's masterpiece of ineptitude is entertaining as hell. The movie never stops topping itself with one weird set piece after another and the performances are so bad they're fascinating. The best worst movie indeed!

APRIL 17
33) IF FOOTMEN TIRE YOU, WHAT WILL HORSES DO? - If there hadn't been a church in my neighborhood growing up that played Ron Ormond's religious films, I'd swear they were a put on. An amazing film that has to be seen to be believed. I think Max Von Sydow said it best in "Hannah and Her Sisters" - "If Jesus came back and saw what's going on in his name, he'd never stop throwing up. " *

APRIL 18
34) CURSE OF THE DEVIL - Paul Naschy as werewolf Waldemar Daninsky in pretty good monster flick. Old fashioned but with graphic gore and nudity. Cool creature makeup. *

35) DEATH RACE 2000 - The cast is perfect in Paul Bartel's hilarious satire of America's obsession with violence and competition. One of the best from New World Pictures' golden age and one of the best expolitation movies ever.

36) THE CAR - A driverless demonic auto cruises the desert and terrorizes a small town. A fun hybrid of "Jaws" and "The Exorcist" that manages to overcome a silly premise. The well acted film is played straight and the widescreen photography is fantastic. Better than it sounds.

APRIL 19
37) BLACK CAESAR - Terriffic remake of "Little Caesar" from writer/director Larry Cohen. Well done with a great performance from Fred Williamson. Features some complex characters and a tense final act. *

APRIL 20
38) HELL UP IN HARLEM - Unnecessary sequel to "Black Caesar" plays like the quickie cash in it was. The original was complex and subversive, this is a popcorn action flick. Watching Fred Williamson kick ass is always fun though. *

APRIL 21
39) THE GHASTLY ONES - Read Jimmy McDonough's "The Ghastly One - The Sex-Gore Netherworld of Filmmaker Andy Milligan" instead. *

40) KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS - Top notch 70's eco-terror as highly toxic tarantulas invade small Arizona town. Great arachnid action with an awesomely nihilistic ending.

APRIL 22
41) CRY-BABY - This one has grown on me over the years. Not as funny as usual for John Waters, but the music is great and the cast is game. Too bad the guy in the lead never went on to have much success.

APRIL 23
42) MUDHONEY - Russ Meyer depression era melodrama. It "leaves a taste of evil"! *

43) VAN NUYS BLVD - Tedious slice of life as several uninteresting characters live and love on the title street circa 1979. Cool as a time capsule but deadly dull as a movie. *

APRIL 24
44) BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS - One of my favorite flicks of all time. Roger Ebert's script is endlessly quotable and the songs are friggin' awesome. A classic.

45) FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN IN 3D - Interesting take on the familiar story. Well made with great use of 3D. Deadpan sense of humor and effective over the top gore. Much better than I expected. *

46) SANTO VS BLUE DEMON IN ATLANTIS - A Mexican wrestling movie. 'Nuff said. *

47) CANNIBAL FEROX - Despite the usual animal killings, this isn't as vile as most in this genre. Grimy and disgusting, it undeniably delivers on a visceral level. Be prepared to need a shower after watching. *

APRIL 25
48) BLACK BELT JONES - Jim Kelly and Gloria Hendry team up to battle gangsters and thugs in light hearted kung fu romp. Great entertainment directed by Robert "Enter the Dragon" Clouse. *

49) THE MYSTERIOUS MONSTERS - Peter Graves and Schick Sun Classic Pictures do their best to prove that Bigfoot exists in this theatrical documentary. With some dubious science and hilarious leaps, the flick is a total blast of 70's monster quest nostalgia. A bit overlong, but great fun. *

APRIL 26
50) THE BIG DOLL HOUSE - One of the best WIP flicks from expolitation master Jack Hill. The cast is killer with Roberta Collins, Pam Grier and Sid Haig as a good guy! *

APRIL 27
51) ZOMBI 3 - There are traces of Fulci at times, but it really feels more like a Bruno Mattei flick. This is a bad movie even by Italian zombie movie standards. *

APRIL 28
52) AMERICAN NIGHTMARES (COMBAT SHOCK) - Beyond nihilism, this could be the darkest movie I've ever seen. Depressing and ugly, but also incredibly well directed by Buddy Giovinazzo with an intense lead performance from brother Rick Giovinazzo. Unforgettable. *

53) HARDWARE - Art meets exploitation in Richard Stanley's visually stunning "Terminator" riff.

APRIL 29
54) THE TOY BOX - Sometimes cool, sometimes tedious, always weird dirty movie with a whacked out final twist. A woman has sex with her bed in one of the trippiest soft core sex scenes of all time. Cheesy, but kinda creepy at times. *

55) WILLIE DYNAMITE - Pimpin' ain't easy, as this 1974 blaxpolitation flick so aptly demonstrates. Roscoe Orman gives a compelling performance as Willie D. Somber and realistic. *

APRIL 30
56) THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY - Comedy about one night at an LA disco. Not very funny, but still mildly entertaining thanks to an interesting cast (Jeff Goldblum, Debra Winger and Berlin's Terri Nunn) and wayback machine appeal. *

57) A THIEF IN THE NIGHT - Christian horror film about rapture and aftermath. Slow, preachy first half but picks up steam once our heroine is left behind. Gotta be the scariest movie ever made in Des Moines, Iowa. *

58) THE SADIST - Tense crime drama with Arch Hall Jr as a sociopath terrorizing three stranded motorists at a desert gas station. Well made with beautiful photography from Vilmos Zsigmond. *

59) THE FAN (1981) - Lovely combination of class and trash as man obsessed with aging movie star turns to stalking and murder. Lauren Bacall, James Garner, Maureen Stapleton and Michael Biehn are all great in movie that's half soapy drama, half slasher flick.

MAY 1
60) HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD - Affectionate satire of life (and murder) at a New Worldesque movie studio in the 1970's from Joe Dante and Allan Arkush. Lots of sly in-jokes and clever use of stock footage. A perfect final film for the challenge. *

SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!

Re: First Annual B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-in Movie Challenge ***Lists Go Here***

Goal: 50
* = First Time Viewing

April 1
01. Cavegirl (1985)* Started this at midnight eastern time and managed to get through it without falling asleep; however, that really was a challenge. 3/10
02. Coach (1978)* Cathy Lee Crosby is hired as the coach of a boys high school basketball team and falls for one of her players. It's a story straight out of todays headlines!!! 5/10

April 2
03. Jocks (1986)* WOW, that was bad. Not even Christopher Lee and a young, hot Mariska Hargitay could save this. 2/10

April 4
04. My Tutor (1983)* Well, that was a little better. At least they attempted a little character development. 5/10
05. The Pom Pom Girls (1976)* 4/10
06. The Van (1977)* Who knew vans were such panty droppers? 5/10

April 6
07. The Beach Girls (1982)* No plot what-so-ever, just lots of gratitutious nudity. That's not all bad!!! 4/10
08. Hunk (1987)* With characters named Hunk Golden, Constantine Constapopolis, Laurel Springs, Skeet Mecklenberger and Coaster Royce, how can it be bad? I actually kind of enjoyed this one for some strange reason. 6/10

April 7
09. My Chauffeur (1986)* Had a few humerous moments, but overall, very average. 4/10

April 8
10. Malibu Beach (1978)* You know it's bad when the star of the movie is a dog trained to steal bikini tops. 2/10

April 9
11. Tomboy (1985)* Not too bad, I suppose, but then again, not really very good either. 4/10

April 10
12. Weekend Pass (1984)* This was horrible, probably the worst I've seen yet. 1/10
13. The Giant Gila Monster (1959)* Falls into the category of so bad, it's good. I especially liked how the monster seemed to change sizes. Sometimes it look like the size of several cars, other times it looked like it was a few inches long. 4/10

April 11
14. Action Jackson (1988)* I liked this. Not 100% sure it counts because it looked big budget at times; however, IMDB lists it as Blaxploitation, so I'll count it unless someone objects. 6/10
15. Poison (2001)* Directed by Jim Wynorski. I liked this one a little more than I should. Reminded me of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle. Definitely better than the 2.6 rating on IMDB. 5/10
16. The Killer Shrews (1959)* Another one that's so corny, it's good. 4/10
17. Pick-Up (1975)* I have no idea what I watched here. I think you have to be high to get anything out of it. 2/10

April 12
18. The Teacher (1974)* Not bad, much better than I expected and Angel Tompkins is hot. Good, creepy performance by Anthony James. 6/10
19. Best Friends (1975)* A little deeper than most B-Movies; however, something seemed to be missing. 4/10

April 13
20. Trip with the Teacher (1975)* Not bad, but could have been so much better. 5/10
21. The Sister-in-Law (1974)* 5/10

April 14
22. The Stepmother (1972)* Somewhat entertaining, but I'll probably never watch it again. 5/10

April 15
23. Malibu High (1979)* 4/10

April 16
24. Cindy and Donna (1970)* Not much plot, just lots of nudity. 4/10

April 17
25. Class of 1984 (1982)* By far, the best movie I've watched for this challenge. Not at all what I expected, but I loved it. 8/10
26. Showgirls (1995) Always good for a laugh or two. 5/10

April 18
27. City of Violence (2006)* Pretty good South Korean crime flick. Good fight scenes. 6/10
28. Shadow Man (2006)* Starring Steven Seagal who can't move like he used to, but still a pretty entertaining movie. I liked it. 6/10
29. Until Death (2007)* Starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Good story that drags a little in the middle. Overall, a good watch. 5/10

April 19
30. The Glimmer Man (1996)* Another entertaining Seagal movie. Also, has Keenen Ivory Wayans and Brian Cox who were both good. 6/10
31. Out of Reach (2004)* This was a not so good Seagal film. Seemed like it lasted forever despite being only 86 minutes. 3/10

April 20
32. Second in Command (2006)* This is Jean-Claude Van Damme at his best. Nothing that hasn't been seen before, but I loved it!!! 7/10
33. Diamond Dogs (2007)* Starring Dolph Lundgren. Had the potential to be good, but something was missing. 4/10

April 21
34. It's Alive (1974)* Directed by Larry Cohen. Decent 70's horror movie. Not very scary by todays standards, but who can't love a killer baby? 5/10

April 26
35. It's Alive 2: It Lives Again (1978)* Directed by Larry Cohen. Pretty good sequel. I think I liked this one a little better than the original. Not just one killer baby, but three!!! 6/10

April 27
36. It's Alive 3: Island of the Alive (1987)* Directed by Larry Cohen. By far the weakest of the trilogy, but still somewhat entertaining. Better special effects and gore, but weaker storyline. 4/10
37. The Russian Specialist (2005)* Good shootout at the end, but was a struggle to get there. Dolph Lundgren is just not quite the action star Seagal and Van Damme are. 3/10

April 28
38. Above the Law (1988)* Steven Seagal's first feature film. Not his best, but decent 5/10

(*) first time viewing

April 1
1. Meteor Apocalypse (Micho Rutare; 2010)*--Netflix DVD--Water-contaminating meteors follow our hero from Vegas to L.A. in search of his family, while government bureaucrats fight amongst themselves about what to do with the already-water-infected folks (including, of course, our hero's daughter)--3/5
April 2
2. Phantom Racer (Terry Ingram; 2009)*--Netflix DVD--Nicole Eggert, Greg Evigan, a haunted racecar, and a couple of hilariously gruesome kills. An entertaining timewaster--3/5
3. Shanks (William Castle; 1974)*--DVR'd from TCM--Strange "silent" film about a mute puppeteer and his newest "puppets." Creepy and different--4/5
April 3
4. The House Where Evil Dwells (Kevin Connor; 1982)*--DVR'd from TCM--"There's an awful face in my soup!" Slow-going ghost story, set in Japan. Flashes of unintentional humor, including a a scene with yelling, attacking crabs, and a fun fight at the end--3/5
5. Something Is Out There (aka Day of the Animals)--(William Girdler; 1977)*--My DVD--Fun animals-vs.-man tale, with a few scares. This is the theatrical from Shriek Show, and all the scratches, splices and pops added to the enjoyment--4/5
6. Contraband (Lucio Fulci; 1980)*--Netflix DVD--Blood, boobs and bad dubbing--3/5
7. Devil Dog: The Hound of Hell (Curtis Harrington; 1978)*--My DVD--TV movie with a cute puppy that is really spawned by Satan. I liked the "Blink"-esque scene where everytime Mom looks up the dog is sitting closer... and closer... and closer--3/5
April 4
8. Grizzly (William Girdler; 1976)*--My DVD--Big bear--3/5
9. Razorback (Russell Mulcahy; 1984)*--My DVD--Big boar--4/5
10. Bad Taste (Peter Jackson; 1987)--My DVD--Hadn't watched this one in years. Still a lot of fun--4/5
April 6
11. Nightmare at Noon (Niko Mastorakis; 1987)*--Netflix DVD--More bad water, this time causing craziness, badly-choreographed fights and slow-motion stunts. A good copter chase at the end made this (barely) worth sitting through--3/5
April 7
12. The Stuff (Larry Cohen; 1985)--Netflix DVD--This was fun when I was a kid, but now it's just bad, with horribly edited scenes that just seemed to stop and jump to halfway through another--2/5
April 8
13. Don't Torture a Duckling (Lucio Fulci; 1972)*--Netflix DVD--Mystery about a child killer, with a few touches of the Fulci gore--3/5
April 9

April 10
15. The Bad Seed (Paul Wendkos; 1985)*--My DVD--Okay tv remake--3/5
16. Eaten Alive (Umberto Lenzi; 1980)--Netflix DVD--Partway through this I realized, not only had I seen it before, but i own it too. Still it was good to see this one again--3/5

April 14
24. The Man from Deep River (Umberto Lenzi; 1973)*--Netflix DVD--A cannibal movie with almost no cannibals. Almost documentary-style story of a man captured by a jungle tribe. I think most of the cannibal scenes were reused in "Eaten Alive"--4/5

April 19

April 23
36. Wicked, Wicked (Richard L. Bare; 1973)*--DVR'd from TCM--In Duo-Vision. A goofy murder mystery using split-screen for almost the entire movie, with some clever uses of the effect--4/5
37. Night of the Lepus (William F. Claxton; 1972)*--Netflix DVD--"Attention! Attention! There is a herd of killer rabbits headed this way!"--3/5
April 24
38. He Knows You're Alone (Armand Mastroianni; 1980)*--Netflix DVD--Killer targets brides-to-be. With a couple of pre-"Scream" nods to horror movies. And Tom Hanks--3/5
39. These Are the Damned (Joseph Losey; 1963)*--My DVD--Starts as a teenage-gang pic, then becomes a scary (and sad) tale about a group of unique children. One of my favorites of this challenge--4/5
40. Telefon (Don Siegel; 1977)--My DVD--"The woods are lovely, dark and deep..." Another one I haven't seen since I was a kid, this Charles Bronson spy thriller still entertains--4/5
April 25
41. Never Take Candy from a Stranger (Cyril Frankel; 1960)*--My DVD--Real-life horror. Hard to watch at times, but a thrilling final act--4/5
42. The Snorkel (Guy Green; 1958)*--My DVD--Teen goes all Nancy Drew to prove her stepfather murdered her mother--4/5
April 26
43. The Legend of Dinosaurs and Monster Birds (Junji Kurata;1977)*--Netflix DVD--One dinosaur and one monster bird attack a Japanese village to the groovy sounds of 70s porn music. Ends with a hilarious dino-fight as the bird, I think, tries to hypnotize the dinosaur to death, and our heroes hang seemingly forever from a tree branch over a gaping pit of stock lava footage--2/5
April 27
44. Maniac (Michael Carreras; 1963)*--My DVD--Lots of twists and turns in this Hammer murder mystery--3/5
April 30
45. 100 Million BC (Griff Furst; 2008)*--Netflix DVD--Entertaining go-back-in-time-then-accidentally-bring-a-rampaging-dinosaur-back-with-you flick. I'm getting hooked on these stupid Asylum movies--3/5

Re: First Annual B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-in Movie Challenge ***Lists Go Here***

April 1

01. Ecco / 1963 ☼
- Released on the crest of 'Mondo' craze, this feature at times is interesting but near the end kind of peters out - A coupld of scenes featuring animal cruelity seems a bit too forced and jarring from the other segments. The stomach and neck piercing scenes were cringe inducing and near unwatchable.
[Trailers: 'Ecco' / 'Mondo Bizarro'/ 'Mondo Freudo' / 'Tabu']

02. The Forbidden / 1966 ☼
- Fascinatiing Mondo doc that is at times sleazy, titillating and sexist all at once, but nonetheless entertaining.

03. Emaneulle Around the World / 1977 (102min version) ☼
- Hand it to director Joe D'Amato to deliver the beastility scenes to new levels of sheer grossness and debaunchery. The story seems to meander but it's one of the better Emanuelle film's in this subgenre.
[Trailers: 'The Adult Version of Jeckyll & Hyde' / 'The Amazing Transplant']

04. Malabimba (The Malicious Whore) / 1979 (98min version) ☼
- Good cast and acting, A story that is both intriguing and explicit when it wants to be.
[Trailers: 'Malabimba' / 'The Erotic Adventures of Zorro']

05. In the Folds of the Flesh / 1970 ☼
- This was flat out - 'out there' The reveals of the fractured story are brain numbing, but ingenious in it's own way - some of the acting is terribly wooden and one of the male characters looks like 'Ugly Betty's' Mark St. James but chubbier. Some of the scenes where you'd think a character would do something sensibily, never happen and just come out as maddening - ugh, are you really THAT stupid.
[Trailers: 'In the Folds of the Flesh' / 'The Secret Sex Lives of Romeo & Juliet' / 'Blaze Starr Goes Nudist']

06. Electronic Lover / 1970 ☼
- I so wanted to throw something, say a frying pan at the lead character ('Master' Mike Atkinson) he's such a deranged perv but when he starts saying one line: 'Find her, Find her, Find her, Find her... Find...Her' or 'Mommy, Mommy, Mommy' over and over again, I was like 'Oh for the love of God, please shut the fuck up' - I kept thinking if you took out the dialogue, tightened the editing and reduced the running time by say, fifteen minutes, added gauze around the outer edges of the screen, you'd have a 'nudie' Guy Maddin film. The African-American female dancing naked was oddly the best scene in the movie

07. The Spy Who Came
- This film worked for me, not only was it a strange plot for a film, but as the film progresses it just get's wierder and wierder. I had hoped the nudity/sexuality notably the threesome at the end was a tad more explict.
[Trailers: 'The Curious Dr. Hump' / 'Office Love-In' / 'The Singles' / 'Some Like It Violent']

April 2

08. The Stewardesses / 1969 ☼ [viewed in anaglyph 3D]
- 'Plot' what's that? - HAH, it's waifer thin! Since the 3D effects come in rapid succession, why dwell on a storyline?, given it's very softcore (on a scale of 1 to 10, it's a 2 - in the hand's of a different director one wonders how much more clinical and messier the film would have been) All in all, random objects, like pool sticks, bed knobs, and the prerequisite feet, hair, butts and hoo-hah's are shoved in your face for maximum effect
[Trailers: 'Delinquent Schoolgirls' / 'The Curious Female']

April 5

09. Zombi Holocaust (aka. 'Dr. Butcher M.D.) / 1980 ☼
- While it's no Fulci's 'Zombi' which almost seems like a sequel in it's own right- it's fun in a bad way, the old school gore is ripe, notably two throat slashings and the legendary boat blade to the face, the demise of Dr. Obrero is a major letdown but by then maybe the filmmakers ran out of money. The cannibals munch out scenes are hysterical in that they eat anything that's living as if they haven't eaten for months.
[Trailers: 'Dr. Butcher M.D + (German trailer) / 'The Night of Terror' (aka 'Burial Ground']

10. Massacre in Dinosaur Valley / 1985 ☼
- Not enough gore for my taste, but largely this movie is so insanely laughable: the acting, the 80's music score, a plane crashing that has everyone on board screaming and flaying their hands as if the director is exclaiming off screen 'Scream like your life depends on it' [cue mass hysteria] - the river fight scene also had me rolling in laughter - on the plus side the female nudity is so gratuitious and salacious.
[Trailers: 'Massacre in Dinosaur Valley']

11. Emanuelle and the White Slave Trade / 1978 ☼
- The plot might be a bit haphazzard but it compensates with a ton of nudity you could swing a bat at. It has a great groovy soundtrack and has one of the funniest lines from Emanuelle as she is strapped to a bed (in hopes of escaping) to a female nurse: 'If you can help me undress, I could caress you better'
[Trailers: 'Emanuelle and the White Slave Trade']

April 6

12. Emanuelle in Bangkok
- Aside from a gang-rape scene director Joe D'Amato actually makes the sex scenes more erotic than his signature smut. It's basically just a parade of sex and just throws the story out the window.
[Trailer: 'Emanuelle in Bangkok']

13. Tears of the Black Tiger / 2000
- It's a Douglass Sirk romance - no wait it's a John Woo splatter western ... and it's set in Thailand. A truly fascinating, entertaining film that mixes it genres into a bizarre satisfying film.
[Trailer: 'Tears of the Black Tiger']

14. Fando y Lis / 1968 ☼
- or as I'd refer to it as: Fellini on crack. One almost gets the sense that maybe Ken Russell got his inspiration for the bathing in baked beans scene in 'The Who's Tommy' from this film.

April 7

15. Danger: Diabolik / 1968 ☼
- this came across a cross genre hybrid of James Bond and Batman. One dance scene had me laughing as I was almost expecting to see Austin Powers wander in and exclaim 'Yeah, Baby' The sets and costume design were great and the action scenes with a bunch of minatures blowing up (and falling down the same ravine) was a hoot.

16. Erik the Conqueror / 1961 ☼
- Who knew Bava made a 'Viking' film, and he ultilized all the trademark visual styles that made him famous - notably the fight scenes are visceral and very exciting.

17. The Godfathers of Mondo / 2003 ☼
- Fascinating documentary on Gulatiero Jacopetti and Franco Prosperi, the makers of the infamous 'Mondo Cane' 'Africa Addio' and 'Goodbye Uncle Tom' - the stories and behind the scenes footage are rivetting. A harrowing account of one of the directors about to get shot by an African firing squad but saved by the mere fact that he wasn't 'white' (i.e, 'English') buit Italian saved his ass.

April 8

18. Divine Trash / 2000 ☼
- As much as John Waters himself is a gas to listen in recalling his personal stories of being a filmmaker, his family, peers and actors he has worked with are equally illuminating to hear as well.

April 9

19. The Immoral Mr Teas / 1959 ☼
- Aside from the narration, the film almost comes across as lewd Mousieur Hulet mini-film.

20. Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! / 1965 [w/ 'Pussycat' commentary track ☼]
- The gals were instructed by Meyer that sex onscreen or off was not permitted during principal filming - he thought their performances were going to suffer from extracurricular activities
[Trailer: 'Faster, Pussycat, Kill! Kill!' / 'Blacksnake' / 'Mudhoney']

April 10
~

April 11

21. Dinoshark / 2010 ☼
- Gorgeous hidef photography, but largely a cut and paste 'Jaws' ripsoff right down to similiar line but obviousily changed: 'We're going to need a bigger chopper' (right after the dinoshark leaped out of the water and downed a chopper) - there is no tension whatsoever, except for a scene where the shark leaps into the viewers face at one point. The flaregun to the head and subsequent explosion was a very cheap looking effect but a hoot just to see in a otherwise very...very low budget film.

22. Mega Piranha / 2010 ☼
- painfully goofy, incredibly bad acting and that's an understatement, Tiffany couldn't act herself out of a paper bag, the dialogue is sooooooo stilted and wooden. The CGI is terrible, but it was kind of fun to see piranha the size of buses leap out of the water eating people left and right and smashing into buildings.

23. Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus / 2009 ☼
- If were the Octopus, I would have demanded more screen time. much better than 'Mega Piranha' but not enough scenes of carnage and mass destruction.

April 12

24. Atomic Twister
- exceedingly goofy premise, but the pretty decent special effects shots kept my interest. Not great, but not that bad for that matter

25. Disaster Zone: Volcano in New York
- I simply couldn't care less about any of the characters in this bad, not to mention cheap disaster movie, I'd had really hoped that a volcano had erupted in downtown Manhattan destroying everyone and everything at the end of the movie, but alas, it didnt' happen.

26. Not Quite Hollywood [w/commentary ☼]
- after watching the movie... and the deleted scenes... and the excellent commentary, I'd think you'd cover all your basis in knowing alot of the Australian film industry and the myriad genres that sprung up.

27. The Killer Nun
- a simple story that is highly benefitted from stark visually impressive cinematography and good acting - a surprise in my book.

April 13

28. Day of the Dead (1985) (w/Berger, Nicotero, Burrell, Deak 'fx' crew commentary ☼) Blu-ray
- the commentary is quite revealing and entertaining even if by the end it becomes a rollcall of who on the FX crew was sleeping or dating with other film crew.

29. Survival of the Dead
- Better than 'Diary of th Dead' - still not that keen on cgi blood, which is kept to a minimum thankfully, but hey it's a zombie movie ... from Romero, I liked it.

30. Q (The Winged Serpent)
- Michael Moriarity owns this movie, sure the stop motion animation is crude looking but it's such an off the wall premise that it actually works - shame there never was a follow up sequel.

31. The Relic Blu-ray
- a great cast hamming it up, a wild Stan Winston creature (that loves decapitating it's victims) and one of the loudest soundmixes makes this a wild ride.

32. Bad Taste
- I love the fact that Jackson is actually in this, playing two roles in fact - the pacing is a bit off at times and seems forced, but it's still a blast to resee this.

33. Meet the Feebles
- Jackson at his most deranged and sickest - the ending has to be seen to be believed - the fur and a whole bunch of body parts raindown everywhere.

April 14
34. The Day After Tomorrow [w/commentary] WILD CARD #1

April 16

35. Women's Prison Massacre / 1983 ☼
- I was expecting this to be alot more sleazy, instead it got old (and lame) really quickly

April 17
36. Master of the Flying Guillotine [w/ commentary ☼]
- the commentary alone is a treasure trove of film history of the entire genre.

37. Coonskin
- I had forgotten how really vulgur, not to mention really rascist this film is, as well as featuring some of the most repellent exceedingly ugly 'animation' ever committed to celluloid - Bakshi's best

April 19
38. Ilsa Harem Keeper of the Oil Sheiks [w/ commentary ☼]
- illuminating commentary track where all the participants are clearly having a blast recollect all the on the set antics and related stories (the dildo scene still leaves me shock and laughing for days)

39. Ilsa The Wicked Warden [w/commentary ☼]
- Jess Franco certainly loves his women naked - alot. Surprised how sleazy it got. Another great commentary

40. Turkey Shoot (aka Escape 2000) ☼
- Given how much of the film's gore was ruined and shown in the excellent 'Not Quite Hollywood' documentary, the film is still a ton of fun, surprised no one has done a remake - oh wait it's sort of like - oh well saying too much more would ruin the fact that someone sort of has remade it, but without all the over the top gore.

41. Come Drink With Me [w/ commentary ☼]
- Bey Logan and leading actress, Cheng Pei-pei's excellent commentary compliment an already classic kung-fu film

42. Clash of the Titans / 2010 WILD CARD #2

43. 7th Voyage of Sinbad [w/ commentary ☼] Blu-ray
- to have animator Harryhausen speak about his own creations on the commentary track is icing on the cake in my opinion

44. House of the Devil
- hmmm, this didn't impress me, as much praise as this movie has received - ummm there wasn't enough story to sustain my interest Maybe it was also the fact that the bluray I was watching, the entire image made it look I was watching it through a mesh screen door, talk about visually distracting.

April 20
45. The Protector (83min version) Blu-ray
- great action and the ending had enough bones breaking to make me wince for an entire week.

April 21
46. Soultaker / 1990 ['Mystery Science Theater 3000'] ☼
- all I could think of was 'oh those 80's mullets were hideous'

April 22
47. Forced Entry / 1973 ☼
- ew, yuck, this wasn't pleasant and I'm not referring to Harry Reem's ugly penis, the sex is highly unerotic, hell, all the sex is not something alot of people would get off to, add to the mix the lead character is completely off his rocker and kills his victims after he rapes them, makes this film nasty and exceedingly nihilistic.

48. Bad Biology / 2008 ☼
- hand it Henenlotter to go really bizarre in his most recent film and really go into the kinky realm of sex, horror and the 'out there' - the insane ending had me rolling in hysterics (And that's praise by the way folks)

April 22
49. Conquest / 1984 ☼
- Painfully silly but not Fulci's worst, the gore and action are well paced and the score aint that bad
[Trailer: 'Conquest' (US + International trailer)]

April 24
50. SS Experiment: Love Camp
[Trailer: 'The Beast in Heat' / 'Private House of the SS' / 'Yellow Emanuelle']

April 25
51. Blankman

April 26
52. Death Race 2000
53. Mad Max 2 (aka 'The Road Warrior') [w/ commentary ☼] Blu-ray
54. Death Wish 2 [unrated cut] ☼
55. Fist of Fury Blu-ray

April 29
56. 2012 Blu-ray WILD CARD #3

April 30
57. Black Dynamite Blu-ray

Re: First Annual B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-in Movie Challenge ***Lists Go Here***

Thanks, caligulathegod, for allowing a few hours leeway to include this theatrical showing from the Grindhouse Film Festival of Portland OR:
March 31
1. Death Chamber (1976) - Watching a Shaw Brothers Kung Fu film in a theater was a great kick-off to the challenge. Looking forward to the other grindhouse films this month.

April 1
2. Drive-in Movie Memories (2001) - Factoid: Blazing Saddles had its premiere at a drive-in, although it was more like a gallop-in as you had to ride a horse in to attend.
3. Cannibal Girls (1973) - Pre-SCTV Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin star as a couple stopping in a small town, learning about the legend of the Cannibal Girls....or are they part of the legend?? Directed by Ivan (Stripes, Ghostbusters) Reitman.
4. Asylum (1972) - A British horror anthology from Amicus Productions consisting of four stories that would be on par with old Night Gallery episodes.

April 2
5. The Executioner, Part II (1984) - Crazed Vietnam vet becomes street vigilante, wanted by police, hated by the underworld. What drove this ex-soldier mad? Maybe seeing a '80s helicopter that time-traveled back to 1970 Vietnam. See as he conveniently throws hoodlums behind air conditioner units or into dumpsters before pummeling them. Witness the atrocious acting. Hear gunshots that sound like 2x4s slapped together.
6. Truck Turner (1974) - This was full of awesome. Isaac Hayes in a starring role (surprising he didn't do more blaxploitation roles), Nichelle Nichols looking fiiiine. A car chase that crashes through a flower cart AND a bagel cart. A funeral procession of pimps. Truck Turner carrying a big, flowery purse. A hospital shoot-out. And, of course, an Issac Hayes soundtrack.

April 3
7. Samuel L. Bronkowitz presents The Kentucky Fried Movie (1977) - Low budget? Unknown writers and director? Juvenile humor? Inspiration from other exploitation movies? Could be a formula for disaster, but was a comedy classic and launched the careers of director John Landis and writers Abrahms, Zucker & Zucker.
And Donald Sutherland as the clumsy waiter.

April 7
8. Fiend Without a Face (1958) - Creature feature mixing the military, mad scientists and atomic power. Uses lots of Air Force stock footage and the invisible monster gimmick through most of the film. Nice payoff in the last fifteen minutes and great creepy sound effect for the crawling brains. Criterion Collection DVD has a nice little feature about the exploitation advertising and premiere for this movie.
9. Invincible Armour (1977) - Another great theatrical viewing at the Hollywood Theater in Portland. Fight scenes a-plenty in this martial arts film. Several times, there would be a fight between two men and then a third one would suddenly jump in. Who's this new guy? Who cares? They're going at it great!
10. The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!? (1964) w/Joe Bob Briggs commentary - I slogged through this one a few years ago for a Horror Challenge, but this time, I had Joe Bob Briggs' commentary help me through it. Even then, I had to take a couple of breathers to recover from the mediocre-to-awful song/dance numbers. While watching, a couple of things kept plaguing my mind: 1) If there were to be a remake or Ray Dennis Steckler bio filmed, Nicholas Cage would be great casting for Steckler aka Cash Flagg (and Sean Penn as Atlas King); 2) the character Ortega, with his ever present cigarette, kept reminding me of some old rubber mask that I would see in novelty catalogs from the early '70s.
Oretega Cigarette Man w/cap mask
Did this movie inspire the design of this mask?

April 8
11. Homo Promo (1993) - A collection of trailers for films with GLBT characters, ranging from the exploitative (Glen or Glenda?) to mainstream (The Children's Hour). Also has a short exploitation documentary Queens at Heart (1965), which seemed surprisingly non-judgmental.

Re: First Annual B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-in Movie Challenge ***Lists Go Here***

********* 2010 B-Movie/Exploitation Challenge **********

04/01

1. Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (2009) Huge animals fight while Debbie Gibson's Nose Watchesploitation. Sci-Fi HD
* - I figured I'd start with this so I could get it off my hard drive to make room for Warlords and wow, I mean come on. It didn't help that I couldn't keep staring at Debbie Gibson's nose the whole time. How the hell does she see over that thing? This movie is why I love The Asylum. They're seen of as a joke, but not by me. Those guys are brilliant and they don't even friggin' know it. I mean, seriously, how do you just forget to key out green screen?

04/02

2. Wrong Side of Town (2010) If they had just played this instead of Wrestlemania, I would have been entertainedsploitation. DVD
** - This felt like a no-brainer for me. David DeFalco, the director of the unbearably awful "Chaos" is back, this time with a movie starring pro wrestlers Batista, Rob Van Damn and Viscera (Yeah, Viscera). Oh yeah, Ja Rule is here too. As is Stormy Daniels doing the one thing she's qualified of doing: showing her tits. Kinda like The Warriors in that it's RVD's character on the run and every ten feet is assaulted by a new gang. Batista's part is pretty funny. Every other word out of his mouth is fuck so you just know he's itching to break out from Vince's "PG" rated programming.

3. Damage (2009) Austin 3:16 said I just kicked your assploitation DVD
*** - There's three reasons why I watched this thing. Reason the first, fuck it, it's Stone Cold. The only thing this movie was missing was the constant sound effect of glass breaking. Reason the second, Walter Goggins. That needs no explanation. Reason the third, Laura Vandervoot. She looks smokin' with dark hair. What, you don't believe me? See here and here. Yeah, I told ya. Anyway, the story is your typical parolee who becomes a cage fighter. It's a good way to spend 90 minutes.

04/03

4. Black Dynamite (2009) Ha, He threw that shit before he walked in the roomsploitation. Blu-ray.
**** - Simply perfect. Easily more laugh out loud funny and with more one-liners than 99.99997 percent of comedies that came in the last few years. So much so that I'm here, two hours after I ejected the Blu-ray and I'm still laughin' at that shit. Everything from the score, to the cinematography was just well, simply perfect.

04/04

5. The Room (2003) You're tearing him apartsploitation. DVD
* -

04/07

6. Troll 2 (1990) Proof that you can piss on hospitalitysploitation. DVD.
* - I mean, seriously now, does this really need an explanation? If you think it does, just go ahead and punch yourself in the face 17 times in rapid succession while having a friend kick you repeatedly in the nuts.

7. Murder Collection Vol. 1 (2009) Fred Vogel needs to stopsploitation. DVD
* - Like I said, Vogel needs to stop. I see what he's trying to do. I see who he's trying to be. He's just not talented enough for me to care. Guys like Lucifer Valentine and fuck, even Ryan Nicholson could be that guy. The problem with Vogel's films are that they're usually very funny (not intentionally, mind you) and that means I'm entertained. I shouldn't be entertained at an 80-minute film that is essentially 11 different vignettes of people being murdered. I should be disgusted. Not laughing.

04/08

8. Dangerous Minds (1995) That fucking song is still annoyingsploitation. DVD.
** - It's been at least close to 10 years since I watched this, and I guessed since it falls under the "Hood films" category (really?) I'd give it a spin. Pfeiffer's accent is extremely annoying and I find it funny that the main "tough" guy, Emilio, was like 40 when this was made (which I found out after I had watched this that he died in '98.) Anyway, am I the only one who remembers the awful TV series they made out of this?

04/09

9. The Substitute (1996) I'm soreysploitation. DVD.
*** - I guess, in the spirit of this challenge I should have watched like The Substitute 12 or something, but I didn't really give a shit. Watching this was, like Dangerous Minds, about watching something I liked that I haven't seen in about a decade. Anyway, the movie. I remember thinking at the time that Marc Anthony was good in the role. Knowing now, who Marc Anthony is now.. I can't help but laugh at him being the gang leader. I mean, come on.. Other than that, it was cool to see Tuco and the bounty hunter who boarded Serenity trying to capture River as part of Shale's Merc team.

04/10

10. One Eight Seven (1997) 187, puto!sploitation HDNet Movies.
*** - Easily the best of the teacher-trilogy starring Mace Windu, the MILF from the O.C., the dad from Home Alone and Method Man. Pretty slow moving with most of the deaths happening off screen but that is easily made up by the end. The last 20 or so minutes is terrific. Cliffton Collins Jr. is great here.

11. Erotic Nights of the Living Dead (1980) uhhhhh, what?sploitation. DVD.
* - It's D'Amato, what the hell do you expect? I have no freakin' idea what the hell this was about, all I know is there's a guy with a really big dick, chicks who need a shave and a very special lady who opens a champagne bottle with her who-ha.

04/11

12. Schoolgirl Hitchhikers (1973) Yay for softcore porn!sploitation. DVD.
** - Nowhere in this Jean Rollin film does it ever mention the fact that the 2 leads are schoolgirls. Hell, there isn't a second of film dedicated to hitchhiking, but hey, I guess they got that shit worked out before the movie started. The 2 leads are cute, despite the fact that one of them has teeth spaced like Proposition Joe, and they get naked a lot. So that's cool. Recommended, I think.

04/14

13. The Bare Wench 2: Scared Topless (2001) booooooooobsploitation. DVD.
* - The shit I'd watch just to see some tits, I'll tell ya.

04/17

14. August Underground (2001) He put shit in her titsploitation. DVD.
** - I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, hey Lick. Wait, can I call you Lick? OK good. Hey Lick, why would you watch this movie again. Well, I'll tell you. It was sitting next to my DVD player. That's as far as my thought process went.

04/20

15. Shopping Mall Jihad* (2009) Rue Morguesploitation. Online.
* - Lemme give you the scoop. This little half-hour short is about 4-and-a-half steps from being total brilliance. Peep this, 2 members of Al Jazeerah, who both speak perfect English mind you, kidnap 4 teenage girls from a local mall, drive them into the middle of nowhere, make them strip then kill them. The girls, of course, are more worried that they're going to miss American Idol than they are of the 2 men with their plastic Uzi's. The girls look 16, which is pretty creepy when they're buck-ass naked with their legs spread eagle all the while twitching and making their "O" face while trying to act like they've been shot.

04/22

16. Ninja Assassin (2009) It's raining blood. hurhur, you like what I did there?sploitation. Blu-ray.
** - This film was the equivalent of the time I lost my virginity. After about a minute in, I had already busted my nut and all that was left was a soft and sticky mess.

17. August Underground Mordum (2003) The sickness continues..sploitation. DVD.
*** - I'm utterly convinced that both Fred Vogel and Bill Zebub have a secret contest going on as to who can cast the fattest, ugliest women in their movies and have them get naked and hopefully, cause ol' Lick here to gag. Yep, I'm convinced.

04/24

18. The Stepfather II: Make Room for Daddy (1989) TMCHD.
** - Fairly mediocre sequel to an old '80s favorite. Quinn is good, as usual but the family this time is alot less likable than the first time around and I just kept waiting for them to die. I forgot Jonathan Brandis was even in this and was surprised when he showed up. Anyway, shortly after this movie Terry O'Quinn was paralyzed, fucked Peg Bundy and inhaled some smoke while Brandis hung himself. We'll never know if the two were in any way connected.

04/25

19. Hitler Meets Christ* (2009) ....sploitation. Online.
* - OK, hear me out. This isn't technically an exploitation movie or even your typical B-movie, that's why I'm considering this under a wildcard but wow, if this isn't Z-grade trash I don't know what to say. Peep it, this is a "film" about 2 hobos, one who believes he's Hitler, the other Jesus and they walk. Yep, that's it. 70 minutes of 2 mentally challenged hobo's fucking walking. They walk, they sleep, they shit, they walk, they go to pornographic movies, they walk. I was left speechless.. and if you know me, that's a fucking miracle.

20. Vampire Whores from Outer Space (2005) Coat hangers optionalsploitation Online.
** - Very funny Z-grade film about a couple rednecks having to stop the world (re: the woods near their house) from being overrun by Alien Vampire Prostitutes. They're not just Aliens. No, they're Vampire aliens who will suck your dick before sucking your blood. This was kinda like a Chris Seaver flick, but funny.

04/29

21. August Underground Penance (2007) Can you stomach it?sploitation. DVD.
** - Easily the worst of the AU trilogy even though, IMO, the gore is some of the best the trilogy has to offer. It also has one of the funniest rape scenes I've ever seen where both the woman being raped and the guy doing the raping are both crying. I don't know why that's funny to me.. but I nearly spit out my Iced Tea all over my plasma.

04/30

22. Header (2006) Uhhh, what?sploitation. DVD.
** - This has been sitting near my TV for awhile and I figured I should stop procrastinating and finally pop it in. This fuckin' thing was hilarious. Yeah, I guess most people would consider it "disturbing", but not me. Most of the accents are so funny, I will most definitely find myself mimicking them on future phone calls when I order pizza. Anyway, for those interested what a header is it's
Spoiler:
when you strap either a woman or a man to a table (whichever is your preference) open up their skull with a drill, make another hole in their brain, fuck the hole and cum on their brain.
Yep, definitely something I'm adding to my bucket list.

* Wildcard
This list is finished.

Re: First Annual B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-in Movie Challenge ***Lists Go Here***

The first drive-in movie theater opened in Camden, NJ, on June 6th, 1933.

Essentially an open field with a large screen, the audience would drive into the "theater," park next to a post which had a speaker attached to it, and view the movie from the car.

Drive-ins were especially popular with parents who didn't want to have to pay extra money for a babysitter; it was common to see whole families in their cars, with the kids in pajamas, watching the movie together.

In fact, Richard Hollingshead, who created the first drive-in, advertised it by saying, "The whole family is welcome, regardless of how noisy the children are."

That original drive-in theater lasted for three years, but by then, the idea was off and running, and in its heyday, some 4,000 drive-in theaters were scattered across the US.

Re: First Annual B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-in Movie Challenge ***Lists Go Here***

Trevor's B-Movie Challenge List

Thursday April 1st - Did some of the most careful pre-Challenge planning of my life. Only an hour or so, but still, for someone as lazy as me that's a lot. Went through my collection and pulled out 100 or so qualifying films. I'm aiming for 100, but wouldn't bet on myself making it this time, as most of these films aren't things I'd be allowed to watch at work. Also took a nap in the afternoon so that I could start at midnight.

001 - April Fool's Day (1986) - wiki - review - The more I watch it the more I like it. A Horror Challenge staple for me, but couldn't resist the opportunity to watch it on April 1st. Except for this selection, I plan on all of my choices to be first time viewings. Edit to add: I have ended up breaking this rule with much regularity.
002 - April Fool's Day (2008) - wiki - review - Almost painful to watch. I strangely sort of liked the ending, even though you knew it was coming. But just an awful film with horrible acting.
003 - Kissin' Cousins (1964) - wiki - review - My first Elvis film, and I get to see him in two roles!
004 - Night of the Ghouls (1959) - wiki - review - Ed Woodness!
005 - Cavegirl (1985) - info - review - Can't say I'd watch this again. As a comedy it had no humor, as a time travel adventure it was boring, and the gratuitous female nudity wasn't all that much either.

Aha! moments: Later reading that Night of the Ghouls was sort of a sequel to Bride of the Monster. Teri Garr and Kent McCord (Adam-12) were dancers in Kissin 'Cousins.

Friday April 2nd - Working day two of five 12 hour shifts in a row. Hope to squeeze in an Elvis film here at work, and something schlocky tonight. Ended up staying up way too late watching cheese from the Too Cool for School Collection.

006 - Live a Little, Love a Little (1968) - wiki - review - Trippy!
007 - Girl Happy (1965) - wiki - review - Should have watched a Eurospy title at this number.
008 - Jocks (1986) - wiki - review - Horrid.
009 - Coach (1978) - info - review - I kissed the coach!
010 - My Tutor (1983) - wiki - review - Maybe these last two films were watched as children by current female Floridian high school teachers.

Aha! moments: 24 hours after I watched Live a Little, Love a Little, it was featured in our guess the sceenshot game here. I failed to identify it, cementing my status as the least observant person on the planet. DVDTalk and reviewer David Cornelius are in the wiki article for the incredibly bad Jocks, which has shameful appearances from Christopher Lee, Richard Roundtree, and R.G. Armstrong. Coach has the pretty much first appearance of Michael Biehn, and My Tutor was one of the first films for Crispin Glover..

Saturday April 3rd - Sleep? Who needs it?

011 - Jail Bait (1954) - wiki - review - Not Lolita-ish, but about the evil of guns instead. Hercules!
012 - The Haunted World of Edward D. Wood Jr. (1996) - Ed Wood wiki - review - Seemed quite thorough for it's running length, and not biased towards him like most documentaries.
013 - Crossroads of Laredo (1947/1995) - wildcard #1, length - info - review - The first film directed by and starring Ed Wood. The score and songs are much better than the film, which is a nice first attempt I guess, but quite bland and boring. Nice to see his beginnings though.
014 - Tickle Me (1965) - wiki - review - The lead actress from Creature from the Black Lagoon, Julie Adams, with a nice turn; but Jocelyn Lane steals the show.
015 - The House of the Devil (2009) - wiki - review - Loved it! Where do I recognize Tom Noonan from?
016 - The Naked Witch (1961) - wiki - review - Only my second or third exposure to a Something Weird release. Painful, but in a fun way. Really looking forward to the rest of my SW discs. Not much nudity really.
017 - Crypt of Dark Secrets (1976) - wiki - review - Maureen Ridley can dance for me anytime. I actually sort of enjoyed the premise and basic story here.

Aha! moments: Recognizing Hercules in Jail Bait.

Sunday April 4th - Happy Resurrection Day everyone! My co-worker suggested that we celebrate with zombie films, so I obliged.

018 - Night of the Living Dead (1968) - wiki - review - Didn't watch this until just a few years ago. I was missing out.
019 - Fangs of the Living Dead (1969) - wiki - review - Very disappointed to find that the title is a misnomer. No zombies really, more like vampires. Not completely horrible, but not nearly as good as his Blind Dead films.
020 - Night of the Living Dead (1990) - wiki - review - I thought it was pretty decent actually.
021 - Dawn of the Dead (2004) - wiki - review - On par with the original, something I rarely say about remakes.
022 - Revolt of the Zombies (1936) - wiki - review - Another misleading title, no zombies here. Fairly boring film.
023 - Apocalypse (1998) - wiki - review - First of a four (for now) part Christian film series on the end times has some fairly bad acting and 'special effects'.
024 - Revelation (1999) - wiki - review - Some decent actors make this one much more watchable.

Aha! moments: Finding Revelation to be a decent film. Reading that the eyes of the zombies in Revolt of the Zombies were Bela Lugosi's.

Monday April 5th - Darn DVD player at work broke! So much for squeezing in a movie or four and get paid to do it. Pretty tired from this stretch of work, but will try to watch 3 or 4 tonight to keep my numbers up.

025 - Tribulation (2000) - wiki - review - Gary Busey does ok as the lead, and I like Nick Mancuso's anti-christ, but overall this series is a bit too preachy. Not horrible, but not all that good either.
026 - Judgment (2001) - wiki - review - Corbin Bernsen does a decent job, but all in all I'm glad these are over.
026 - The Beautiful the Bloody and the Bare (1964) - wiki - review - Zzzz
027 - Any Body... Any Way (1968) - wiki - review - Why didn't they just beat down the old couple and run away?

Aha! moments: Mr. T!

Tuesday April 6th - Enjoying my plan of mixing things up somewhat randomly instead of just plowing through boxsets in order.

028 - Glen or Glenda? (1953) - wiki - review - What was the point of Bela Lugosi's 'narration'?
029 - The Pom Pom Girls (1976) - wiki - review - Gorgeous girls, and lots of bad examples to set for children in this teen romp.
030 - The Van (1977) - wiki - review - Our one-track-mind star is otherwise a nice kid, but needs to work on his pick-up lines.
031 - The Beach Girls (1982) - wiki - review - Total debauchery.
032 - Bloodlust! (1961) - wiki - review - I've seen this one a couple/few times now, and strangely enjoy it, perhaps it's my Brady Bunch fascination.

Aha! moments: Danny Devito in The Van.

Wednesday April 7th - First day of the Challenge where I haven't left the house. Abandoned my earlier policy and just tore thru the second Drive-In Cult Classic Collection.

033 - The Saved Hitler's Brain (1963) - wiki - review -
034 - The Madmen of Mandoras (1963) - wiki - review - Deja vu.
035 - Terrified (1963) - wiki - review -
036 - The Creeping Terror (1964) - wiki - review - Very justified appearance on the IMDB bottom 100. Love the slight segue into an educational film at a couple points.
037 - The Devil's Hand (1962) - wiki - review -
038 - The Hearse (1980) - wiki - review -
039 - Land of the Minotaur (1976) - info - review -
040 - House on Haunted Hill (1959) - wiki - review -
041 - House on Haunted Hill (1959) - wiki - review - Again, in color, with Mike Nelson commentary.

Aha! moments:

Thursday April 8th - Another day of work, another night of cheesy films.

042 - Hunk (1987) - wiki - review -
043 - My Chauffeur (1986) - wiki - review -
044 - Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a Plane (2007) - wiki - review -
045 - Malibu Beach (1978) - info - review -

Aha! moments:

Friday April 9th - Put a burrito in the toaster oven and set the timer. Timer must be broken, and Betsy Russell's cleavage distracted me, so an hour later I found a misshapen molten mass of burrito oozing ominously. Should have taken a picture before I killed it.

046 - Tomboy (1985) - wiki - review -
047 - Weekend Pass (1984) - wiki - review -
048 - Warbirds (2008) - info - review -
049 - The Deaths of Ian Stone (2007) - wiki - review -
050 - Detour (1945) - wiki - review - Despite some silly dialogue and average acting, strangely rewarding.
051 - The Zodiac (2005) - wiki - review - Didn't plan to watch this, it's too close to non-B, but I bought it used and it was scratched, so was checking it for playability and got sucked in. But then, I guess films based on serial killers fit 'exploitation' perfectly.
052 - The Zodiac (2005) - wiki - review -Again, with creator commentary. While I admit a slight fascination with serial killers, if I'm ever found on a water tower it was a set-up.
053 - Atom Age Vampire (1960) - wiki - review -
054 - The Black Cat (1966) - info - review -

Aha! moments:

Saturday April 10th - Started re-organizing my DVD collection, yet again.

055 - The Fat Black Pussy-Cat (1963) - info - review -
056 - Murder a la Mod (1968) - wiki - review -
057 - The Moving Finger (1963) - info - review -
058 - An Eye for the Girls (1966) - no wiki or info anywhere - review - An experimental nudie cutie never released apparently, barely a hint of it is on the web. Combination of stills and film, with a trying-to-be-funny narration about nude photography. No worthwhile value, but it was a feature on the disc with the last two films, and I watch everything I buy, so I endured it.
059 - The Naked Witch (1961) - wiki - review - Watched again with Larry Buchanan commentary.
060 - The Deadly Bees (1966) - wiki - review -
061 - The Skull (1965) - wiki - review -
062 - The Man Who Could Cheat Death (1959) - wiki - review -
063 - Star Trek: Of Gods and Men (2007) - wiki - review -

Aha! moments:

Sunday April 11th - Still reorganizing, I'll need about six weeks of solid work and the condo next to mine to actually finish.

064 - The Trollenberg Terror (1958) - wiki - review - MST3K version - Known as The Crawling Eye to most.
065 - Zaat (1975) - wiki - review - Called Blood Waters of Dr. Z on this MST3K release.
065 - Carnival of Souls (1962) - wiki - review -
066 - Carnival of Souls (1962) - wiki - review - Again, with Mike Nelson commentary.
067 - Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a Plane (2007) - wiki - review - Again with creator commentary.
.5 - Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a Plane (2007) - wiki - review - For perhaps the last time ever with IGN commentary.
068 - The Beatniks (1960) - wiki - review - MST3K version.

Aha! moments:

Monday April 12th - Back to work.

069 - Beach Blanket Bingo (1965) - wiki - review -
070 - How to Stuff a Wild Bikini (1965) - wiki - review -
071 - The Haunted World of Edward D. Wood Jr. (1996) - Ed Wood wiki - review -Again with filmmaker commentary.
072 - The Final Sacrifice (1990) - wiki - review - MST3K version.

Aha! moments:

Tuesday April 13th - I'm admitting partial defeat, or at least retracting a couple of my earlier plans.

I was planning on primarily watching underground and unknown films, but am getting burnt out on bad teen comedies, beach films, and Something Weird titles. So I'm going to mix things up a bit and watch more 'big' B-movies like Road House and Rocky Horror.

I'm also going to use this month to check off something from my checklist of life, and that is to finally wade through the special features on my DVDs. So I'll be watching a bunch of commentaries. I enjoy those as much as the films much of the time.

Partial reason for both changes is that I'm way ahead of schedule, burning through my pile of eligible titles, so I need to slow down a bit and expand my choices before I run out.

073 - Shinjuku Triad Society (1995) - wiki - review - My first Miike. Well done, but I prefer films where I can identify with or care about at least one of the principal characters.
074 - Shinjuku Triad Society (1995) - wiki - review - Again with film historian commentary.
075 - Road House (1989) - wiki - review -
076 - Road House (1989) - wiki - review - Again with director commentary and trivia track.
077 - Road House (1989) - wiki - review - Again with Clerks' Smith/Mosier commentary and trivia track. Only a half a point here, but combined with an earlier half to get back to whole numbers.

Re: First Annual B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-in Movie Challenge ***Lists Go Here***

April 1

April 2

April 3
1. Rabid Dogs
-Awesome way to start off the challenge. I've had this for a while, but never got around to watching it until now. I like a lot of Bava movies, but this may be his best. The last half-hour is insane. Very cool twist ending.
2. I Drink Your Blood
-Kind of like that Sandra Bullock movie where Sandra Bullock adopts that football player? Except this movie has Satan-worshipping hippies that eat meat pies injected with rabid dog's blood. So, you know, WAY more inspirational.
3. Let the Right One In
-This movie breaks my heart. I like it more each time I see it.

April 4
4. All the Colors of the Dark
-Excellent giallo, really liked this one. Bonus points for a plot that revolves around a Satan-worshipping cult. Edwige Fenech is freakishly beautiful. I have yet to see a Sergio Martino flick that I don't like, and this may be one of his best.

April 5
5. The New York Ripper
-Not my favorite Fulci, but I gain more respect for it the more I see it. Nice to revisit it on Blu-Ray. I always forget how it ends, so each time I see it, I totally fall for the fake-out ending.
6. Four Times That Night
-Bava's Rashomon-style sex comedy. Not great but pretty fun. The lead actress, Daniela Giordano, is stunning.

April 6
7. Ong Bak 2
-Had read a lot of mixed to negative reviews on this one, but I really enjoyed it. Some amazing fight sequences. Looking forward to the sequel.

April 7

April 8
8. Boccaccio '70
-Four short films by De Sica, Fellini, Monicelli and Visconti. Not exactly a B-movie, but it was (a) released by No Shame and (b) condemned by the Legion of Decency, so I'm counting it. It's not the best work by any of the directors, but they're not exactly slumming it either. Some really nice stuff. Fellini's first color film, if I'm not mistaken. Also, Sophia Loren....

April 9

April 10
9. Zatoichi's Cane Sword
-I love me some Zatoichi. This one was pretty slow in the first hour or so, but the last half-hour is terrific.
10. Shogun Assassin 3: Slashing Blades of Carnage
-This is the re-dubbed version of Lone Wolf 4. It's good, but I wasn't crazy about a lot of the voices. Also, if I recall, the first Shogun Assassin had a different score than the Lone Wolf movies. I kind of wish they had taken *more* liberties with the material, instead of just dubbing new voices.
11. Hausu
-Saw this in the theater. Very strange, dreamlike Japanese horror movie from the '70s. Apparently it was based on the dreams of the director's 11-year-old daughter. Definitely something I would like to re-visit once it hits disc. Apparently, Criterion is going to release it later this year.

April 11
12. Prince of Darkness
-I had seen this a few times before but it never really clicked with me. A friend of mine had given me an extra copy that he had so I decided to give it one more shot. Really glad I did. It's far from a perfect film, but there's a lot of interesting concepts, as well as some amazing visuals.

April 12

April 13
13. Seven Blood Stained Orchids
-Umberto Lenzi has never been one of my favorite directors, but he does a great job with this one. I am a sucker for any giallo, and this one is actually quite good.

April 14

April 15

April 16
14. King Kong vs. Godzilla
-My friend invited me over for some pizza and Godzilla movies. Started with this one, which I remember watching on TV when I was a kid. It's pretty solid, and is paced a lot better than some other Godzilla flicks I've seen, with some good monster action throughout. The Kong suit looks pretty bad though, which kind of added to the fun.
15. Godzilla: Final Wars
-The second half of our Godzilla double feature. Pretty silly but also kinda awesome at the same time. The last hour is non-stop monster action. I was super tired at this point, but managed to stay awake for the whole movie.

April 17
16. Zatoichi Challenged
-Another Zatoichi. Haven't had a lot of time to watch movies this week, so I had to watch this in three or four sittings. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish all of my unwatched Zatoichi flicks by the time the challenge ends. I think I have three or four to go.

April 18
17. 7 Grand Masters
-Kung fu movies are not my area of expertise, but of the few that I've seen, this is one of the best. Really awesome tournament style flick, with some over the top, hilariously awesome fight scenes. Very fun stuff.

April 19

April 20

April 21
18. Chocolate (2008)
-Like Rain Man, except instead of being a genius at math, she's a genius at kneeing people in the face.

April 22

April 23

April 24
19. Zatoichi and the Fugitives
-More Zatoichi. This one rocked. He goes on this mad killing rampage at the end, which, I guess is like a lot of Zatoichi flicks, but this one was just a little extra balls to the wall.
20. The Ghost Ship (1943)
-I picked up the Val Lewton set recently. Had seen a couple of his flicks, but this one was new to me. It was all right, not great.
21. The 7th Victim
-This one, on the other hand, was terrific. The plot revolves around a Satanic cult and a young girl who is trying to find her suicidal sister. It's completely fucked up and deals with themes and issues that are not typical of movies from this time period. The ending was completely unexpected.

April 25
22. Isle of the Dead

April 26

April 27
23. I Walked with a Zombie

April 28

April 29
24. Bedlam
25. The House of the Devil

April 30
26. Shadows in the Dark - The Val Lewton Legacy
27. Foxy Brown

May 1
28. Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky
29. Samaritan Zatoichi
30. Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman (1989)

Re: First Annual B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-in Movie Challenge ***Lists Go Here***

I was really looking forward to this and ended up with so much going on that I didn't get to watch anything for the challenge. Hopefully this takes place again next year and I can get in some really good (bad) movie watching.

asianxcore's B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-In Challenge List

April 1st:

1. Cannibal Apocalypse (1980): This film should have been a little more fun than it actually was considering some of the people and things involved. John Saxon? Check. Cannibals? Check. Chunks of gore? Check. Hilarious action scenes? Check. Problem is the pacing hurts this film and makes it seem much longer than it is. Though even I have to give a little credit to this odd film that makes titty-biting seem absolutely normal.

April 3rd:

2. August Underground's Penance (2007):
I never thought I would be bored by any of the films in the August Underground Trilogy, but the third and final film takes the cake. Jerami Cruise's FX work is the real star here (and has always been), but it takes the film almost 45 minutes to setup anything remotely interesting. The series has always been plagued with completely boring and random transition set-pieces between gore effects, but they seem more pronounced here. Also a notable change is the use of HD cameras, taking away the grime and gritty nature of the previous films. The first two films got under my skin, but the final part in this trilogy almost put me to bed.

April 4th:

3. Revenge Of The Ninja (1983): Classic tale of Ninja Revenge with all of it's awesome fury and unfortunately massive hilarity. Sho Kosugi is awesome as our hero in this and surprisingly the villain is quite good. Lots of Ninja Action, great death scenes, hilarious dialogue and random henchman. Try not to laugh when you see the Native American henchman who wields hatchets or the "Cowboy" ex-con. Finale is also a solid use of the final 15-30 minutes of the film.

April 5th:

4. Stanley (1972): Though it sometimes comes off as completely random, this semi "Eco-Terror" film featuring Chris Robinson as Tim Ochopee is at least fun during it's second act. This film is chock-full of hilarious dialogue, great death scenes (some which nightmares are made of), Racial Slurs, terrible music and of course....Snakes! Chris Robinson seems to be the only actor in the film who takes his role seriously and it shows. His transformation to the utterly crazy and creepy Tim Ochopee we see by the end of the film, is worth the price of admission. The film is overly long and it does take a while for anything to get going. Couldn't stop laughing when the "psycho" specialized henchman showed up. Too funny!

April 6th:

5. Zombi 3 (1988): This film should have been titled Filipino Zombie-Ninja Attack. Dialogue is constantly over the top and hilarious. Listen to the dialogue that goes on about "Death One" throughout the film. Luckily, the death scenes as well as our Ninja-Like Zombies, make this film just a little bit more fun than being kicked in the face. Two death scenes in particular will have you rolling over with laughter. Also worth noting is that Zombies can talk, hide themselves in piles of Hay and can tread through water pretty quick with utter determination.

April 20th:

6. Murder Collection Vol. 1 (2009):
What essentially is Toe Tag Pictures' version of the Mondo film, this collection unfortunately has only a couple good scenes and the rest are throwaways. The film is a collection of murders, taken from various "sources" such as security cameras and home video. For every solid entry in the collection (Autopsy, Webcam Murder, Senator's Daughter Kidnapping), there are a flood of average or boring scenes. Jerami Cruise's FX work is still king here, but unfortunately many of the scenes in the collection do not feature them. This leaves any scene without his FX work in the spotlight, extremely forgettable.

7. Black Dynamite (2009):
I can't say anything about this film that hasn't already been said on various forums and/or message boards. Easily one of the most quotable films of 2009. The film is extremely hilarious and well-casted. You can tell a lot of love went into this film. Call it what you will, a parody/tribute, but the film actually stands on it's own pretty well and has high replay value. Seriously, I dare you to try not to laugh during any part of the film. KUNG-FU TREACHERY!

8. Cannibal (2006): Based on a true story about a German Cannibal and his willing victim, this little slice of grotesque cinema lives up to it's reputation. The film is oddly enough very artsy, but at the same time able to deliver an immense cloud of Claustrophobia and dread. This has much to do with the film's cinematography. Many shots are out of focus, framed oddly or filled with grit. The film, surprisingly, offers more than just it's infamous scene. If anything, everything that happens after that scene is more disturbing than that single moment. My only gripe is that Unearthed's release of the film seems to have been dubbed and voices sound silly at times. Solid piece of Exploitation Cinema, but not recommend for those looking for giggles, smiles and good times.

April 28th:

9. Fair Game (1986): You have to hand it to the Aussie's. Churning out Exploitation/B-Movies but making them bigger, faster and louder. Not much to say about this film, which sports a pretty straight forward and thin script. 3 guys decide it's a good idea to mess with our heroine (Cassandra Delaney) and pretty much go out of their way to make her days miserable. Cue some bad decisions on our heroine's part and thus comes the Cat-and-Mouse/Revenge Thriller this film pretty much is. Stunts are actually pretty neat, but what really takes the cake is most likely what this film is known for. Topless Cassandra Delaney being tied to the front of the hoodlum's truck (which is a character within itself) and driven around like some crazy hood ornament. That entire scene, from start to finish, is bathed in Exploitation and is a good snap of what Exploitation films are all about. The final meeting between both sides is both exciting, ridiculous and extremely entertaining all at the same time.

Re: First Annual B-Movie/Exploitation/Drive-in Movie Challenge ***Lists Go Here***

Thursday - April 1

1. Reform School Girls (1986) - **** (DVD - 8:00 pm)
Comments : "So Young, So Bad, So What?!" Leave no cliche undone in this one - and it's all the better for it. Wendy O. Williams is a bit too into this trashy little movie, but that's not to say she's a good actress - and just another reason to love this one.
Favorite Quote: "You're just a shit stain on the panties of life!"

2. Female Trouble (1973) - **** (DVD - 10:00 pm)
Comments : "Nice Girls Don't Wear Cha-Cha Heels" Not quite as outrageous as Pink Flamingos, but pretty darn close! Single mother Dawn Davenport turns to a life of crime and develops a twisted sense of fame as a result. All of John Waters usual suspects in this one - along with rape, shit stained underwear, child birth, incest, murder, mutilation, and jump rope destruction.
Favorite Quote: "I wouldn't suck your lousy dick if I was suffocating and there was oxygen in your balls!"

3. Rogue (2007) - **** (DVD - 11:30 pm)
Comments : "How Fast Can You Swim?" An Australian crocodile expedition gets stranded in the territory of an extremely aggressive crocodile. Not anything like what I was expecting (low-grade Sci-Fi Channel), this actually was a pretty impressive little movie. Granted, most of the kills are done off-screen, but the actual crocodile is not a cheesy CGI effect that is constantly repeated. Some good actors show up in this one and it moves pretty quick.
Favorite Quote: "I got the brochure, but it didn't say anything about assholes."

Friday - April 2

4. Seventh Moon (2007) - ** (DVD - 3:30 pm)
Comments : "The Gates of Hell Are Open" A couple on their honeymoon in China get lost in the country during the superstitious observance of the dead. WAY too much shaky cam (gets old very fast) and apparently nobody on this production likes lights of any kind. Some decent moments but not enough to make this very good.
Favorite Quote: "What about the naked dude?"

5. Triloquist (2008) - * (DVD - 9:30 pm)
Comments : "One's a Devil, The Other is No Dummy" A brother and sister and ventriloquist dummy go on a violent road trip to Vegas. Failed as horror, failed as comedy, just overall annoying at times. The dummy gets a few funny lines, but it really did nothing for me at all.
Favorite Quote: "I love you, and your tits are beautiful."

Saturday - April 3

6. Vice Squad (1982) - **** (DVD - 1:00 pm)
Comments : "On the Street, the Real Trick is Staying Alive" A psychotic pimp tracks down the prostitute that tried to set him up with the vice squad in pursuit. Sleazy movie was an HBO staple growing up - and now I understand why my parents wouldn't let me watch it (always having to sneak around to see it!). More crude than graphic but alot of fun anyway.
Favorite Quote: (in reference to a golden shower) "I got a 6-pack and $100." "And you just got a date with Princess Running-Water!"

7. Surveillance (2005) - ** (DVD - 3:00 pm)
Comments : "No Bad Deed Goes Unpunished" A tightly wound mall security guard (!) uses blackmail and deceipt to cover up his real work ethic. Armand Assante has an over-the-top delivery of lines in this ludicrous thriller. Interesting idea with so many plot holes and gaffes that start to overshadow the entire production. Still, strangely entertaining on a low-expectation scale.
Favorite Quote: "Gonna give me a run for my money, college boy? Cause I don't have any!"

8. Mother of Tears (2007) - **** (DVD - 5:45 pm)
Comments : "What you see does not exist. What you cannot see is truth." A girl searches to understand her connection to the Mother of Tears after a buried urn is uncovered and unleashes her power. Those crazy Italians are unleashing hell on earth - but it's alot of fun in Argento's completion of the 3 Mothers saga. Much bloodier than I expected and a few scenes that just aren't right, no matter what!
Favorite Quote: "Who wants to eat the girl?"

9. The Midnight Meat Train (2008) - **** (DVD - 9:00 pm)
Comments : "The most terrifying ride you'll ever take" A photographer uncovers a series of nasty murders taking place on a subway train. Plenty of gore in this one and some decent suspense as well. Didn't really need the ending that it took, but not necessarily a bad way to go. Good acting and excellent gore effects keep this one moving along.
Favorite Quote: "Step away from the meat!"

10. D-Tox (Eye See You) (2002) - ** (DVD - 11:30 pm)
Comments : "Survival is a Killer" FBI agent goes to rehab after dealing with a serial killer that has been targeting him personally. Skipped theatrical run and went straight to home video, this one starts out pretty good but runs out of steam by the midway mark. Lots of familiar faces but could have used a better script. Still, not bad, but just lacking.
Favorite Quote: "Run Jenny Run... I'm coming to cut your fucking heart out."

Sunday - April 4

11. Feed (2005) - **** (DVD - 1:00 pm)
Comments : "Can You Stomach It?" Australian cop discovers a website where a sociopath is using obese women for his gratification. Ok, this was pretty sick. The actors do a great job, especially Alex O'Loughlin in this nasty little movie. Takes a weird turn towards the end, but kind of satisfying for the story. Still, made me lose my appetite watching this one!
Favorite Quote: "Do I look dead to you, pussy boy?"

12. Hard (1998) - **** (DVD - 3:00 pm)
Comments : "A cop with a secret. A killer who knows it. The game is on." A closeted rookie detective is taunted by a gay serial killer that is picking off young boys in Los Angeles. When it sticks to one issue, it's a pretty good movie. But too many cliches are thrown in for some reason. Tries to be a gay version of 'Seven' and a gayer version of 'Cruising' with better results than expected. Graphic in gore, nudity and sex in the unrated cut.
Favorite Quote: "How far you headed?" "I'n going all the way." "That's what I like to hear!"

13. The House of the Devil (2009) - **** (DVD - 6:00 pm)
Comments : "Talk on the phone. Finish your homework. Watch T.V. DIE!" A college student accepts a babysitting job in a country house from a strange couple. Great throwback to the 80's horror films with lots of nice little touches. Pacing could have been tighter, although that is somewhat the point, I guess.
Favorite Quote: "You aren't the babysitter?"

14. 13: Game of Death (2006) - **** (DVD - 8:30 pm)
Comments : "13 Challenges. $100 Million. How Far Would You Go?" A down-on-his-luck guy begins a game of progressively worse challenges for money. Kept my interest, although some of the dubbed lines are ludicrously bad! As for the challenges - I'd have quit at number 5!!
Favorite Quote: "AHHHH!! Zombie!! Eeeeeeee!"
